Not sure if this belongs here or the standard thread, but the new clash pack just cut the legs out from underneath Collected Company and Windswept Heath.

What do you mean by "Cut the legs out from Underneath". Are you saying these cards (Collected Company and Windswept Heath) are going to drop or rise?

    Lol, I found it.
This is the pic he sent. It shows them as proxies. I typed Goyf playset into google and it found that image. You can also type MTG PROXIES MAGIC THE GATHERING-Playset of 4 Tarmogoyf and scroll down.

Also, I have some more updates.
I just want to remind everyone that when we were negotiating, he was always ask for pics of my Merfolk, planeswalkers and then "everything" together. Again, this was pretty annoying because I know he doesn't have anything (And couldn't provide any pics himself) I was wondering why he would care for pics after I had "sent"

Well, yesterday I found out why.

First, this guy's name is Gabriel Verge.

Yesterday, I saw Gabriel had responded to another FB users's (We'll call him Rick) trade post, showing Zen Full art lands. I pm'ed him asking what Gabe had offered him for his lands. Rick said he offered a bunch of Planeswalkers. I asked him if he remembered what PW he offered. Rick says Gabe sent him some pics of the 'Walkers and forwarded me 2 pics of Planeswalkers.

The second Pic looked REALLY familiar. Why? OH! Because it was the pic I sent to Gabe of my planeswalkers that I had agreed to send him.

Along with the pic, Gabe said this. "Oh, I've got some more PW's, Let me pull them out of my deck. There" and then sent the pic of the walkers.

I told Rick to follow up with Gabe and ask for a current pic. In the meantime, I created a post alerting the community and admins of a potential Scammer.

Later in the day, when I got home from work, a few interesting things happened.

    1. Gabriel saw the post and asked if it was about him. He also asked if I had "REALLY" sent the cards, because if I had not, he was going to "recall" his Goyfs so he could sell them to get the cards he needed. (thinking..why didn't you just do that in the first place).

    2. Rick got a pm from Gabe. Guess what? Gabe's camera is broken, but he ensures Rick that "still has" the cards and they're in Good condition.

    3. Rick forwards his PM's that I told the admin about. The admin says "Maybe he's just jumping the gun". I also sent her most of my pm's and told her there would be a "Million" red flags. She said she only noticed 3; The lack of a camera, the lost tracking number and resistance to using a Middleman. I felt a little defeated, but honestly, until Rick forwarded my pic of my planewalkers, I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I brought this up too, and reminded her that Gabe claimed he currently owned the cards. She kinda fell back to the "jumped the gun" reasoning, but did note that used the present tense.

Still she didn't seem completely convinced, but said she wouldn't be surprised if he was a scammer. (Really?! I would be surprised if he WASN'T a scammer)

However, she apparently started asking him questions and got annoyed because he would delay in answering them, then ask her a question and starting counting to 100...make her feel really annoyed.
So she banned him for being an "*******", and told me to notify her if I ever received the Goyfs, and if not, they would proceed with futher bannings and add him to their Scammers list.

    "I have sent"

Even though you never agreed to the trade?

Sounds like a last ditch effort to pull off the con.

Well, I did "Agree" to do a trade with him. I really hate lying and tricking people, but since he's obviously trying to run a scam on me, I don't mind as much. I told him I would pack it up and send it with my wife to work tomorrow. Honestly, I want to give him the slight benefit of the doubt. If I end up getting a play-set of real goyfs, then I'll apologize and send him a good amount of extra cards he needs.

Also, in the middle of the day yesterday, he said he wanted another card and more pics of my Planeswalkers. Obviously, I had to delay my shipping to go get more pics and throw in the extra cards

But yes, regardless, I'm not sending anything until I get the Goyfs and prove their real.

I do have a question though.

1 He said he would "recall his shipment". I don't know exactly where he lives, but it's somewhere in Canada, and it seems to be in the middle of nowhere. Is it even possible to "retract" a shipment?

    2.

Also, I wanted to share some other red flags.

    1. When he first sent the pic of 4 Goys, I told him I already had one and really only needed 3. But if I could come up with enough for 4, I would take them. He says "Yeah, go with 4 so you have a playset" I responded..."Well, I already have one.."

    2. He "NEEDS" these cards for a EDH tourney, in his own words.. "well yes, i really need those merfolk for a huge edh torny, first place is a mm15 boster box and 2 dragons bosterbox and 3 dragons fatpack, so i really need those cards"

and yet the cards he asking for are....

    Sygg, River Guide
    Lord of the Atlantis
    Adaptive Automaton
    Master of the Pearl Trident
    Merfolk Sovereign
    Merrow Reejerey
    Coralhelm Commander

    Tideshaper Mystic
    Cosi's Trickster
    Seahunter
    Merrow Harbinger
    Wanderwine Prophets
    Surgespanner
    Lullmage Mentor
    Thada Adel, Acquisitor
    Grimoire Thief
    Stonybrook Schoolmaster
    Waterspout Weavers
    Wake Thrasher
    Stonybrook Angler
    Simic Fluxmage
    Silvergill Douser
    Judge of Currents
    Shapesharer
    Streambed Aquitects
    Sigil Tracer
    Stonybrook Banneret
    Rootwater Thief
    Harpoon Sniper
    Wellgabber Apothecary
    Stormtide Leviathan
    Crib Swap
    Counterlash
    Brainstorm
    Boomerang
    Ghostway
    Saving Grasp
    Stream of Unconsciousness
    Safe Passage
    Into the Roil
    Spare from Evil
    Purify the Grave
    Blue Sun's Zenith
    Render Silent
    Dissipate
    Rewind
    Sage's Dousing
    Rebuke
    Essence Scatter
    Gitaxian Probe
    Devastation Tide
    Revoke Existence
    Supreme Verdict
    Stolen Identity
    Time Reversal
    Aquitect's Will
    Summon the School
    Spreading Seas
    Merrow Commerce
    Recumbent Bliss
    Stony Silence
    Door of Destinies
    Diviner's Wand
    Ring of Evos Isle
    Ajani Goldmane
    Haunted Fengraf
    Ghost Quarter
    Terramorphic Expanse
    Hallowed Fountain
    Vivid Creek
    Wanderwine Hub
    Seachome Coast
    Glacial Fortress

Seems like a legit merfolk deck, but idk...probably not the type that would win an EDH tourney. And if you don't have cards like dissipate, Terramorphic Expanse, Essence Scatter, etc..all those other bulk cards, then either you haven't been playing that long, or you live near an LGS which is hosting a tournament with Hundreds of dollars of prizes, but doesn't sell singles?

In fact, I would like to post the whole convo. I might try to get some screenshots of it.

    Hey everyone,
Not even sure why I'm posting this, I guess it's a "what would you do" type scenario.

Basically, I'm entertaining a potentially awesome trade, but I believe it's from a person trying to scam me.

A few ago, I posted some Elves stuff I was trying to unload on an MTG FB trade page. I had some kid msg me telling me they didn't want my elves, but wanted to know what else I might have. I asked what he had, and he told me a playset of Goyfs and immediately sent a pic.

I asked what he was interested in, and he said "sealed product, Merfolk, Slivers, Walkers..as well as Bulk Commons and uncommons" I immediately regretted not trading my elves for a sealed set of Commander decks that I had been offered earlier that day. I felt I wouldn't have enough sealed product and other stuff to trade for a playset of Goyfs.

I asked how much in value he wanted and he said "around $500 in value, because I'm trying to get rid of them". Initially, I didn't think much of the value, but it definitely sounded like a good deal, if ONLY I could find enough in value to make an offer...and get rid of some bulk too, Wow, what a deal!! I told him I was definitely interested, I just had to sort through my stuff.

On a side note, he misspelled Planeswalkers as "plainswalkers". I messed around with him and said I probably didn't have any plainswalkers since WOTC only made a few and they were all in older sets, but I might have "Righteous Avengers" and "Zodiac Rooster". He responded saying, "Yeah, I want those". I told him I could also send "Graceful Antelope". He said he had never heard of him before, but he sounds cool. I told him to look him up. He did and admitted he had no idea there were plainswalkers in the game. I didn't realize this at the time, but the fact that he just wants any card, even if he doesn't know when it is, seems like a minor red flag as well.

Also, I began to think about the value he was asking and realized it was only $125 per Goyf. This made me slightly suspicious, but I figured he hopefully didn't care as much about value and just wanted to get more playable, lower end stuff. I still had a concern in the back of my mind that his cards might be fake. I started feeling like the deal might be too good to be true and began to wonder what risks I might face if we had to simulsend.

This is my first minor red flag

The next day (Father's Day),he's asking me if I have everything together yet. I told him I was busy since it was Father's day, and he sends me a huge list of mostly Bulk merfolk and asks if I can have ready by Wednesday, so we can ship together.
A lot of it was really common stuff that almost anyone would have, like Boomerang, Terramorphic Expanse, Brainstorm and a lot of Merfolk Commons/Uncommons and bulk rares like Blue Sun's Zenith. This is my second red flag. Not that I expect every noob to have these cards, but I can't help but wonder...How can you have a playset of Goyfs (from MM1), but not even have basic commons most players would be willing to give you for free?

Regardless, I tell him I'll get as much as I can and I started sorting through my stuff, promising lots of goodies in hopes he didn't change his mind or get another offer. I even told him I could trade with local friends. I pm'ed him again asking about his refs and for an email so I can send him a list. He doesn't respond for a few days, but finally comes back and said he was camping (I had grown concerned he was going to change his mind). This definitely seemed legit as I had "friended" him on FB in order to message him, and he had lots of pics of him and his HS friends going camping.

I asked if he had any refs and he said he had 0. I told him that might meant he would have to send First, but he said he would prefer not to. I didn't say much more because I didn't want to scare him off. I figured I could throw in a deal sweetener once I sent my initial offer, and hopefully negotiate something he would be happy with, especially since it was a good deal for me regardless. He doesn't even ask about any list or offer, but seems really impatient on getting both of our respective ends shipped "together"

Yesterday, I finally catch him online to negotiate our deal. I tell him I'll an offer via email later and we'll get things worked out. He says "Sweet" and immediately sends me his postal address and asks about sending today (even though it's already after 6pm EST). At this point, I'm more than a little suspicious.

I finally send him my offer. However, since I wasn't sure how much bulk filler he would want or consider fair, I only had about $300 in value so far (including some high end stuff) I intentionally left a blank amount to see how he would react.

Once he receives it, it takes him about 30sec - 1min to respond saying.. "Yep, looks great! Can you send today?!" At this point, I've got a million alarms going off in my head. I'm thinking, "okay, so this guy initially wants $500 for his goyfs, I send him an offer with only $300 and he accepts immediately. Wow! definitely too good to be true.

Obviously, at this point, I know this is either the most naïve "doesn't care about Value" person alive or a pretty obvious scammer. However, I play along. I told him the post offices are closed for the day, and the earliest I could send would be tomorrow. He says, great! I'll send tomorrow. I ask him if he'll be sending with tracking and I ask if he take a close-up picture with the date on it.

He says he can't send another pic because the camera on his phone is broken. I asked him to borrow a phone from someone or his parents (on his profile, he's a HS 16yr old). He says they don't have a phone/camera that can take pics.

This is ANOTHER HUGE red flag....it's hilarious really. You've got a playset of Goyfs, that you would have HAD to spend at least $500-$600 to get, you're trading them for $300 in jank, but you're from a low income family, and your parents don't even have cameras on their phones?

Ofc, he later asks for pics of my stuff, which I gladly send to him. After I provided pics, I suggested that he send first, since I had Refs and current pics, and he had neither. Additionally, I offered some bonus in value if he did so. He refused, said his parents wouldn't allow it, because he'd been ripped off before.
When I asked what/how he got ripped off (like what he lost) he said he didn't remember.

I suggested we do a trade through a third-party, such as the FB Admin. He said his parents wouldn't allow that. I told him that was the safest and most secure way to send, especially for trades of high value. He said he couldn't break his parents rules, even though he didn't have a reason for those rules.

It seems pretty apparent to me that this is using a pic of Goyfs, or fake Goyfs to try and lure me into sending MTG stuff for him. I'm definitely not sending my end until I receive his. The only faint glimmer of hope is that the fact that he really does seem worried about me sending my end.

I guess my question is, what would you do in this trade?
    1. Would you pretend to send your end on the off chance he sent what he promised and was just paranoid about sending high value stuff? Obviously, I would apologize and send extra stuff
    2. Would you refuse to send unless he sent first, and miss out on the slight chance he's not a con artist?
    3. Also, assuming you don't send but never receive the cards he promised to send, would you report the admin? OR even before that to alert them of a potential scammer.

Update After typing up this section and posting it in another forum, he claims to have sent and asked if I had sent mine yet. I told him I had delayed shipping to provide him with more pics of the cards as well as few extra throw-ins he had requested. I also told him I couldn't send today because I had a surprise family dinner my dad planned for us (both were true). He said I should tomorrow. Later he hopped on and said if I didn't send by Monday he would demand I send Express or he would retract his shipment. I asked why he was in such a hurry. He explains that he needs the Merfolk for his EDH deck for an upcoming tourney. The tourney is in 2 weeks and has prize support like a box of MMA2, Dragons, etc.

I've been attempting to build a Mono-red RDW deck. It appears the deck may not be as strong as I was hoping. It is better if I splash G for an R/G Variant, or BW for a Mardu variant? What do you guys think?

I would keep the cash, most of the cards are going downwards already and will continue to drop.

True, but even I sell only half the cards, I'll get my money back (those prices are TCGlow). I'm intending to use a few, sit on a few and flip the rest asap. And for the trade value it's a definite winner. Well, I did buy it, so I took a gamble. As long as I make $50 back or get some good trades, I'll be happy. I guess we'll see how it plays out.

Will Nourishing Shoal Stick @ $7? I just agreed to send one out on Pucatrade yesterday, when it was .60. It's still showing @ .60 on most sites, but I'm concerned...I guess I just lost $6?

Idk, that kinda sucks. Does anyone know if I'll get more credit on Pucatrade if the price goes up while the card is in transit?

So, which cards do you think still have room to grow...vs those that have already hit their peak, or will be dropping soon..

    Recently, we've seen increases in

    Huntmaster of the Fells
    Snapcaster Mage
    Heritage Druid
    Deceiver Exarch
    Kitchen Finks
    Blood Moon
    Cavern of Souls
    Sigarda, Host of Herons
    Garruk, relentless

...All the Modern Master reprints (should rise soon?)

I'm also wondering if I sold off my Zen Fetches too soon. Will they rise again before they drop? (they are confirmed to be reprinted, right?)
and all the others Modern Staples (regretfully, I'm not really aware of all the popular Modern cards, aside from what got printed in the MM sets)

What cards are still worth acquiring as they continue to rise?
