The Jim Henson Company is Teaming Up With Magic

Few institutions had as big an impact on pop culture in the ‘80s as The Jim Henson Company.  From Fraggle Rock and Sesame Street to Labyrinth and Dark Crystal, Jim Henson left an indelible mark on an entire generation.  Now, with Lorwyn Eclipsed right around the corner, The Jim Henson Company is helping bring the iconic plane to life with the set’s trailer, a music video featuring all new puppets pulled straight out of Lorwyn-Shadowmoor.

As first reported by Corey Plante at Polygon, The Jim Henson Company created the short film in celebration of Magic’s return to Lorwyn.  Brian Henson, the chairman of The Jim Henson Company and son of the legendary puppeteer, said about the short film “We are a world-building company. The worlds of Lorwyn and Shadowmoor are relatives to Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal. Working inside fantasy worlds is our favorite place to be.”

The video, which features Squen from Lorwyn and Cragg from Shadowmoor, is about three and a half minutes — just enough time for a chorus of puppets to sing about the duality of their world.  The comments at the time of writing this are overwhelmingly positive with many calling for more collaborations and being genuinely surprised at how incredible the video is.

The art director for Lorwyn Eclipsed said that the idea started as a joke in comments saying “Early in development, we always ask ourselves, ‘What’s the dream trailer? I joked about the Henson Company being that dream. I never actually thought it would happen.”

The Lorwyn Eclipsed debut is also happening today on YouTube and Twitch. Spoiler season kicks into gear and it won’t be long before the full set is revealed. Lorwyn Eclipsed will be released on January 23rd.
