First step towards making Modern a good format: unban all banned cards that are legal in Legacy.

Second step: Make a "Modern Masters 2" set full of reprints of Legacy staples not currently in Modern and make them Modern legal.

TADA! Awesome well balanced format with just a little worse mana bases than Legacy. The only 1 format I would want to play.

So we make modern into legacy lite and reprint a bunch of stuff to destroy the value of people's collections just to create your dream format. Makes sense.

So what you're saying is that you want to play Legacy. Why not do that?

I bet because he can't afford the legacy staples without having them being reprinted in his "Modern Masters 2."

I've noticed from testing that bigwithdraw's list does substantially better against decks like Jund and Pod (which will probably still take up quite a bit of the post-GTC meta), as it runs fewer creatures (they can be blocked or removed, so they deal 0-2 damage over the course of a game quite often against those decks) and Searing Blaze is yet another way to fry Deathrite Shaman's sorry butt (and interrupt creature-based combos in a pinch). The additional explosiveness 4 Shard Volley brings is also big.

I still like Black because Bump in the Night is that explosive, and it helps close out games that well. Boros Charm has been awesome, though (4 damage at instant speed is so good--opponents become a lot more cowardly when they realize they can't drop to 4 life, and combo is stuck trying to go off even earlier), so I'm currently on RBW.

mm...im gonna try out lanterns build with the devils tonight. if it does well, i might have to spend some resources on getting devils =/

mm, i guess thats the reason i run it too and since im using white for boros charm already, might as well. before boros charm got announced, people told me to play hellspark and stuff but it just seems kinda useless after turn 3 ish (this was when everyone played jund and has a big goyf around turn 3)

so i tried RWB burn for a few days against ppl at my LGS and the results were pretty bad...i played a list loosely based on lantern's list here...
now i consider myself to be a fairly new player at constructed (and mtg in general...) and im sure i made some play mistakes but my win rate has dramatically decreased from when i used big's list that he top 32'd gp toronto with right here, with the exception of switching the 4th shard volley to a thunderous wrath.
not too sure what im doing wrong and my friends are saying thats about as far as a burn deck can go. they recommend that i drop black altogether =/

lantern, do you find the vexing devils to be very good? i didnt run any because i dont have any lol

and ya, if no swamp and plains then of course ill be switching 2 flats to 2 more tarns.

I think it should actually be Ronom Unicorn. (or Kami of Ancient Law).

Keening Apparation is the main reason I'd want to be in white. Boros Charm is very, very good, but it's not really worth the splash on its own. Being able to bring in Keening Apparations when you suspect Leyline of Sanctity is awesome. It means you actually have an out to Leyline that isn't dead if they don't have it or don't turn 0 it.

but couldnt they remove the creature before they drop their leyline in that case?

ARANFAN- maybe try to co make it with texeven?

Sooooooo.... I havent lost yet. I even killed soul sisters with out breaking a sweat...

Boros and skull crack has been halerious. I just killed a tron player with 3 wurm coils out. Fantastic.

Notes: Twrath is my pet card. It makes me feel fun to play it. If I was rocking a PTQ Id change it with a 1 cmc card. I've had 0 problems with the manabase. So long as your smart and priortize your colored spells first (play bump over spike as soon as you can) your fine!

mm sounds cool! is there a reason for running keening apparition instead of war priest of thune or erase?

guess ill run big's deck and make changes as necessary afterwards.

big thanks to everyone for input! =)

so what would be considered the hardest matchup for the burn deck (aside from the near-impossible soul sister decks)?
and how do we usually lose, just land-flooding..?

Ryu is you are running white and wurmcoil is a big issue for you, throw some Path to Exiles in. Same with zoo and jund, although thier creature are allot easier to deal with then a wurmcoil. They are usually smaller on your turn compared to theirs.

my apologies, i completely missed ur post.
but paths in main though? i dont really wanna draw something that wont deal damage... =S

    Quote from DOLZero
Here is the thing about that turn 3 wurmcoil. There is only one deck in the format that can drop a wurmcoil on turn 3, and it's not even a popular deck. You are looking at maybe 5% chance of running into tron in the first place. Then if you do, they have to have the nuts draw to get it. My advice is to not even worry about it. True, flames and skullcrack can both negate the life gain, so we should be solid in the event that it actually happens.

o is it only 5%? maybe its a local meta thing...quite a few tron guys at the LGS i visit. stores all out of urza lands hahaha

had a chat with my friends and they said if i play burn ill just lose to everything =/ but it seems like its possible to do well...it might just take a while because im so out of practice with the game lol

hmm so i guess searing blaze sounds like a must because there are so many creatures to have to deal with in the current meta and as long as i can time landfall properly, it shouldnt be too bad. itll take me some practice and learning what hands to keep and what to not be afraid to mull.
also, it sounds like they should be dead by turn 4~5 ish? turn 3 wurmcoil, turn 4 swing, stall a turn with blood hand / skullcrack and win?

big - hey, i had a few questions and was wondering if you could enlighten me.
im just coming back to playing magic after taking a break for a while of just trading and stuff. never really played modern before (used to play a bit of legacy) and wanted to try burn (either RW after gatecrash comes out or RWB). most of my friends told me dont do it dont do it play zoo or splinter twin instead.
anyway, how exactly would i deal with a turn 3 wurmcoil from tron or the crazy creatures of zoo and jund? sorry for the really broad question =S

Hi everyone, my friend who I pool cards with wanted to make an EDH deck with Bruna, Light of Alabaster as general. Now, neither of us have ever made an EDH before...if it was up to me I'd probably take someone from 3 kingdoms as general...

anyway, would anyone be able to recommend what would go well in his deck? so far we came up with these:

    angelic destiny
    Eldrazi conscription
    Celestial Mantle
    tundra
    *shrug*

any input would be greatly appreciated! thanks! Grin
