The End of an Era

The new Bob is good in Mono Black Devotion.

Against midrange/control decks unless they kill it, it will just continue to gain advantage.

Against aggro decks, it simply trades off with an early drop.

Perhaps an aggro Rakdos Deck can take advantage of it such as the Mogis Marauder builds.

Hmmm? A post that garners 1000s of likes, an outcry of people threatening to uninstall MTGO, and leads a week of complete discussion from facebook, to website articles, to tweets, etc. Where was all of this in the previous PTQ & MOCs Crashes, which have occurred all in the past 4 months? Look at the response made by Turian, they apologized immensely and said it is not tolerable, so each time it crashed prior it was tolerable? You keep believing Kibler's post had no effect on the immediate shut down of Scheduled Events.

You want to take away PTQs fine. You want to take off the MOCs, fine. But you took away everything. Kibler was the catalyst to all of this. November 4, 2013 an article was posted on the upcoming MOCs Year. Would they make such an announcement, if they had plans for shutdown? I understand Kibler is a good looking guy, but good god I didn't know he was so delicious, because you guys are riding him like it is nobodies business.

Kibler makes a post about GPs being a waste of money, WOTC changes GP structure promptly. He makes a post about MTGO being a complete waste and should be uninstalled. He clearly believed WOTC would not respond to such a bold remark. So tnx again buddy.

Kibler is to blame for this. Why? Last week, they posted the schedule for next year's MOCS with all the info on dates and FAQs. So there was never any intention for a shutdown in the near future if you have plans to run the MOCS Series. Then poor Kibler writes his article. I commented on his article that there would be backlash from it saying as a figure head for MTG, SCG & CFB, and Solforge you are threat that must be answered. He can gain easily gain a following, which will hurt business and maybe have people transition to his game or Hearthstone. He even posts that MTGO is simply a means to play and practice. For some of us, this is our only time to play competitive MTG. He does not care about the tix, the promos, the packs etc. This is something a MTGO player cares about. His article caused a decision by WOTC that affects me the MTGO player, not Kibler. But conveniently, Mr Kibler deletes my post an hour after posting. Do we need a better more stable program? Most definitely. However, I rather have a shoddy program that I can grind with not too many issues than no events to play at all. I do love draft, but I also know draft is a one way trip to MTGO broke. I don't play IRL, nor ever plan to play IRL because quite frankly I am a competitor. I don't play MTG for fun, I play for the challenge. An FNM is not place and as a former YGO player I simply don't really like MTG players. I have more important things in life for me to travel the world for MTG. MTGO was my way to enjoy this game outside from work, school, working out, and living life. I can wake up, make breakfast, take a shower, and play a daily all at the same time. I can draft 20 straight times then win a PE and get my tix right back. I just sold all my Standard cards, stocked up on tix, and Booster packs, since that will be the only thing maintaining value. Tix will be worth less in real life, but I don't plan on selling them. I will simply start speculating on cards once I feel MTGO is almost finished the lock down.

So from all of the MTGO Grinders or MTGO Professionals, thank you Kibler for taking away our MTG. I really hope you go 0-2 drop this weekend, and that is me being nice about him receiving bad luck (FYI I'm a Yugioh player and you know the horror stories that happen @ all YGO tournaments.). I never hated you man hell you are one of the few MTG players I would want to chill with, but when you post something that will clearly draw WOTC's attentions, because obviously you have never done that before, and don't even consider for once the possible ramifications, you can go eat my *insert whatever you please* Smile

Mono Black to me seems to be the best deck. Removal, Thoughtseize, good creatures, and the color with the most Devotion support, pretty much a tier 1 deck in Block.

Firedrinker Satyr is amazing. This is RDW not Big Red, you need 1 drops. I don't mind paying 4 mana to trade with a Smiter who usually would just make us pass the turn. The life loss is so minimal on this guy. Sure in the mirror, it "can" be detrimental. I will have an advantage versus other RDW mirrors by dealing 2-4 damage and trading with their creatures if they choose not to play the Satyr. Young Pyromancer seems ehhh to me. Fanatic really changed the deck's construction and it is more about the creatures & the devotion. Firefist Striker also takes a spot in the main over the Pyromancer. The deck is still as fast as it was last format, while most other decks got slower. Once our opponent has stabilized, Fanatic takes them over the top. Pyromancer does not promote aggression rather it does not mind playing a mid game. Pyromancer is fine in a Big Red Build with the Dragon and Orge Battledrivers, not RDW.

This deck is so stupid and Fanatic of Mogis is such a dumb Magic card. I casually get 2nd in Yesterday's MTGO PE Event. Fanatic of Mogis destroys board stalls aka I topdecked it once and won an unwinnable game state or I just got into a board stall against the mirror until I got enough Devotion to play the Fanatic. This deck completely makes 3 color decks irrelevant, there are too many coming to play tapped lands in the format and the shocklands are welcomed to this deck. The only deck I lost to twice once in Swiss and Finals was a Midrange Boros List. Anger of the Gods, Chain to the Rock, Warleader's Helix, Boros Reckoner, Magma Jet, and Mizzium Mortars are problematic. His deck was way too suited for RDW, but if that becomes the norm, RDW will lose its footing in the meta. However, the Big Boros deck seems completely terrible against any Control or Midrange deck.

The format just started, he will see play. The guy wins games by itself. Just wait until after States, the Pro Tour, and more SCG Opens.

The first week revealed to me the new 3 mana planeswalker is a card. That most good players ran decks they were comfortable with or the obvious good deck. I think Reid duke, Owen and other pro tour players simply wanted to get a feel of mono red strength in the new format. I doubt they will run anything close to their 75 at Dublin. I would wait until Mtgo gets theroes and see what is winning. Pros and grinders will be playing all day and the format will evolve on mtgo.

When I say grinders are spoiled, I mean we can play Limited whenever we want for free. Some people pay $12-14 to draft an 8-4. I can play 20 8-4's a day for a week with just my excess stuff. Limited is extremely fun and addicting, but imagine not having a collection on MTGO, you got to spend a ton of money to play a 1/4 of the 8-4's I do per week.

I think you approached the deck wrong. A deck utilizing reverent hunter should play 4 witchstalker. Helps devotion and hard to disrupt. A deck like that has 0 appeal to me personally. That is why I think the pro blue hydra is bad. It needs a lot of excess mana to be relevant and if that's the case you are in winning position likely. I like it post board however. I think people are trying to be cute. Just run good cards and any excess mana can be used to cast garruk or activate polukranos. Pinging each of your opponents creatures makes the attack step favorable with all our beatsticks. I'll be honest, I have done 0 testing, but I'm just making assumptions based on my experience with creature aggro decks.

To the grinder who loves ev, why are you playing sealed that isn't a PE? I never play sealed DE only PE. I don't care about the change, I never played release events. I wait until it is the prize for DEs to play in 8-4s. I may actually play this since its cheaper. Sealed is a hit or miss at the start of the format and the lower price is appealing to someone who needs time to master a limited format. I know this change is a bad precedent, but you forgot release or limited queues are filled with casuals. We grinders live in scheduled events and this change isn't for us. What grinder buys tix from the store? If I played casually, I wouldn't mind dropping 60 to play 3 sealed instead of 72. For grinders, we are spoiled, we play limited for free whenever we want. Think about the guy who plays only once or twice a week at his store. They just want to play some MTG, so let them.

I used to believe devotion mattered, but the deck should just be playing good cards plus nylea. She is just a 6 6 creature. Her ability isn't that great, just more value. I've gone to 1 copy. The gods IMO are just added value, only the red and black one would I consider 2 copies. Kalonian hydra or overwhelming board wins games, nylea is just added value or win more. Far/away, doom blade, or lightning strike can easily disrupt devotion. The devotion is fairly easy to attain in mono green beats hence the inclusion, but any midrange deck can easily get rid of it if they wanted to.

This card seems great in esper. Find supreme verdict, find lands, find revelation, or put garbage cards to the bottom. The mana currently is pretty bad for any control deck, so having a card that involves low color commitment and improves your decks consistency seems fantastic. Any heavy black deck should just run underworld connections, it is the more game breaking draw spell. Comparing the two is just wrong though, they perform two different functions. Underworld is like a planeswalker that must be addressed or your opponent gains way too much advantage. Read the bones is a hand sculptor

  • posted a message on Purphoros, Overrated?
Purphoros is a good card, if you say its broken then you are overrating it. Purphoros allows red players to hold back creatures instead of dumping their whole hand. If I have purphoros in play,I'll likely hold onto ash zealot in hand and keep up the new searing spear so I can get back Chandra phoenix in the event I lose my board. It give RDW longevity unlike the current RDW. If the god was out right now, I would still play hellrider over it since hellrider provides immediate impact and doesn't need support to be good. Purphoros in most situations will simply be a win more, but I can see it winning games you could not do with the current configuration of RDW. People also forget purphoros will sometimes be a mulligan, if I have all burn spells and a 1 drop what is purphoros doing?

    Quote from PJFilth
I'll be honest, I'm not exactly keen on the new Garruk. For 6 mana, I'd rather be dropping more threat. He's not exactly a "game changer" in any way. His first ability is nice, second is nice, last is...just nice, nothing extraordinary here.

I'd rather use his slot for more creatures.

Garruk is exactly what the deck needs, you need a way to refuel your resources. You need a threat outside of kalonian hydra to dump that excess mana. You can fix the 6 mana slot with primeval bounty or lower your curve post board, but garruk is never a card that will be like shoot I drew garruk.
I'm thinking of siding Nylea disciple versus mono red as a way to stabilize and hold off until kalonian hydra hits the board. Sucks it dies to the new slagstorm
