Hit both creatures off CoCo, chose an opponents card with Freebooter, choose Freebooter with Hunters ability, decide how to stack the triggers so that you permanently exile something from the opponents hand.... If the opponent gets rid of fiend hunter then they will lose another card out of their hand (albeit temporarily). Or, you attack/chump block with Hunter to get Freebooter back.
Might not be enough to work a deck up for it, but an interesting interaction
I don't think that will work, as Freebooter's effect is just one ability while Fiend Hunter and Sculler are two separate triggers for the same reason that it doesn't work with Banisher Priest.
Yeah it doesn't work and that's mostly the explanation, same reason we are not using fairground warden, the card is exiled for as long as the creature is in play. Anyway use Sin Collector, does most of the trick you need in modern.
If you are thinking of splashing for white, Selfless spirit seems to be good vs the sweeper. or if you go for blue unsubstantiate send the spell back in hand buying that last turn I'm guessing this deck need to kill. The fun fact is that it counters the un-counterable...
But I really have no experience with this deck, I just popped in to see what teh deck looks like and yeah that's my contribution from the small look I took.
Well just to say in my defence I have 4 vial, 4 flickerwisp. I played the BW D&T, BW eldrazi Taxes, GW Vial and wisp, got most of the stuff to build UW taxes and I really came here to see the benefit of taking my list toward a flickerwisp version (my rptq is in december so I have much testing left to do). CoCo and Thalia is about the same as Fetch and Arbiter on our side. It happens, not too often, but with 6 dork quite mitigated I usually have 4-6 mana by turn 5.
But yeah I don't wnat to hi-jack the thread if this is too far and doesn't concern D&T enough I will go elsewhere (sadly not much activity elsewhere).
Anyway thanks for the input and I will keep on reading this thread either way.
Hey guys, don't bear me ill wills, I'm currently more of the GW Hatebear player than flicker, is this the big difference in the 2 archetypes? Hatebear is not a thread that has lot of discussion and I want to get my deck to be the best possible. I won a modern pptq with it and plan to bring it to my RPTQ.
The main is a simple change:
-1 Loxodon Smiter
-2 Tectonic Edge
+1 Brimaz, King of Oreskos (he wins game by himself)
+2 Horizon Canopy (still thinking about this mana change, I just think that my mana base need to be more solid than 6 colorless but...)
Sideboard will change a lot to the event but for now I'm at this:
-1 Gaddock Teeg (1 with 2 evo is enough)
-1 Melira, Sylvok Outcast (Spellskite is just better in that spot)
-1 Mirran Crusader (I shouldn't have a problem with GBx already)
-1 Aven Mindcensor (hate to see this go...)
+1 Worship
+1 Ghostly Prison
+1 Linvala, Keeper of Silence
+1 Spellskite
Why I have stuck with GW so far is the first few turns power of have mana dork instead of Aether Vial:
Dork into Leonin into ghost quarter turn 2 can just lock out someone for so long and if followed turn 3 by new Thalia... I have seen opponent just scoop at this)
Dork into new Thalia is often quite devastating really one of the best way I found for beating elves and giving a fighting chance against merfolk
Dork into Turn 3 CoCo can be painfull (The best I did was dork into THC into CoCo for Leonin and old Thalia for almost complete lock, also any combinaison of voice, smiter or brimaz is quite devastating in a lot of matchup)
Post-Sideboard Eldritch Evolution of a Dork for the perfect silver bullet hate card is perfect. Or (if safe) transform a voice into a token and a Wilt-Leaf Liege is pretty powerful...
Yet I come here because I saw the 2 top8 list and it makes me wonder if I'm on the right track or not.
Maybe thinking of putting 2 Restoration Angel in place of Wilt-Leaf Liege, giving me the choice to hold mana for CoCo or Resto. Giving more choice and playing tricks to my opponent.
I don't see how to add flickerwisp, or the good of it without aether vial.
Maybe an Eternal Witness to give me teh chance to recoup a silver bullet?
Thanks if you accept to help me on my path or not.
What do you guys think of dropping the 2 tec edge for a more consistent manabase? How often I can't cast on turn 2 my 2 drop because it require 2 color mana...
Hey guys, what is the strategy vs bant Eldrazi? My friend played vs that matchup 2 times (swiss and top4) in the last pptq he went and lost both times.
This is where my mind is at right now on the list I would play next week if I would still be chasing PPTQ. What do you guys think? I'm thinking of switching 2 CoCo for 2 Eldritch Evolution. This would give us better late game by fetching what you need if in race mode or the best creature to hinder them. Maybe the memory of the evoluion of 2 voice in 2 wilt-leaf back to back is just too good to forget.
One major difference between our list is coco vs oath. I play around sweeper by end of turn coco with them tapped out. So a one of non-flash protection in my build is not relevent for me and I would never rely on coco in sweeper answer to goldfish for the spirit.
Like you said I understand the value in D&T protecting a key flicker target or vial it in answer of sweeper is real good. But in vial less hatebear the value is just not there.
Side note if I get the time I would like to tset a split of 2 coco 2 Evo main. Sure you don't always have the information T2 for what to Evo and a mistake can be costly. But when the grind start or switching a dork or useless hate card for the match-up can still be worthwhile. Especially upgrading to wilt leaf when the race is on. Would give 2 more slot in the sideboard.
PPTQ report, 5 round swiss to Top8, around 28 participants
Went to a PPTQ on a wimp Sunday and came back with an invite to the RPTQ for PT Aether Revolt. Since I saw the spoiler of Eldritch Moon I knew that I wanted to add Thalia, Heretic Cathar into this shell but 2 weeks ago I thought about Eldritch Evolution on the sideboard. I had no chance to test the deck since a few months ago, so I thought it would be fun and didn’t feel like playing fish anyway. Sorry for the upcoming bad report, that is not my forte and I am French Canadian, so not great at writing in English either.
Deck list is at the bottom of the post.
Match 1: Zoo Burn – 2/0 Win
G1 was quite easy if I remember correctly, chaining old Thalia and is Guide giving me land 2 out of 3 times.
G2 was quite closer but old Thalia, followed by the Heretic pretty much sent him into burn mode. I lowered myself to 7 allowing an atarka’s command to save his creature and burn me for 3 with a Burrenton in play. He then burned me to 3 with a boros charm with 2 red creatures in play. He attacked I pain myself to CoCo into voice and finks, killing his 2 creature and putting myself back to 6, from there I beated him to death sacrificing my burrenton to stop a kill spell on my creature to finish him off.
Match 2: KiKi Chord – 1/1 Time limits
G1 was slow but easy with Hierarch into Heretic and him never really setting up against my ghost quarter/Arbiter combo in play. He finished is game with a basic naya lands
G2 was slow again but I was on the back foot and when I regained control of the game he resto angel into chord kiki.
G3 2min left in the round...
Match 3: Nahiri Control – 2/0 Win
Don’t really remember the matchup I controlled is land and denying him red in G2. Easy match, Thalia kept him mostly 1 mana short of doing most of his thing they way he usually does.
Match 4: Merfolk – 2/1 Win
G1 Was going really well for with Heretic in play keeping is lord less board in check but with 2 cursecatcher in play. While I was tapped out he spreading seas me following lord of atlantis for the loss...
G2 He kept his board in check with the Heretic again, but this he had trouble finding his second island and when he did it came in the way of a cavern, I just mounted a big board, Ghost & Tectonic is mutavault and Pridemage made short work of his Vial before his second counter.
G3 Merfolk is still a bad matchup but Evolution an Heretic on turn 2 into 2 Smiter the following turns made short work of the game.
Match 5: Split for third place.
Top 8: Grixis Delver – 2/1 Win
Both win felt so easy and the loss came from not playing my rest in peace turn 2 and felt ok pushing it back to turn 4 to play Thalia into Heretic. Not...
Top 4: EldraTron – 2/1 Win
G1: 1)Eldrazi Temple- 2)Eldrazi Temple-Though-Knot Seer-3)Reality Smasher-4)Enbringer-Scoop
G2: No temple for him, me beating him to a pulp through his Ratchet Bomb
G3: Playing around all is dust and is Ratchet Bomb – Eldritch Evolution sacrificing a Voice is fun, especially 2 times in 2 turn for 2 Wilt-Leaf Liege
Top 2: My opponent can’t go to the RPTQ, he was playing merfolk, quite happy from his concede.
Thoughts on the deck:
-I believe Thalia, Heretic Cathar is great in all matchup hating modern in general. Pairing her with an Arbiter is just nightmarish for an opponent, especially if you ghost quarter the removal color. The first time you get a board of both Thalia and an Arbiter, the gleam of despair is
-Dork into Arbiter and Ghost Quarter on turn 2 into turn 3 Loxodon feels very powerful.
-HateBear mostly have at least one card that is great in all matchup, you really don’t know so in G1 but in G2&3 you know which card on turn 2 cripples the adversary, that is why I have the 2 Eldritch Evolution in the side. Yes you need dork T1 to have any of your hate card out by turn 2 and you spend 2 cards to get a third one on the board, but the flexibility of having the card that you need is just powerful. This give me the chance to really go with silver bullet in the sideboard and make them feels 3 of. I sometimes only sideboard the 2 evolution in removing the 2 hate card that are useless in the current matchup or in place of the CoCo if I get the Gaddock Teeg in the deck. Late in the game converting a 2 drop now useless (arbiter or thalia) into a Liege is powerful.
Thank you for reading this, sorry for my mistake and bad report in general, I’m not good at reporting and I tend to forget the match I just played to concentrate on my next one. So when I try to recall them it’s far from perfect. I believe Eldritch Moon really gave us the push we need to make us not a 50% deck anymore. And I will surely bring this to the RPTQ, I’ll need quite a better sideboard plan than what I came up with at the last minute and retool some number in the main.

Game 1: It went back and forth I stuck him at 2 land, no red most of the game but I believe I was too aggressive in my trade which went to my defeat.
Game 2: In Chalice and 2 finks, out 3 liege. Was never in the game.
Match 2 Jeskai control *brew*
The deck is jeskai cantrip with myth realized and isochron scepter. It's a funny brew and hard if you don't take care of a scepter doing lightning helix every turn.

Game 2: In Chalice and stony silence, out 2 path to exile and 2 liege. Landed chalice for 1 turn 2 into turn 5 stony silence, scoop afterward.
Game 3: much of the same as game one, landed an earlier silence and he just couldn't deal with my fast beatdown pace. (cleared him from any red mana)
Match 3 Grixis control
1-1 tie
This match went to the limit and is all fuzzy in my mind. It was an hard fought battle that we had practiced the night before so I'm really not sure what was when... sorry
Match 4 Scapeshift
2-0 Win
Game 1: Aven Mindceonsor breaked 3 of his early land accel/fetch, scooped soon afterwards
