If you’ve spent any amount of time in Magic: The Gathering circles, you’ve probably heard of Tolarian Community College and The Professor. Debuting in August 2013, Brian Lewis — The Professor, has been reviewing all things Magic related and providing helpful guides to new players for over a decade. He boasts over a million followers on YouTube where he has approximately 2,000 videos.
Trans Lifeline is an organization that started shortly after the Trans Day of Remembrance in 2014 initially as a hotline to assist trans people looking for support in response to a growing number of suicides among trans individuals. In 2023, The Professor began an annual fundraising drive to support Trans Lifeline using his Bluesky and X accounts to promote his efforts. In his first three years, The Professor raised over $1.2 million, raising nearly $600,000 in 2025 alone.
The time is upon us for the 2026 TCC Trans Lifeline fundraiser. The goal set for this year is $525,000. As of this writing just over $482,000 has already been donated through approximately 15,000 donations. There is still 24 hours to go and it seems inevitable that this year’s goal will be completely shattered.
Additionally, content creators and others in the Magic: The Gathering community have been showing up for The Professor by donating products for him to use as giveaways. The Professor has been giving away full Collector Booster Boxes and more using donations made in $4.00 increments as the giveaway entry. The community has been making sure that he isn’t short on any product. While some may argue that a desire to impact the lives of trans individuals should be the motivation for donating, it’s nonetheless a great community effort that so many people and organizations have been both donating products and money. Crossing the $450,000 threshold in just the first two days is not a small thing.
