Ya know, I was seriously on the fence whether or not I wanted to buy a box of this, but a buddy of mine made a comment that pushed me over the fence into the "hell yeah, let's do this!". He reminded me that when it comes right down to it, this is just a game. Yes, it's expensive, and yes sometimes WOTC does stuff that really perturbs us (ie the mythic dragons, limited availability etc), but at the end of the day we play magic because we enjoy it. I'm going to take my box that I was lucky enough to pick up from my local lgs for $220 and draft it with a bunch of my friends who couldn't afford to buy it themselves. And we're going to have a blast doing it. And when we're done, I'm going to sleeve up the entire box and repack it into 15 card packs and turn it into a cube that we can draft over and over again. I'm super excited about this set and cannot wait to be able to share this w my friends. Because its going to be FUN.

I already pre-ordered my playset. This is the only card outside of the mythics, crypt ghast, and medic that I felt I needed to make sure I had four of immediately. It just makes your opponents decisions during combat that much more difficult. Is he going to give it first strike, am I going to take 3+ to the face (if they block it with something that will kill it), is it going to not only kill the thing that it's blocking or blocked, but something ELSE as well (though this really shouldn't happen if your opponent is good enough to play around something like that).

So I picked this up a few weeks ago, and I've been trying to find some information on it. It's got one full square cut corner and the rest are cut at an angle (no rounded corners at all). Basically, is it worth anything more than the $12 I paid for it?

    Thanks!

I was playing a local modern event and was playing against a Second Breakfast deck. Turn four or five the guy manages to pull off the second sunrise combo twice. So after ten minutes of comboing off he flips through his hand, looks at his graveyard, flips through his hand again, looks at his graveyard, sits there and stares at his hand some more. I'm sitting across from him with my chin in my hand waiting to be combo killed, and he finally just scoops. I'm pretty sure my face was the equivalent of "WTF?". It was the most anti-climatic game of magic I've ever played.

Second game I side in all three of my Slaughter Games and manage to cast one turn four, naming Second Sunrise. He stares at it, says "that's good", scoops and gets up.

    It's Predator Ooze Wink

And standard is just fine. I'm so happy I don't have to play mirror after mirror. That's boring and unfun. While I'll agree that modern is an overall more enjoyable format, standard does offer a nicely diverse meta right now.

So, activate his ability with an opponent's undying trigger on the stack, kills the opponent's undying creature, right? Since the undying trigger will see the +1/+1 counter that now resides on the creature? Or can you not target it at that point because it already died?

I'd imagine you'd have to do it after blockers have been declared, but before combat damage resolves?

Hey all, I'm somewhat new to the format and I'm trying to put together my second modern deck. I already built tron and was looking for something a little more standard aggro. I really liked the offensive capabilities of the boros decks, but my meta is filled with combo decks (scapeshift, eggs and storm) so I also wanted a permission package main deck to be able to fight through that as well.

Here's what I have so far. Please note that these card numbers aren't correct, and the deck as is is more than 60 cards. This is just because it's under construction.

The sideboard is very much all over the place.

I'm also thinking of swapping the plated geopede or lynx main deck with Snapcaster.

I'm also wanted some sort of card draw package, but I didn't know what to try. I was debating between Think Twice, Telling Time and Azorious Charm. I'm figuring that I'm going to be dumping my hand pretty quickly so I either needed something to do with my mana (hence the colonnade) or be able to refill my hand.

So, with Horobi, Death's Wail on the board, can I use Ghave, Guru of Spores abilities to basically machine gun down any creature on the board that I want? (Within the limits of my available mana and sacrificial creatures)

I might be a bit late to party here, but I just wanted to share my story about how I came upon a CA (well, half a CA anyway).

One of the few LGS I regularly shop at let me know that they were getting three copies of the Arsenal in. I asked the owner how he was planning on distributing them and if he was going to sell them anywhere near MSRP. He told me that they had something special in mind for them.

So about a week later I'm back at the shop and I talked to the owner again about the Arsenal, and he informed me that they were going to do a "pauper crap commons" draft tournament and the winners would have the opportunity to buy the Arsenal for the $75 msrp. Basically, he had a lot of crappy bulk commons sitting around that he needed to get out of the shop and thought this would be a fun, unique way of getting rid of them. I thought it sounded really fun so I made plans to go.

The day of the event had 28 people show up for the tournament, so we were split into three pods of 10, 10 and 8. We were each given a stack of 60 cards from all sorts of different sets (even went back to Ice Age, Homelands, Fallen Empires all the through to M13). So we'd split the stack into 4 15 cards "packs" and draft them like you would normally. It was really fun trying to figure out some kind of synergy with cards from 30+ different sets. I ended up drafting a R/G stompy aggro and making the finals of my pod.

The store had three CAs for sale, so each person who won their pod could buy the Arsenal allocated for their pod. The guy I was playing against in the finals was a super nice guy (he was there with his son, who was also playing in the tournament), and we ended up agreeing that we'd just split the Arsenal (and the $75 price tag. With Christmas coming up, I really didnt have $75 to drop currently) and we'd draft it after the match with the person who won the match getting first pick. I ended up winning two pretty one sided games and got my hands on a foil sylvan library for first place (along with 8 other of the regular sized cards, 5 of the oversized cards, and half the sleeves). I let his son have the life counter (as I'm not really a fan, and I have an old school inquest counter for commander).

Overall it was a great experience. Got to play with some cards I've never even seen before, had a great time, got to meet some really cool people, and I took home some awesomely rare cards that I'm going to stick in my commander deck.

As much as I want the effect, I still hesitate. Slaughter Games is really the only card I feel I would ever name for it...

But you'd also be able to hit thrag, Olivia, entreat, liliana, sublime, unburial rites, gravecrawler (from the bin), etc. The card id most want to use it for is Rakdos' Return. That card was back breaking late game when I had used up the last of my in hand counters.

Has anyone given Nevermore any consideration? Shutting down an opp's ability to even cast the best card in their deck seems pretty good. Basically a slaughter games for our deck. Saw the card in some scg article and it seemed like it might be worth testing.

Alright, so here's the deck that I'm thinking about taking to gameday

That's 59 cards main deck. I'm trying to decide if I want to just run the full four Resto Angels or not. Any advice would be appreciated.

I think I'm in the minority on this, but I refuse to play Essence Scatter. I threw in Syncopate instead, and found it to be amazing. Sometimes it's not a creature I want to counter, and sometimes I prefer that card to be exiled. Like Lingering Souls or some annoying little zombie. Or if I go against a Reanimator deck.

Oddly enough, though, I'm okay with having Negate in my SB. It's backwards.

I don't know, I like it for the card draw. Not just the bounce ability. I've yet to use the lifelink.

I'm still running 3 Syncopate in the mb, along with a single Dissipate. Maybe I'll switch the fourth Charm out for another Dissipate instead. Forgot about those darned lingering souls. And now that I think about it, it's weird that my esper opp never played any...
