Would it have killed them to make a few cards for these characters?
Cards're finalized before the Story team / third-party writer finish their jobs. I'd bet that the framing story on Tarkir was conceptualized relatively late the period leading up to M19's release.
I'm really curious as to what's up with Bolas' maybe-hallucination of Ugin during his final battle with Arcades Sabboth and his being unable to see Ugin's bones in the canyon. Somethin' ain't right.
Here, I fixed the confrontation between Yargle and our protagonists for those of y'all who felt like said showdown betrayed the cards and characters: "And then Yargle flashed in somehow! But Jaya quickly immolated it because it only had 3 toughness (she saw three untapped mountains on the horizon and had been holding a Flame Javelin in her hand since drawing it in Yavimaya) and the Weatherlight was totally fine because, even though the skyship had blocked Yargle, Jaya's spell went off before the combat damage step."
I think that it's best to just ignore the cards when reading these stories; they're almost never gonna square off convincingly. Otherwise, Karn really should've restarted the game back on New Phyrexia.
Yeah, this'un felt...rushed. After how well she's handled Gideon and Liliana, Wells' take on Chandra read to me like a de-aging of the character into her early teenage years (what with the Nissa-pining and general lack of forethought, neither of which are new, but they're...worse?).
I actually hate this with a passion that burns like the sun.
See this is what I don't understand. Like. This is such a bizarre hill to die on. You *hate* this... With a *passion*...? Not racism, or domestic violence, or brutal dictatorship, or ethnic cleansing, political corruption, famine, war, or bullying, or even the undermining of intellectualism and learning by mainstream religion.
Did they say that they don't hate those things?
Do we really need virtue signaling in a forum about a card game?
I play most of those cards, so I'd much rather pick up one of these than two A25 or five Standard-legal packs. I love the idea of fixed inclusions (at an agreeable price) with a bonus bit of randomness.
From Vorthosian point of view, Urza's Ruinous Blast is messed up.
Like our own understanding of real-life legends, I suspect that Dominarians' knowledge of Urza / his exploits / his appearance isn't entirely factual and probably sticks to one perspective and look.
As a D&D player, I'm really happy 'bout the Creature Forge announcement! Our group's always looking for more options for minis and the two revealed thus far look great.
Confirmed by Mark Rosewater today (see attached image): "Slivers were on the short list, but were problematic in that they require a significant commitment to space and doing so would have lessened how many other references we could make, so we made the tough decision to leave them out of Dominaria."

I'm excited to see more of Jaya and Karn, though!
