Do we know the JOU buy-a-box promo yet? I won't be getting one because I bought my box online but I'm curious. I don't remember hearing what it was and usually by this time we know don't we?

This was a really cool idea, I came in a little late and still got the feel of the reveal by reading through the thread. I really hope there are a few more out there that will pop up as midnight hits across the globe!
I am really intrigued by the idea of a multiplayer draftable product - maybe it is something like a more formal version of the old Star Draft variation.
Blue Spider Events and Rail Tales will be hosting a BORN OF THE GODS PRERELEASE TOURNAMENT on SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 2014. The doors will open at 10:30AM with two options for players:
Starting at 11:30AM, we will be offering a Sealed Deck Tournament. Entry to this tournament will include a Born of the Gods prerelease pack of the color of your choice (while supplies last) to make your 40 card minimum deck. Prizes will be booster packs of Born of the Gods and will be awarded to the top finishers based on swiss-style standings and tournament attendance. Please note that to get people to their Superbowl events, this tournament will be capped at 5 rounds maximum regardless of attendance. We expect to be finished around 5:30.
In addition to the main event, we will also be running our very popular “Open Dueling” side event. Open Dueling is a casual format where players receive one Born of the Gods Intro Pack at random. Open Dueling players play against other Open Dueling participants as well as main tournament players who are between matches. At the end of the day, after an Open Dueling participant has played five matches, he or she will receive a completion prize. Open Dueling is the best option for those strapped for cash or time or who are new to the game. It first begins as soon as the doors open but can be entered at any time in the afternoon (while supplies last). It is also available for anyone in the main event as an option for filling time between rounds or before everyone arrives!
Rail Tales is taking preregistration to reserve your spot. Simply stop by the store before the day of the tournament, pay for the event, save your receipt, and you’ll be able to use that receipt to breeze through to the front of the line on event day! Preregistration also guarantees your spot in the tournament and your choice of prerelease pack color (while supplies last), even if you can’t arrive until just before the tournament starts!

No one likes to hear this, but if you are complaining about why this isn't a "real" card, the product isn't designed for you.
This product does an excellent job of doing what it was intended to do: be a fun side project/game/collectible. Note that at ALL stages of the Path of the Hero, there are other promo cards for those who are more competitive (if you aren't a fan of the prerelease, launch, and/or Game Day promos, well, that may be something for discussion in another thread). This product is targeted at the casual crowd.
Remember that two out of the seven hero cards at each stage are completely cost free to both the stores and the players! Only the prerelease Heroes "cost" something and that is entry to an event that already has other prize support and that many of us will be attending anyway.
These cards are fun, flavorful, and add a new dimension to the game... if you are into casual formats. I fully intend to get all 21 of these. I've already used the ones I have and may use them more using GodoftheGrove's ideas as well (I like the training wheels metaphor).
Theros' Hero cards can be used along with the BNG ones (the limit for 3 Hero cards remains)
Just for the sake of purity of info, I'm pretty sure that the Hydra Challenge Deck only allowed two Hero cards.
I love these challenge decks and the Horde Magic format. I'll definitely be picking one of these up and running it as a side challenge at the drafts I run!
Generally speaking, building a deck to face The Horde should be very easy for most. I get the most enjoyment out of these when I play against them with something not designed for fighting against them specifically. My play group just uses our draft decks from the night and plays one or two more games between rounds or after the draft is over.
They can't be interacted with, they are not permanents. They had a fairly large, multi-day MTGO standard constructed tournament with these cards. Everyone was able to use 2 at a time, and it was a pretty fun tournament. I never found out if the community ended up beating the hydra though....

Geist is a bit of a wild card right now, as mentioned above in post 257, a coded version with alt art showed up in MTGO and has not yet been announced (to my knowledge) for what it is being used. The announcement today seems to suggest the official announcement may not be until mid-June.
