What if we get another sweet generic land that fits everything?
Snowy Winter's Plaza
Snow Land - Gate

May 20, 2019I'm dead. This card is way better than FoN. Looks like a Force Cycle is going to bring some interesting life to Modern for awhile.Posted in: The Rumor Mill
I am interested in the Red one as it seems like it could be the most breaking and cause for Force of Negation to be more necessary.
May 20, 2019They're not going to get sued for printing Snow Duals. I'm sure you're imagining Snow-Covered Badlands, but there are SO many more options. Could they not just be snow covered shocks? Boom done. What if they were snow check lands? Snow Fast lands?Posted in: Modern
I know many are saying "duals" as a straight up term, but that's because they could be anything.
May 20, 2019I'm fairly certain that if they print Snow Duals the Flying Draw Snake is better than Strix. Needing 3 other snow permanents gives it Deathtouch the same time that Strix would have it but you get to play this a turn earlier and while holding up mana.Posted in: Modern

While this looks like a cash grab, I think this is a wonderful option for budget players. I hope this puts a dent in Scalding Tarn and the like. This is a good nod to trying to spread out some of the value in the fetches. This will probably absorb a ton of value right off the bat though, it'll be interesting to see how this affects prices.
Edit: I think I am realizing that this only fetches basics... Please ignore everything.
May 19, 2019Well that was fast... Probably precludes Counterspell. I'm conflicted, but this is very likely just fine if not hardly playable. Not hitting creatures is a real issue. I'm speculating that Prohibit sees more play than the FoNz in the current meta.Posted in: Modern
I'm on my backup prayer now; unconditional 2cmc Black creature exile.
May 19, 2019For those keeping score on Counterspell (me), sets dating back to Shadows over Innistrad all have either 3 or 4 counters except for two that had 2 and 5.Posted in: Modern
I'm excited for Prohibit though, certainly a nice addition.
May 19, 2019I’m pretty sure if the BAB was some awesome highly relevant card to modern we would all bemoan the idea of having to figure out how to afford it. And if this was the only printing it would only be available in foil.Posted in: Modern Archives
Flusterstorm not being highly relevant to Modern makes it a great BAB, in my opinion. I hope this was chosen exactly for this reason and I hope that it shows how the community groaned over Nexus of Fate being a BAB.
... Still just hope though.

Ktk's thoughts were interesting. I'm much more okay with something like Daze, so a Daze that can be cast T0 is probably(?) fine for me. I suppose I'm just afraid of what FoW would signal is okay to be in the format, but I don't think Daze is strong enough to send that same signal. I struggle with trying to group evaluate hypothetical cards though, it's such a sliding scale.Quote from Bearscape »<Snip/>
Maybe I am overthinking FoW... Maybe not. At this point we're so close to spoilers that it's almost fruitless to have a back and forth about it because we might as well just wait a few days and see what they give us.
I just doubt they give us both FoW and Counterspell in the same set.

Sigh... For real? I just have no faith in their analysis if they're concerned about getting Lava Spike countered for UU compared to allowing control to tap out and still be "safe".Quote from Bearscape »At the same time, they brought out a video about the top 5 cards NOT to include in Horizons, with #1 being Counterspell
I disagree with them on Counterspell, but I like them exploring cards that are actually worth discussing (compared to that CFB article a while ago discussing why Sneak Attack would be bad for Modern - no *****). FoW is definitely the most controversial inclusion in the Horizons discussion and although I don't see it happen I also don't think FoW would be so bad for Modern.
On a totally separate note.
What is your take on FoW?
Personally, I think it's sort of silly to need a T0 counter in a T4 format. I also think it's sort of silly to need a free counter before we even attempt a 2cmc one. I can get the difference between using FoW vs fair and unfair decks; I've borrowed probably just under enough legacy decks to really grasp the concept fully, but I think I can grapple with it a bit.
May 13, 2019I really feel like they put Force of Will on that list just to make the video an edgy discussion topic. It's just frustrating to see the desire for a free counterspell when we don't even have actual Counterspell yet and the chance of them allowing both Force and Counterspell in at the same time seems abysmal to me.Posted in: Modern
But my bias is pretty clear too, so take that as you will.

Feb 4, 2014Acidic Slime all the way!! He's super versatile and is always a sound play. Stops fatties, hoses Artifacts and Enchantments, can even get beats if you're ramping into him! There is rarely a time I do not want to Slime someone!Posted in: Announcements
I fell in love with this card during the SOM/INN Standard, I played the mono-Green Wolf Run Ramp deck; I used x4 Beast Within, x4 Acidic Slime, and x4 Green Sun's Zenith to occasionally play full on Land Destruction in addition to the wildly powerful monsters I would windmill-slam into play! Throwing +10/+0 and Trample on a Slime with the Wolf Run was often a scoop from my opponent as well. What a fun standard!
My only regret is never having a Mimic Vat.
Greatest deck achievement, no joke, Primordial Hydra and Fling; I used the Flings in the sideboard to get rid of the Mirran Crusaders that began to plague me, they also happened to be a potential 20 damage to the face in response to removal.
With Red/Green seeing play again, I am in high hopes for a reprint of the Slime.
Feb 13, 2012Got this deck to a new meta and just got totally pooped on.Posted in: Arkmer Blog
It's really good against control, but I moved into a heavier aggro meta. Now it is bad bad bad. I'll be putting this away for awhile... maybe forever since I want to off load my Titans.
Jan 5, 2012First change: -2 Slagstorm -1 Grave Titan, +2 Sever the Bloodline +1 Inferno Titan.Posted in: Arkmer Blog
Reason: Solar Flare has been really fun to play against because the threat to answer count has been so close it's palpable, ha, as much as I love playing those games I'd like to win them. Sever, I feel is more relevant than Surgical Extraction or Nihil Spellbomb because I'll get two shots at the removal and they can table their threat base (look and feel like they are winning). Sever can be forgotten in the yard, hopefully not by me, and be a surprise or even prevent them from being as aggressive as they could be.
In other matchups it's still solid removal if not better. Not a sweeper which makes me a little sad, but as is common in magic "different uses and weaknesses".
Dec 29, 2011Birds have been nice, but Control won't have killed me and I can afford the tempo loss against mid-range because I can trade all day. Aggro is where the birds would matter and the players in my area like to kill them; also, apart from Crusaders my mana drops are on 2, 4 and 6 so the ramp lays out in a way that birds are irrelevant.Posted in: Arkmer Blog
To be honest I just threw Titans in until I couldn't cut any more things so their numbers are flexible. I'll try a few with Inferno, he does have the whole "I kill Mirran Crusader" thing going on.
