Hey reverend just made my second 5-0! this time beated combo deck first match 2-0. Infect second match 2-1, infinity third match 2-0, elves 4th match 2-1 and dredge last match 2-1. The only mu I felt a bit lucky is vs dredge cause he had slow start second match and i was down 0-1 but all other mus felt pretty sweet.
I must admit Telling time and muddle are both flexible slots...they could be other things, but since I am 18-2 last 4 tournaments, I just dont want to touch anything right now... Muddle is my 4th beck/call if needed but can also be a hard counter and can be a third runed halo,rip or stony silence. I also won a game using it to tutor snapcaster and another to tutor spreading seas vs tron... Originally it was a 4th spreading seas but just wanted more flexibility. telling time was a brain in the jar, but like i said, just didnt like brain. I found sram to be . better than i thought cause it can be played without beck/call and still be good. So i thought that telling could be a good card to dig for answers...But telling could be another counter.
As for negates vs leaks,never tried only negates so its hard to say. Leaks been good so far and it's more versatile. Usually giving me just enough time to combo or to let vision resolve. guess it depends on meta, but it's rare that leaks are really bad. Also, this deck is a bit less good vs creatures than usual list with walls, finks and planewalkers... So countering a creature can also be good at times...
I'M 4-0 in the other league i just started. The deck is pretty good because it draws so many cards. In my last 15 games I'm 14-1...That's crazy. I had a long stretch with straight uw while I was just a bit over 3-2ing almost every league. You should try the list. Vs other control deck I usually win because I have more way to draw than them and sram by itself can win the game. delver can be trouble cause of early pressure plus tons of counter but it's clearly beatable. But delver was hard to beat with straight uw control too. vs aggro decks, it's pretty simple too cause all my 1-1 do the job while I draw more cards than them. Tron just cant beat me, especially after sideboard. the deck is faster than normal uw so vs combo decks or vs tron kind of decks, I have more pressure on them. vs jund or death shadow, if you can combo, they have hard time...after sb its even better and visions does great job. Problem is vs burn wich is almost unbeatable with that list and that board...But its a small part of the meta. Even dredge has trouble cause we can block all day long and finish with flyers...after board its also harder for them
I've beated almost every decks so far and it's really good with my meta full of death shadow and tron and affinity...

Hey guys, just did my first 5-0 with my list (sram+beck/call). Faced a lot of tron recently and my list just destroys tron. Only mu Ive been really lucky is burn cause its mostly unbeatable with my list...I did 3-2 the league just before, but should have been 4-1...I timed out while I was clearly winning, thats the price of being a husband and a father hahahhaha. Overall IM'doing really fine with the deck. In fact betetr than a traditional uw list.
I replaced brain in a jar for muddle the mixture and one spreading seas for telling time. I dont like brain at all...was siding it out everytime. as for spreading seas, muddle can become a 4th one...and be a 4th beck/call... I also -2 blessed alliance in the sb for condemn and timely reinforcement. dont like blessed as a removal...so better have timely (gains more life) and condemn(better removal. reverend I did not try the black list yet are you still playing it? For those who wonders if I struggle to play the combo with only 4 sram to expertise and fuse...Well sram can combo with vision, but in lot of situation it can also win on its own...putting a spreading sea while putting 3 tokens or a detention sphere or even a geist of saint thraft usually putting them on a 2 turns clock...

I finished my league 4-1 losing only to a weird deck playing only haste flying creatures...I lost 1-2. Flooded one match and he was on go twice. last match he had it all...counter at right time with perfect curve and i could not find answers... He alo played izzet statiscaster to kill all my birds and my servo when i played my combo. My last game was vs another uw control deck and wow it was close. First match I lose cause i draw all my threats with huge card advantage but supreme verdicts are uncounterable...I take 12 minutes in that game so i must hurry. match 2 i play geist while facing a crucible with tech edge lock and win in 6 turns. match takes only 3 minutes. match 3 I play my combo after taking a beating of 15 lifes cause of his vendilion clique, he wrath, i play a sram and put it at low life. I manage to play geist he does too... after a counter war im at 3 lifes he is at 6 and i win cause i path his angel and i have only 1 minute left on the clock...
Overall I like also the uw version, but ill probably try the esper list. esper charm is the reason to play esper.

IM 3-0 now in my league on mtgo with my list. mana denial is good now...and this list can tappout and recover. I was sceptical with ancestral vision being good in modern, but Ive changed my mind!

you play jar instead? Problem with jar is all the artifact hate...I really like sram cause only counters can disturb combo. I'm having problem so far against control deck like grixies delver wich always been a bad mu for me... any plan vs them? Guess having access to discard is a key. only 24 lands can be problem also if you side out spreading seas. IVe lost games cause of mana wich is why i'm concerned about mana in esper list.
Also, the meta is so diversified now it's crazy...Playing control is pretty hard. I'm not a huge fan of any plan for Tron that doesn't also involve slamming the gas pedal. Spreading seas doesn't really matter against them if you can't kill them before they just drop enough lands to cast things anyways. That's why I'm a huge fan of 2-3 geists in the sideboard. They are wonderful against Tron, combos and control which is what I want for my sideboard. My view of the deck is that we should be preboarded to body decks that want to amass some dudes and kill you with them since that's the majority of modern decks, then fully devote the sideboard to beating everything else.
agree with ,most of what you say. Thats the main reason I play 1 finks and 1 resto angel main plus i have an extra finks in sb and 2 aven mindscensor. I feel I have enough gas to put pressure while staying a control deck. Of course geist would be awesome, I just don't have space for him. If tron becomes huge in the meta ill definitly change my sb.
I tried a new friendly league on mtgo finishing 3-2 this time. The only changes were -1 mana leak for one disallow and -1 supreme verdict for sphinx's revelation. moved the supreme verdict to the board for -1 condemn in the board.
I lost my first match to zoo. This mu is pretty close for us but I usually win. Both games were close, but he found the rigth cards at right moment (negating my life gain each time)and I lost 0-2.
I also lost my second match to dredge. I lost game one at turn 4. he had already 6 creatures on board with me at 3 lands and i could not wrath. it would not have changed anything...He would have won anyway he had a fast start. Second game, I won by milling him basically by keeping my life total healty with walls then wrathing multiple times and by taping creatures multiple turns with cryptics. Lost last games because of a misclick on mtgo that used the wrong mana type and left me unable to cast a flash back supreme verdict with snapcaster. he would have died other wise. I have no sb against dredge because there were so much hate that it almost disapeared from meta. Still it's winnable.
Won match 3 2-0 vs affinity. game 1 I had all answers killing with path to exile and condemn every treat and killing it's land with quarters he ran out of gas and I was still at 14 lifes. Game2 with all hate I have in the board, they have little chance. He had a fast start and he overcommited to make a fatal push. I chomped block a 10-10 master of etherium with jace then turned him and killed a wall to prevent most damage. I wrathed on turn 4 and with jace on board he had no other thing to do than concede.
Match 4 was against another uw control deck but with thopter combo and with unburial rite-gift ungiven combo. I won first game by putting an elspeth he did his combo to put an eleshnorn and killing all my tokens, but i killed the creature and won few turns after. second games he won on turn 4 when he did the combo putting Iona naming white. I could not play a single card and he won by swinging 3 times. game 3 I won with aven mindscensor and couple of counter and snapcaster mage.
Match 5 was against combo deck with artifacts. He won game because I missplayed. on turn 4 I drew a finks while I had already a clique on board. I had a manaleak in hand and knew all 4 cards he had. I had no other counter and decided he could not combo on the turn so decided to put finks to have a 3 turns clock. he had the combo and I died. game 2-3 i won with stony silence.
without my mistake I could have been 4-1. Best thing is I had a chance to win in every match. All the small changes did not make a big difference but disallow seems ok here. Graveyard hate would have helped me in 3 matches, but I won 2 of those and could have won the other so I'm still uncertain. pretty sure I can use only 3 verdicts in the 75. Ill try it next time. ill probably test Dragonlord Ojutais.

This deck just looks like it can only beat tron on the most perfect of draws. I'd also be wary of running baby Jace since fatal push, at least locally, is everywhere. You could consider putting one of the supreme verdicts in the board and only run two main, as well as put the condemn in the board to free up two slots for sphinx's rev.
Frankly I don't like baby jace in a list like this because its only flashing back supreme verdicts and path to exiles? That just seems really bad. My vote is cutting jace in a list like this and play him in a more tapout centered list where you don't care about playing on your opponents turn.
First, tx for comments. I'll probably try to remove a supreme verdict in the 75 to make place for sphinx. Tron mu is not in my favor, but it's not as desperate as it may seem. I just drew really bad finding no counter and no hate card after boarding and he drew karn both times and put it on board turn 3 each time. Of course, if the meta is only Tron, ill make a list full of spreading seas.
About baby jace, fatal push does not scare me cause the meta is full of ligthning bolt anyway and it still performed really well for me. It has 2 more targets (cryptic and ojutais command) and have more targets after board like disenchant. Also, the ability to chose your card for a couple turn running through the deck is good. Even the -2-0 helped me in some mu. You can also chomp block on the turn it turns to a walker...then you turn it and it saves you some life. I was sceptical too at first. I tried it and it's way better than i thought. the fact that it cost only two helps a lot.
@to polkaprik: crucible can win the game in control mu combined with quarters, but also with tec edge. It's good vs azban and vs tron decks. Infect and affinity are too fast.
The list mox ruby just posted is interesting. Ill try dissalow.

I'm not an experienced Tezz player and I'll be taking everyone's comments into consideration. What I am trying to do is make a deck that is disruptive early and have specific tutorable hosers and a bunch of just 2-for-1s or CA from the 3-4 cmc slots (why i want thirst over serum visions, also allows me to play situational artifacts mb).
Once I have a list I am happy with, I am going to buy the cards I am missing and start playtesting.
I really don't like Ensnaring Bridge or The Rack. I have played with Ensnaring Bridge a lot in the past and hate them because they are vulnerable to Abrupt Decay and once they are gone you won't have any more answers since you have no cards in hand. Also, I don't think they will be all that great in a deck with Thirst for Knowledge and Dark Confidant. As for The Rack, I just don't think it does enough.
I cant say it enough, but ghost quarter with citadel = fetchables lands...but painless and ghost is great vs other decks. citadel upping your artifact count as a bonus...
About the fact that bridge is vulnerable to hate...well all cards are. The main reason why we run spellskite is we can lock...plus all graveyard comeback cards like ruins and post...But honestly, I would not run a tezz deck without bridge. It is the card that saved me the most time period.
About the fact that the rack "does not do enough", well you have lot of artifacts that does not do enough in mb. For example, I would rather play rack than cage mb because cage is only really good vs pod...and nihil can do it game 1. 3 engineered is way too much and because of all the draw + tutorable effect you don't need 3 times same artifact. Chalice of the void only really shines vs tron, delver, combo so definitly a sb card also. You play lili and lot of discard, the rack and bridge are mendatory.
I have never played a deck more than this one...neve rput more energy on fine tuning a deck than this one. believe me it,s ton of fun, but if you want to save time and money, you should listen to these advices...
I watched lesage streaming today...we played mostly vs tron and just after his Stream... I played couple of games and won 2-0 vs tron!!!
@Ace, yeah I can see how shackles reduce the need of sweepers...but stony silence is harder to your version...I will try it for sure...I might have my fetch next week

@ronin, I like green splash, but honestly I think it's the abrupt decay I would like the most in your list...
I dont like batterskull there...it,s antisynergy with bridge...I tried it both in legacy and modern tezz...did not make the cut.Dont like artificer intuition either, mostly what psycho said. What I dont like from the list is cant play tezz turn 3...but strings definetly better than vision so I migth give it a try too...still need fetches before I do that!
for your sb...guess it's all meta call, but if you bring it to mtgo... 4 needle is too much, dont need second nihil in sb and probably dont need 4th spell skite.
You have no combo decks in your area? cause I think you miss 1-2 discard cards and extirpate, or surgical extraction, or cranial....

I cant say it enough, but ghost quarter with citadel = fetchables lands...but painless and ghost is great vs other decks. citadel upping your artifact count as a bonus...
About the fact that bridge is vulnerable to hate...well all cards are. The main reason why we run spellskite is we can lock...plus all graveyard comeback cards like ruins and post...But honestly, I would not run a tezz deck without bridge. It is the card that saved me the most time period.
About the fact that the rack "does not do enough", well you have lot of artifacts that does not do enough in mb. For example, I would rather play rack than cage mb because cage is only really good vs pod...and nihil can do it game 1. 3 engineered is way too much and because of all the draw + tutorable effect you don't need 3 times same artifact. Chalice of the void only really shines vs tron, delver, combo so definitly a sb card also. You play lili and lot of discard, the rack and bridge are mendatory.
I have never played a deck more than this one...neve rput more energy on fine tuning a deck than this one. believe me it,s ton of fun, but if you want to save time and money, you should listen to these advices...
@Ace, yeah I can see how shackles reduce the need of sweepers...but stony silence is harder to your version...I will try it for sure...I might have my fetch next week

I'm testing jace living guildpact now...the -3 ability won me couple of games, but still not sure if it will make the cut...jace architect was better I think
@ronin, I like green splash, but honestly I think it's the abrupt decay I would like the most in your list...
I dont like batterskull there...it,s antisynergy with bridge...I tried it both in legacy and modern tezz...did not make the cut.Dont like artificer intuition either, mostly what psycho said. What I dont like from the list is cant play tezz turn 3...but strings definetly better than vision so I migth give it a try too...still need fetches before I do that!
for your sb...guess it's all meta call, but if you bring it to mtgo... 4 needle is too much, dont need second nihil in sb and probably dont need 4th spell skite.
You have no combo decks in your area? cause I think you miss 1-2 discard cards and extirpate, or surgical extraction, or cranial....
