I currently have Grisly Salvage as a 2-of. It's decent for finding lands to make sure I hit 5 mana reliably, but without Unburial Rites to dump into the yard as well it seems a little lackluster. I'm considering replacing it with Commune with the Gods so I can at least hit Whip off it.
It's great being able to hit Whip with Obzedat's Aide if you need to as well. There's a lot of games where I'm whipping an Angel of Serenity just to remove blockers and bashing with a 5/6 and some 4/4 rats for the win.
I've been toying with this idea for a bit, and it's pretty fun. I ended up going G/B/W for Lotleth Troll over Emisary as my other discard outlet. The mana is pretty shaky, but the regen and the mana-less discard from the Troll are both really nice.
I think Whip is the most important card in the deck. The lifelink is so valuable, and when you're getting back an Ashen Rider, or a Angel of Serenity, it's okay they don't stay as they generate value either way. I'm up to 3 whips, cutting back to a miser's Rescue from the Underworld.
I had originally cut the High Priests, but I've added two back for now. I think I'll end up cutting them again for mana reasons. It is a sweet card though.
Hey all,
Seeing as rotation is soon, I want to bring back some sweet durdles for FNM tonight, but I'm having trouble deciding on what to play. I've narrowed it down to three:
2. UR Burn at the Stake/Battle Hymn combo.
Fairly standard Young Pyromancer fun times. Been fiddling with Battle Hymn long before it had any support, and as fun as YP is, all the extra attention kind of spoils some of the fun (maybe I'm just a magic hipster..) Still, Storm is great.
3. UR Guttersnipe/Burning Vengeance
I'm going to miss Burning Vengeance and it's value train when it rotates. Adding 4 untargetable burn and killing a dude to Think Twice just feels soo good. I fear it's lost some impact with S-Ooze's introduction, but it might still be fun as a last hurrah.
Any thoughts on which it'd be more fun to lose to/beat mercilessly? I've thought about just running each a different week, but I have to travel a lot on the weekends for work, and I'm not sure I'll make it to any more FNM's before rotation.
I've still got a few hours to decide (yay Alaska time! >_>) but looking for some input. Anyways, feel free to post your thoughts or wacky combos/plays you're going to miss. Just waxing nostalgic a bit, looking for like-minded souls.
I feel like Affinity is the Dredge of the format (though less consistant, thankfully). Sits a bit on the outside, but if you're not prepared it can be a beating.
That seismic/pox list looks pretty spicy, thanks for the tip. I'm not super concerned with budget in general, I was just excited to get them. (Thoughtful of you though)
I'm not too interested in dropping $200 on a pet deck, but if it's on staples I can use elsewhere/get back value from I'm not opposed.
I just got some Life from the Loams on the cheap from a coworker, and would like to play around with them, maybe brew a little. But first, I thought I'd take a survey of what decks other people are seeing/playing them in.
I know it's not the most abusable card in modern (no wasteland), but it's still powerful, and I like grindy synergy based decks.
I don't know if you can spare the room, but Archaeomancer is a mini-combo with Ghostly Flicker, since his trigger doesn't go on the stack till Flicker is done resolving (put in the graveyard) so you can grab it back, flickering a detain guy or other thing every turn.
Edit: You might also try Shinx of Uthuun in an ancillary role? You can get some pretty serious card advantage by blinking him. Maybe over Archon since he has an immediate effect? Just brainstorming.
You could make a deck focused around Guttersnipe and cards like Kiln Fiend, Gelectrode, and Wee Dragonauts, potentially throw in some Goblin Electromancer as well, then fill the deck with cheap draw and burn. I don't think it's going to be the most competitive, but it'd be cheap and probably pretty fun.
Squelch is easier to cast, and seems to hit the same things as Shadow of Doubt, plus Planeswalker activations, plus a host of other things.
The only thing I can think of is maybe it's just for Scapeshift?
Anyone know?
I would love to see something like:
Spifle -- U:sympu:
Counter target activated ability.
Doesn't hit triggered abilities, but a fun tempo card and it would add a bit of honesty to mana bases.
I've been thinking about going back to 2-Color so I can use Mutavault, but I'm hesitant to give up the LolTroll.

with Devastation Tide and Elvish Visionary shenanigans. Draw all the cards!

In all seriousness though, Burning-tree Emissary + Hidden Strings = Fun times?
I'm thinking you tap down a blocker or two, swing, cipher to untap lands and empty your hand on the table, or hold up Searing Spear/Counterspell
Sure white is more aggro, but this can play more tempo.

Thoughts on where it fits best?
I don't know how hard it is on the colors, but I've been running Boseiju in the board, and it's helped a lot.
