In a nutshell the deck would run lots of card drawing durdles/bounces. The "ideal" play would be a t4-6 win playing out thusly;
t2 Heartless Summoning
t3 Jaces Archivist
t4 Cons. Sphinx
This is where the combo comes in. Obviously you want to have your opponent holding a few cards or for you to be at 5-6 cards yourself.
Activate Archivist EoT. Assuming a player had 6 cards: You draw 6 they draw 6 - Sphinx triggers - you draw an additional 12 cards.
t5 18 cards in hand (hopefully you drew a lab maniac since you've already almost gone through half your deck) Activate Archivist. Each player draws 16 triggering a 32 card (MAY) draw off of cons sphinx. Assuming you were able to successfully drop a maniac (for ) you have 4 mana left on the board - this allows you to protect your combo with counters or durdle for the final card draw to win yourself the game.
It could be played without :symb:, it just slows down the combo and makes the deck more bounce dependent. You can also play the deck with spellskites. A 0/3 body for that redirects threats to the combo is golden. If the lab maniac combo gets threatened you can always play maindeck elixir of immortality and EASILY mill out your opponent.
Thoughts?
I suggest Black, specifically for Liliana, Forgotten Alchemy, Necrotic Ooze, and a 1 of Mirror-Mad Phantasm, so that when it is in the yard, you activate ooze, milling yourself out.
How about some real promos, Wizards? Like here is a short list of commons and uncommons from INN that are going to see play and would have made much better promos:
Commons:
Forbidden Alchemy
Think Twice
Victim of Night
Ancient Grudge
Brimstone Volley
Mulch
Uncommons:
Invisible Stalker
Memory's Journey
Runic Repetition
Unburial Rites
Boneyard Wurm
Bramblecrush
Make a Wish
Ghost Quarter
Guarantee you that we don't see any of these as promos, or we don't see them as promos until August 2013 right as they rotate.
While I agree with you that the promos are jank, most of the other cards you listed are equally bad. Here's my list:
Commons:
Forbidden Alchemy
Think Twice
Ancient Grudge
Brimstone Volley
Feeling of Dread
Dead Weight
Avacyn's Pilgrim
Geistflame
Traitorous Blood
Travel Preparations
Traveler's Amulet
Uncommons:
Invisible Stalker
Unburial Rites
Bramblecrush
Ghost Quarter
Fiend Hunter(This seems like a no brainer)
Midnight Haunting
Dissipate
Hamlet Captain
Burning Vengeance
Reckless Waif
mind control, kor duelist, vampire nighthawk, kor firewalker, skinrender, master's call, and shrine of burning rage have all been good (imo) and gateway promo's since path
LOL at Mind Control, Kor Duelist, and Master's Call. Because those saw Top 8 Lists.
Please stop complaining when every card is not tier 1 tournament worthy. Especially Gateway promos, which are not for you. Hardcore tournament players already ruined FNM because good cards were being made for it, I don't want to see you ruining any other tournaments.
LOL, when was the last "Tier 1" FNM card that was in Standard?
For Shambling Swarm: Wizards will never put +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters in the same set, its just the way theyve always been.
I suggest Black, specifically for Liliana, Forgotten Alchemy, Necrotic Ooze, and a 1 of Mirror-Mad Phantasm, so that when it is in the yard, you activate ooze, milling yourself out.
Clearly you never learned to play removal.
