My LGS has got a competitive multi-player EDH tournament coming up, where everyone is sure to be running fully-tuned 'spikey' lists. I am more familiar with and have more experience with French List. When asked, people have recommended playing Breya, Atraxa, Scion of the Ur-Dragon (Hermit Druid Combo), and Brago Stax. So, what is the deck(s) to beat in the format right now? What should I be expecting? Any help is really appreciated.
Bumping this thread because everyone at my LGS has switched over from G/R Monsters, Big Green, U/W Control and a small scattering of Mono-Black to R/W Aggro, Burn and G/W Aggro.
What's the best deck, in the meta right now, to take down these aggro decks?
When Xenagos ascended from being a planeswalker to a god, whose position did he usurp? Or was the G/R seat in the pantheon just always open? It seems like a continuity error for a plane with such strong and prominent g/r creatures, such as satyrs, minotaurs, centaurs and chimeras, to not have a minor god already in power.
The following factors make me dislike and distrust SCG:
-The incestuous relationship between SCG and WOTC, in terms of employment and transmission of information.
-How just about every LGS uses the inflated SCG price for singles.
-Evan Erwin (sp?) overhyping every **** card in a new set.
Wow, I played the list from the primer last night and holy **** is it bad.
-Deathrite Shaman literally does nothing.
-Lothleth troll is your one and only clunky sac outlet and is quickly taken out by last breath.
-Sylvan Caryatid is ramp to nothing.
-Pharika's Mender comes out as an overcosted vanilla 4/3
-Lifebane Zombie always wiffs in a solidly black/blue format
-WTF does Trostani even do here, there's only one creature capable of producing tokens.
-Nine times out of ten Grisly Salvage will mill out either whip, aid or rescue
-Rescue from the Underworld is a complete dead draw most of the time and quick 2 for 1, if your opponent is running counters.
The one good thing is Sylvan Primordial who blows up walkers, mutavaults and other whips, while thinning out your deck. Just an underrated all-star. Without cards like Unburial Rites in the format, it is impossible for this deck to takeover in the current meta. If anyone is looking at taking this to the GPs coming up before BNG drops, I would NOT RECOMMEND this.
Bring on the counterfeits- January 19th can't come soon enough. 55,000 is nice, but I'd like to see even more. Let's get every tournament staple to the point where it's affordable. Let's beat Wizards to the punch and sell playsets of every chase rare in Born of the Gods before the prerelease at a fraction of the cost. Most importantly of all, let's make them undetectable, so we can use them in tournaments.
One thing I think would be really helpful to counterfeiters would be a StarCityGames-style website where you can buy playsets of singles. Buying 500 copies of Underground Sea is nice, but I don't think I'll ever be able to use that many. For the security of those running the site, it should be set up on the anonymous TOR network, and accept payment only in Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies to bypass e-commerce sites such as Paypal.
I kind of agree with this. I've seen too many people forced out of magic due to the cost, myself included. If standard is going to be overwhelmingly pushed and supported by wizards, one would hope it would become more affordable.
Also, IDGAF what the six-figure makers and high-school kids on here are going to say about my opinion.
