Since obsessive skinner makes a big impact, and you also have rabid bite, wicker witch would be preferable to harvest hand ImO. Also, considering how powerful fying is in the format, you should be playing both crow of dark tidings. I'd remove thornhide wolves
and lambholt pacifist. While the pacifist is a two drop, which you lack. He would contribute less to your victory than the bird that will go unblocked often. You have plenty of good blockers.
I see your point about the wicker witch. Also, I usually wish harvest hand went to the graveyard after dying so I could turn delirium on. Thanks for the advice.
I will try the birds and see how they go, my only fear is being to slow against the aggressive decks in the meta. Also, I donn't like the wolves either, but thought I might need some beef for the late game. Could slayer's plate be used for the same goal?
Hi, I am currently geting into sealed and my LGS has started a league that started with the pre-release pool and grows each week by 2 booster packs. I like the idea since the format reminds me of when I was a kid and had to buy packs to get the rares and add them to my deck and beat my friends.
Anyway, I have little experience with sealed and, although I think the pool is neat, I can't see the best combination for putting a deck together. I always tend to build midrange / control decks since I seldom play aggro. My main concern is having a nice aggro pool and not noticing it.
Right now I have builded a B/g deck, which does great against other midrange and aggro decks, but is unable to beat straight aggressive decks.
I am 99% the best color in the pool is black, followed by green, although both colors lack 1/2 turn drops. I like the look of my blue, but have no idea how to win games with it. Finally, I don't see the usual good common cards in white and red I would like to have, such as fiery temper or Puncturing light, but perhaps they are not needed in some configuration.
What is Kor skyfisher in the deck for?
I personally would throw in more rebel-seekers, since you only have 4 - 4 nad in removal heavy matchups you are not going to be able to untap with them easily.
I'm not feeling any sort of love from SOI as of the moment, and I'm losing hope, I mean geeez, I know Griselbrands dead and all storywise, but it wouldn't hurt to give us some toys, seeing it's his homeplane and all
I've been testing with Heir of Falkenrath and have found her to be awesome in the grixis list. Got 2 Kalitas in their as well.
I used to see lists that ran Geist of saint traft in the side, and since they are at their lowest now, I was wondering what matches he is good against and if I should get a playset. Any thoughts?
So close Missed top8 due to tie-breakers at my 40man tournament today...my only loss was the absolute apocalypse of drawing lands...oh well, deck performed well, report below:
Round 1: 1-1 draw with Elves (yeah, this sounds really weird...)
G1: This game took 43 minutes...wtf...anyway, I was on the draw but still able to apply pressure early with a pair of Blademasters that got big quickly...if I'd been on the play the game would have ended around T6 but that's just hypothetical...anyway, game became extremely stalled. I kept attacking with 10/10ish Blademasters with Lifelink and he eventually got Ezuri to pump everything...he kept attacking back but multiple first-strike blockers made it really hard for him to get through...Game ended when he drew his final elf to enable 3 pumps a turn (15 mana) with 6 attackers...at that point he had too much power for me to survive. I saw a total of 26 cards from my library (including a CoCo which hit only a Jwari Shapeshifter. A Path would have won me the game. An Evangel would have won me the game. Ah well...
G2: Started the game with 2:30 on the clock. I attacked for 18 on T3 and had more than lethal T4 which was the first extra turn.
SB: Very rushed because I knew I could win the next game so I just wanted to get on with it...I think i went +1 Lantern Scout, +1 Dismember, -2 Firemantle Mage...
0-0-1 overall record
Round 2: 1-2 vs. Eggs
This deck still exists? lol...I know the guy...his deck tends to go off Turn 5 and I think I'm quite favoured pre-board...anyway,
G1: I'm on the play with a not amazing hand...Put him at 3 on Turn 4 with myself at 36 (not exactly sure)...He needed to draw a land for his Krark-Clan Ironworks to go off...had 12 lands left in the deck...obviously hit it...
G2: I have a good starting hand with 2 lands, a vial, 3 cheap creatures and an Ancient Grudge. I get out ahead dealing damage but my first 6 draw-steps are 5 lands and an Aether Vial...luckily for me he fails to go off to and I somehow win this game...like what??
G3: Mulligan, keep a good hand, draw 5 lands, a second Vial, a Stony Silence on T5ish which would have won the game but he has Spell Snare and a single Ally in Kazandu Blademaster...I lose on something like Turn 10...Yeah, should have won this match imo, but my draws weren't permitting.
SB: +1 Ancient Grudge, +1 Naturalize, +1 Jwari Shapeshifter, +1 Stony Silence, +2 Dismember, -4 Path to Exile, -2 Firemantle Mage
0-1-1 overall record
Game 3: 2-0 vs. RG Eldrazi
Finally some enjoyment! I love beating up on this stupid deck...
G1: I'm on the play and curve out to a T4 kill through a Dismember and a blocking Matter Reshaper...Firemantle Mage stops him from blocking on the final attack.
G2: This one's in clear memory: I mulligan to 6. He goes T1 Mimic, I play a Hada Freeblade. He has a Matter Reshaper and attacks for 3. I have no 2-drop and can't attack back. He has another Reshaper and attacks for 6. I play Lantern Scout and attack back for 2, gaining 2 life and trading with Reshaper (I wanted the life quite badly to avoid dying to a Smasher...He plays Endless One for 4 and attack me to 3. I play land go. He plays smasher and attacks with it, a 4/4 Endless One, a Reshaper and a Mimic. I can see he thinks he's won. I play CoCo and hit 2 Blademasters. I can't however block and live while saving everything so I block the Reshaper with a Blademaster and put the other 2 in front of the Endless One. I take 10 but gain 9 so I'm at 2. I untap and play Battlesinger plus Freeblade and crack back for 17. My Blademasters are now both 5/5...this line wouldn't even have lost to another Smasher...he draws and scoops.
SB: +1 Lantern Scout, +2 Dismember, +1 Jwari Shapeshifter, +1 Firemantle Mage, -4 Kabira Evangel, -1 Expedition Envoy
1-1-1 overall record
Round 4: 2-0 vs. Affinity
G1: We both mulligan to 6. I have a great draw, going through his 2 Master of Etheriums with an Evangel and winning T4.
G2: This one is kind of insane. I have t1 Vial, T2 Druid + Freeblade, T3 Double Battlesinger and Evangel, T4 Company. He responds by Galvanic Blasting my Evangel, I respond with another Company...kind of mad. End up with 3 Battlesingers in play and 2 Evangels, about 4 attackers with Menace and +7/+0? something along those lines...
SB: +1 Ancient Grudge, +1 Naturalize, +2 Stony Silence, +1 Firemantle Mage, +1 Jwari Shapeshifter, +1 Lantern Scout, -4 Evangel, -3 Envoy
2-1-1 overall record
Round 5: 2-1 vs. Affinity (This match is on Camera, I'll link it once it goes up on youtube (not sure if it will...it'll be swiss german anyways :D))
G1: He goes T1 Vault Skirge, T2 Plating, equip, attack for 6...I mulled to 5 this game and had a good hand, but I can't race a 6 power flying life linker that starts attacking on T2...at least not with 5 cards.
G2: I have a vial, he has T1 double Vault Skirge, T2 I play Blademaster and pass. He again has a Plating, attack for 7 with lifelink. I untap, play a Freeblade and pass. He plays Aether Grid and Opal, he untags and I Ancient Grudge his plating. I play a Shapeshifter copying Blademaster, attack, vial in Lifelink and gain 8. Lifetotals flip up to 16-14 in my favour. He plays a Signal Pest and attacks for 2. I untap and attack. He block Blademaster and tries to shoot Lantern Scout with Aether Grid. I bounce my Lantern Scout with Encampment, re-vial it in. Lifelink to 28, he goes to 6. Draws and scoops.
G3 he mulls to 5. I play Freeblade into Stony Silence. Game. Over.
SB: +1 Ancient Grudge, +1 Naturalize, +2 Stony Silence, +1 Jwari Shapeshifter, +1 Lantern Scout, -4 Evangel, -2 Envoy
3-1-1 overall record. I end up 10th. Top 8 aligned perfectly, they all drew in the last round. Sucks that that works and my horrible draws were round 2...if they'd been later or not at all or the rankings hadn't aligned so perfectly for everyone to draw in i could have made it. But oh well, shows the power of the deck. I truly believe it's very viable right now. Next time the luck will be on my side and I'll show them all
Great report, sorry you didn't make it. Question about your list: How often did you missed 1-2 creatures out of coco?
I think our deck is poised fairly well against Eldrazi and the new format that comes with it. The biggest issues I foresee are Knot Seers, their fast clock and maybe Chalice. Does our main deck need to adapt to improve the matchup? What's the prevailing sideboard now?
If running blue, echoing truth might be useful, bouncing seers to get the card and bouncing relics if ready to go off
Any thoughts on the new spoiled card, pieces of the puzzle?
The effect seems better than scheming, since at least it could put some more digging / part of the combo in our hand, but the 3 cmc and the sorcery speed might be too slow.
Saw one of the latest lists on mtggoldfish running a sinlge hooting mandrills in the SB. Do you think they're there for the bolt decks? Have any of you tried it?
First one I played the stock list I posted two days ago. Ended up third, beating melira company (through melira XD) and bogles in the first two rounds, and losing to blue moon mainly because of missplays. At the end of the day I wished I have had 1 more forest, but still don't know if 2 Breeding pools are 1 too few. Any insight on this?
Second tournament I played last Tom Ross' list posted here, except I played Serum visions instead of Nissa's Oath. I missed Apostle's blessing and mutagenic growth a lot. Why aren't hey used nowadays?
Reflected image felt underperformed, so I think I will be getting rid of them in the MB. A question about the list: When are the Wall of roots supposed to come in?
Any advice for a newbie is always welcomed.
My meta is usually very agressive, heavy in combo and aggro, and light in control.
Hi, finally got the Nexuses to finish the deck. I have started from one of the stock lists I found on the internet, but I feel the list isn't as explosive as I want it to be in tomorrow's FNM.
- Is it correct to run 19 lands and dryad arbor in the side if little BGx is expected?
- Late lists are running less mutagenic growths and running serum, dismember or images. Isn't it better to be more explosive in the new meta?
I have read the comments about slip through space and I'm willing to give it a chance, what should I cut from it?
Hey, there is a streaming going on on twitch where people are playing modern without a banlist. Format's pretty crazy but is fun seeing the cards that have been discussed here over time being played all together. Here's the link to the streaming:

The effect that card provides is not new. Should you want more of the same, check Oona's prowler
