Ninja Turtles may be known for hiding in the New York City sewers but it turns out they may also be hiding in your Lorwyn Eclipsed prerelease kit. Prerelease events started on Friday, the 16th but many players quickly realized that their foil promos were actually cards from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set that releases in March. This caused over 30 cards to be accidentally leaked ahead of schedule during the Lorwyn Eclipsed prerelease.
Many players took to Reddit and social media to post images of their incorrect promos. The response from other players has been mixed with some excited to have a secret card not yet seen in any official media and others upset because they were more interested in getting a promo from Lorwyn Eclipsed.
Lorwyn Eclipsed was already making waves at prerelease by not date-stamping the prerelease promos as they’ve done since 1997. While it’s unlikely that the lack of a stamp had any correlation to the mix-up with these promo cards, it definitely didn’t go unnoticed.
Wizards of the Coast for their part put out a message confirming that promo cards from the wrong set were included in some Lorwyn Eclipsed prerelease kits. According to their most recent post on X, “...if possible, stores should replace these promos with the appropriate ECL promos from other prerelease kits. If stores do not have enough available, players can play with the incorrect cards. Stores are also encouraged to communicate with their WPN representatives for more information.”
Ninja Turtles isn’t set to come out until March, and the 30+ cards that were posted online were not previously previewed by Wizards. Lorwyn Eclipsed, on the other hand, is releasing later this week on January 23rd.
