A Look At Every Iteration Of The Ninja Turtles Coming To Magic — Raphael

With prerelease weekend for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the rear-view mirror, we’re only four days away from the set making its full release. Raphael is often considered the brash or most aggressive turtle on the team. Fittingly, Raphael appears in Magic as a red creature, the MTG color most known for aggression. Raphael can be found in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as a Legendary Creature in all four rarities.

Common

Raphael’s single common in the set reminds us that he is a gym-bro through and through. Raphael, Tough Turtle costs 1R to cast and is a 1/3. His Alliance triggered ability reads, “Alliance — Whenever another creature you control enters, Raphael deals 1 damage to target opponent.”

Uncommon

As an uncommon, Raphael reminds us that he is more than just strong, but also has a brazen streak. Raphael, Most Attitude costs 3R to cast and is a 4/3 with menace. He has two triggered abilities. His Alliance ability reads, “Alliance — Whenever another creature you control enters, you may exile the top card of your library.” Then his second ability reads, “Whenever Raphael attacks, until the end of turn, you may play a card exiled with Raphael.”

Rare

Raphael was printed five times as a rare in Magic: The Gathering. Most of these are team-ups with other characters in the series including his friend and fellow loose cannon, Casey Jones. The Raphael cards printed in rare are:

  • Casey & Raph, Hotheads
    • 4R to cast
    • Power and Toughness of 4/4
    • has "When Casey & Raph enter, choose one or both. Each mode must target a different player."
      • Target player exiles the top card of their library. Until that player’s next end step, they may play that card without paying its mana cost.
      • Target player creates two Treasure tokens.
  • Don & Raph, Hard Science
    • 1(U/R)(U/R) to cast
    • 2/4 with menace
    • has "Whenever Don & Raph attack, the next noncreature spell you cast this turn has affinity for artifacts. (It costs 1 less to cast for each artifact you control.)
  • Raphael, The Nightwatcher

  • Raph & Mikey, Troublemakers
    • 5(R/G)(R/G) to cast
    • 7/7 with trample and haste
    • has "Whenever Raph & Mikey attack, reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a creature card. Put that card onto the battlefield tapped and attacking and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order."
