I know I'm late to the party, but I was googling my name and you put my list in the primer. Sweet!

Running 2 Tasigur in general is a bad idea. I don't feel Thrun is good at the moment, and there's little reason to run it over anything else.

Thrun is great. I wouldn't have made it to 2nd at SCG States without him. In 10 rounds I boarded him in 6 times and he won multiple games.

And Knightfall makes its first finish! Many decks here (the SCG links) are not labelled well - "Bant aggro" is a good enough name I guess.

The names on the Spreadsheet are the names SCG gave them on their website. I didn't lable them. I just copied what they tittled them. I didn't proof read all 392 deck lists.

I did a meta breakdown from last weeks SCG States. Just to try to get a good feel for the "paper" meta across the US. Jund wasn't disappointed to see Jund putting up some solid results. It ended up being just over 8% of the top 8 and was 12% of the first place finishes.

Thank you. It was worth the work just to see that Burn made "Top 8" 34 times, but only won 2 times. Grin

Just finished a full mete breakdown from last weekends Fall Modern States. I only have 49 of the 52 results so give a slight margin of error. The data is compiled of the 392 decks that made "Top 8" and of those decks what decks actually placed first. I am also providing a link to a spreadsheet of all those decks. The spreadsheet contains hyperlinks to each individual list. Some of the deck lists like UW Gifts and Esper Gifts for example, have been paired together, but can still be found under the actual titles in the spreadsheets. Please enjoy and discuss.

I literary bought all the pieces to infect so that the locals that keep showing up with tron don't keep showing up with the same deck week after week and expect to do well. (Gbx players have most of the money pieces, i didnt mind) I'm not trying to eliminate tron from being played at the lgs, but two guys said they don't intend to play any other deck, so I'm happy to try warping my local meta since they think they can pub stomp through a bunch of decks soft to tron

The two tron players have literally eliminated me from playing jund and junk in that particular lgs, pairings already has enough variation to how you'll place, I don't want two regular tron players stacked against my favor every week

I have a tron deck and I don't like playing with it or against it. It's so thoughtless, herp derp, do I want to win with my ugin or karn?

I feel like I'm barely playing magic against it, either they have tron assembled, and auto win or they don't and lose terribly. At least when I play against a fairly non interactive deck like amulet I can feel like I'm playing an intense game

Does the tron player have two tron lands and two ways to find the final piece along with one or two big spells? Yes. You may as well scoop

I hate the deck so much I don't even have it in me to do the whole "beat it or join it mentality"

Fulminator is useful but I think other cards could be useful in all the suggested matchups minus tron and amulet. I do feel that fulminator is far more devastating against amulet. Tron shrugs it off and has 12 ways to find the missing piece along with having the 4 lands itself

I actually bought nearly all of Infect in German for nearly the same reason. I had to go German for the flavor. I even ordered German Poison Counters. The German word for Poison is Gift. So every point of Infect damage gives them little gifts or "Giftmarkens". I will be painting a little Christmas Tree and presents on each Giftmarken. Dancing Banana

Placed 2nd at States with Jund last weekend. Pictures of my 75 are attached.

    UW Titan 2-1
    RG Tron 0-2
    URg Tarmo Twin 2-0
    Merfolk 2-0
    UWR Giest 2-0
    Grixis Twin 2-1
    Ad Nauseam ID 1-1-1
    UR Storm 2-0
    Grixis Twin 2-1
    Burn 1-2 (Finals)

Why no Huntmaster of the Fells in the 75?

I didn't feel he was the right meta call for this last weekend. Opted to play Kitchen Fink in the side instead. I honestly didn't need Olivia in the main in hindsight. Abbot might have been better in that spot thinking back to all my games.

It's great in addition to finks. And looks like the meta would have been okay for it.

Hindsight is 20/20, I went with what felt the best and it took me to 2nd. There was no getting out of my 3rd game against Burn. My turn one IoK revealed 2 Skullcrack and two Atarka's Command. On turn two he Atarka's Commanded me and hit 3 and played an land to play a Lightning Bolt. I had friends on both sides of the table and talking after there was no misplays or ways of really getting out of it. Off the cards we drew he had the game. Game two was actually a mull to five. My 7 was pretty bad, and my 6 was Duress, Lilly,(Card?) and Bolt, but no black sources.

I feel like this is a classic example of why you're better off being light on Tron hate and heavier on burn hate. Even with 3 fulminator mages and a crumble to dust Tron is still really hard, and with only 2 kitchen finks for the burn matchup you went 1-2. If I were you I would drop at least the Crumble to Dust and find space for a 3rd piece of lifegain and a huntmaster somewhere in the 75.

Either way 2nd at a 7 round tournament is pretty impressive. Any changes you would make based on its tournament performance?

Ya, 7 rounds and a cut to top 8. Huntmaster would have been good in the side for a couple of the matches. In the last match against Burn it would have been nice to have a feed the clan or something in place of a Fulminator Mage. The Tron match up is pretty bad and I was hoping squeak threw it. When I was in 8th place going into round 6 and that Tron player was 3rd and lost that round and lost his top 8 spot to a guy with really bad tie breakers.

I like the list (and the pimpage), but the Graven Cairns confuses me. Why play that over Twilight Mire? You need double black for LotV and lots of green for Ooze, but when do you ever need double red? I see the 1x Anger, but other than that...

Congrats, tabletop. It's crazy that even with 4 land hate, 2 ways of bringing back those fulminators, and dark confidant to dig for those cards that this matchup is horrendous. You could add 2 blood moons and still be easily beaten.

What would you guys put this matchup as? 40/60? It doesn't feel like a 40/60, I have to jump through some serious hoops and lucky draws to win. Junk was even worse. last week at my lgs, I had solid opening hands of discard, goyf, scooze, land, and had to scoop on the spot when my opponent assembled turn 3 or turn 4 karn/ugin. I can't beat an opening hand of 2 urza lands, 2 ways of finding the last land, and 2 or 3 big spells. I didn't even really get to play the game those 2 rounds.

If Fulminator isn't amazing in other matchups, we should just seriously resign to that matchup and sideboard to shore up other matches

Tabletop, how did you like Thrun? Jund seems so solid against blue decks in general, you didn't feel like it was a "win more" card? Did he help that much?

I see you basically replaced the 14th creature spot for the 3rd abrupt decay; I did that, too, except I used that spot for a 4th copy of terminate instead. Do you feel that the 3rd copy of decay is better since the grixis hype is dying down?

I'm not sold on abbot at all, I'd rather be topdecking Huntmaster when my opponent and I are hellbent.

I went with Graven Cairns over Twilight Mire because I feel I am always fetching green sources for Ooze anyways and I wanted Graven Cairns for my Terminates and Olivia. Whenever I am using Olivia's first ability I always feel short on red sources. Graven Cairns also gives me better reach against the aggro match ups when I bring in both Anger of the Gods and Damnation. Only one time during the ten total rounds was I ever short on green sources and that was against Grixis and I went 6 turns on only my two opening lands and still won threw 3 Tasigur (One recurred threw Kol Command) and a Grave Titan.
I could cut Crumble to Dust and maybe a single Fulminator Mage. Fulminator is just really good in a lot of match ups.

Thrun was my all day All Star. I am tracking down a German foil right now because of how spectacular he was. There were no win more situations. It let me land and keep a threat against UW Titan and I knew he had a Path, Mana Leak and a Detention Sphere in hand. Thrun reached out with impunity and won my 3rd game in round 1. In Round 3 he went head to head against Tarmogoyfs in Tarmo Twin. Bought me several turns to turn the game around and I ended up 2-0 against him. I also brought him in against Grixis Twin both times. Both times he made Terminate and Snap/Terminate look silly. Which I feel is Gixis's edge against us. He even went head to head with a Grave Titan and won thanks to a Kol Command and Regenerate. Against UWR Geist I dropped him on turn 4 and watch his head role back. He had zero outs to the card. Thrun was better all day than Huntmaster ever could have been.

I feel the RG Tron match up is like 25/75. Even when you have Fulminator Mage or something similar some lists are now playing cards like Thragtusk just encase they can't get Tron. Like Wurmcoils, Karns, and Ugins are not hard enough to deal with.

This is kind of surprising to me too. Jund is definitely more green and black mana hungry deck. We only need double red for Anger of the Gods and Raging Ravine. That said I agree that Twillight Mire is better than Graven Cairns in this deck.

I kinda went over this above, but I wanted the red and back sources more than green. I expected Affinity and some more aggro decks. I wanted Olivia, Anger and Damnation to always be online.

Has anyone tested or thought about Soul Spike. I know it is a really bad card advantage, but taking out a Deceiver Exarch or gaining 4 life out of nowhere could be very nice.

Are Bloodstained Mires ok instead of Verdant? Seems like they can searh for me every single shockland in Living End deck. Can't see any reasons to buy Verdants.
    Thoughts?

They can search for all your shocks, but Verdant can search out my only two basic lands. Forest and a Swamp. That is where Mire is lacking.

If Bloodbraid Elf where to come back, does anyone think it would be worth playing?

Some people tried it out while it was still legal, and the answer is "not really." It introduces inconsistency to your cascades, which is extremely hurtful to the deck's game plan; when I cast a spell with cascade, I want to be 100% certain that it will hit Living End.

even free fulminator, free cascade into a cascade, free beast within, free SSG? why is this all that bad? its not like we have to cast the cascaded spell we flip into? if anything it looks like it dings into useful stuff in our deck.

When I cascade I want to know I am cascading into Living End. Sometimes I need that 3 mana wrath of good and I want to know I am getting it and not a 2/2 bear.
