Which is why I prefer Coat to be honest. Given the Mirror Entity you have in there it makes that token army extremely abusive if you slip in trample say from Garruk v1 or the Kamhal
Well just so happens I have something in mind that gives +2/+2 to everything but the creatures can have no abilities! I would have mentioned it but you give your pseudo slivers abilities.. anyway! Muraganda Petroglyphs
Looks great so far - interesting taking the slivers in. One idea for pumping up the tokens actually stems from the precon premium sliver deck. Coat of Arms. Nothing like ramping up the size for a collective "Oh ****" moment right across the board.
With that in mind I'm a huge fan of getting more bang out of my tokens for an easier kill. Since we don't have easy access to haste in this color set I go with the green standard. Big ugly green. Sigil Captain
Prone to removal but definitely worth it for at least sticking around on the board for a turn or so - Mycoloth
Well now with all the token gen if you're looking for any type of life gain to give a bit of padding with the swarms you'll be putting out Essence Warden as well as Soul Warden are just flat out good insurance for me if I run into a Sorin or any similar life loss.
For a bit of draw an option is Mentor of the Meek will help out with your skullclamp.
Just a few ideas. Will mull over my decks later to see what other things I have floating around.
if you kill Hazezon before the sand tokens come into play, the tokens will come into play and stay indefinitely, so assuming you don't need a 2/4 beater for some reason, its best to sacrifice him somehow.
better yet, copy him before the tokens come into play. (dual nature anyone?)
D'oh just read the card rulings. Would have helped if I did that prior, no?

If you want to play straight beatdown though, Rhys would be the better option. Ghave is more like control/combolicious/bag of tricks kind of dealio.
Which pretty much sums up my goal - straight out token army. By no means am I putting down Ghave for what he does but I'm not looking for the combo route.
You'd want Hazezon to die, before the effect triggers. Also sliver queen is a viable option for a tokens deck, giving you access to all of these generals and more, just be sure to tell people you aren't playing slivers so they dont head hunt you.
Unless I'm reading it wrong, why would that matter? Hazezon dies and all tokens with it so even if you have to wait until that second turn if I don't have a haste effect on my new midget army they can still bury/kill/blink/etc the general to remove the army and repeat the process from square one?
Sliver Queen would be interesting but for my first EDH deck I don't know if I'm brave enough to branch off into a penta-color
Enchantments like Asceticism and Privileged Position should help you keep threats on the field should you feel like you need them.
Thanks for the suggestions, definitely will include that.

I use Ghave more as a token dispenser/safe then a beater.
That was my initial thought process but the high casting cost scared me off a bit in case of concurrent deaths/removal.

No one likes Hazezon Tamar?
:|
Checked it out and honestly way too much of a delay. I don't know many people that would allow a delay of one/two turns (with/without haste respectively) with no type of reaction on a small token army which would give plenty of time to remove the tokens or Hazezon Tamar himself
If Rhys doesn't immediately hit as a threat in the minds of those I play with I think I like that route. Rith looks interesting to say the least but I don't have enough in red or interest in obtaining much in that color. Wicked mechanic on it though.
Is there any sense in adding a few equipments in to beef up Rhys a bit for evasion or occasional swinging with his token army? Or does he come off as not enough of a threat to consistently wipe off the board upon entry? The Primer didn't have much on that topic.
Noted. Thank you for the quick reply on that. I'm too afraid of being overly reliant on my general in the case of Ghave whereas with Rhys the doubling mechanic isn't solely from his ability. I always enjoyed the idea of swarming someone with token induced poke death.
Been reading up for quite some time on the primers available for these two generals and I can't really come to a conclusion for what the better option would be. New to the format and as a result bought the 5 precon decks to give myself supplies. I play with a casual group that doesn't approve of infinite combo's.
Pro's
1. An extra source of a doubling season-esque ability which given the tokens involved
2. The ability to provide a token in the event of a sweep.
3. Turn 1 play in almost all cases
Con's
1. Limited to two colors. (not really sure if I can categorize this as a con)
2. No evasion on the general
3. Squishy.
Pro's
1. Storage ability when combined with Skullbriar in response to a sweeper
2. Access to black and more tutors as a result of
3. Capable of being beefed up to prevent death via /insert red damage spell etc
4. Requires less reliance on the general for the majority of the token generation
Con's
1. Higher mana cost that will make casting more difficult from multiple sweeps
2. Requires more +1/+1 counter mechanics to remain playable through the game
On a side note how effective is life gain in combination with this in the form of Soul Warden or Essence Warden as long as I can provide tokens with some form of evasion in the form of flying/indestructible to prevent general damage or just chump blockers in general?
I'm still working on a skeleton but I can't go much further until I see what to branch out with as far as if I'll have a third color or not
