If you want to get Ghoultree onto the field quickly, might I suggest Mulch in addition to Grisly Salvage, and maybe a couple of Disentombs so that you can get back what you might have milled away.

Also, consider cheaper removal. Gaze of Granite is a useful sideboard card for dealing with aggro decks that dump lots of cheap creatures on the field, but it's too costly to run straight out.

Do you need the guildgates when you have so many duals? It seems a bit pointless to have them since they're ultimately a dead land whenever you have to play them.

posted a message on So, how do you think the RtR storyline will end?
What's the story been so far?

Original Ravnica: Yeah yeah, 10 guilds, everyone hates each other and wants to be on top, oh look, some completely impossible plot twists that allow the Guildpact to be broken, which results in the guilds being 'gutted', and then, sometime between the end of Dissension and the beginning of Return to Ravnica everyone goes back to the guilds and they just...start fighting amongst themselves, which is really not that improbable, given that's what they DID EVEN BEFORE THE GUILDPACT WAS BROKEN. Oh, and Teysa drafts a new Guildpact, which isn't worth the paper it was written on.

Trostani becomes a thing, Jarad becomes a thing, Niv Mizzet comes back from his spa vacation or whatever and he's all 'Layyyydeeeeeeez'. Azorius are still boring, Boros are still suicidal and have this sexual fetish for playing policeman, but with angels and fire thrown in for good measure. Golgari take a tip from the honey badger and just don't care. Rakdos act normally. Gruul smash, etc, etc. Oh, and Domri Rade becomes a thing after being buried alive and planeswalking directly in front of some elves.

And then Jace comes back, and nobody cares except Niv-Miz in this creepy Darth Sidious sort of way, and stuff happens with him, except you don't know this unless you buy the books. And the Gateless sort of become a thing, but then halfway to the riot stage they're like "Meh, let's go to that Rakdos strip club instead" and nobody ever hears about them again.

And then Jace finds out about this maze, which was never mentioned in Ravnica before, which is apparently part of this kooky prophecy that will remake the Guildpact, which we've established doesn't actually do anything. And then somehow everyone wants to run this maze because they think the one who wins will wield ultimate power over Ravnica, and they run it, and then there's no resolution. They all run it and then it's like they just stand there and gape stupidly for a couple months until the writing staff can afford to catch up.

Meanwhile, on Innistrad, Tamiyo is all "HURR, AH'M CATALOGING YURR WHURRWULLVS" and Tibalt goes around hurting people and running away from Sorin.

    That about right?

posted a message on [[M14]] Return of Slivers
After looking at all the sliver cards there are, Wizards is making a bold leap in thinking we can really think of these new ones as Slivers. They look absolutely nothing alike. It's like taking a pterodactyl and then showing us a penguin and saying they're the same thing. There's no middle ground, no secondary change - you have slivers and then you have these things that they say are slivers but which look nothing like slivers in the least.

posted a message on Do you want a third Ravnica Block (in 5 years)?
As much as I'd like to return again, I think they screwed the pooch with the storyline. They made all the guilds strive for power, made every guild have secret shadowy plans that built tension but went nowhere, and made every guild be simultaneously good and bad. That's not good story telling.

If all they had done was make it so that some guilds are more 'evil' than others, it would have made more sense. Orzhov got a lot of attention, but they got written down as "we're corrupt Yakuza types, fufufufu, you don't pay up we'll enslave your soul". The Dimir are out in the open now, somewhat, but their knowledge-brokering business isn't coming across so well in the cards. Rakdos are the stereotypical bad guys, but really, I like them the most because they're party people, entertainers, even when they're insane. And the Golgari aren't evil at all - in fact I find them to be more righteous than the Selesnya.

I think it would be best if they left Ravnica alone for good. And Jace too.

posted a message on [Extreme Budget Deck Challenge!] -[Mr Grimgrin's Neighborhood]
Removal has been choosy this block - you've got Victim of Night, Human Fraility, and Bone Splinters to choose from. You could also include Tragic Slip as removal, although like all the other removal, it's quite picky about how effective it can be. With AVR, you also have Ghoulflesh and (I had forgotten) Death Wind.

Go For the Throats are not going to work here, I can see - at a buck each, they're ridiculously expensive. Killing Waves are also at a buck each.
