A New and Exciting Beginning

The End of an Era
  • posted a message on Sad news of Daniel Fox
I am writing with very sad news. Daniel passed away on 2/22. Eve and I are heart broken as you can imagine. He had a bad cough that started to make him have trouble breathing and he was spitting up blood. He went to the LF Hospital er. They found his blood sugar was high. He was transferred to Albany Med. He deteriorated quickly. They are trying to find out why. Please share this with others in the Magic community. I am sure he will be deeply missed within this community. He was always wanting to help out and answer questions and learn more about the game. He was always a wonderful husband and daddy. Family was everything to him. We miss him so much.

We are having a celebration of his life at Moreland Park in Little Falls NY May 27th at 2pm. Any one interested is welcome. It will be a vegan potluck. Please bring a vegan dish to share containing no animal products. Please dress in renaissance style clothing or black and purple like we had at our wedding. There will be dances and singing in his honor and sharing of memories. There will be no funeral. Please share this with anyone that would want to know.

No. "you" is still "you", not your teammate.

Also, 2HG starts with 30 life. Defiant Bloodlord doesn't deal damage, it causes life loss.

To be clear, you do follow the instructions in the order written. However, in your case, it seems as if you're asking if you can scry before drawing. You cannot for the reason in comment #2.

I would say no. You were not the player "allowed to look at a card exiled face down", your opponent was. You just happened to be controlling that player at the time.

No. Temporal Mastery is exiled because it says so on the card. Nothing on Capture of Jingzhou says to exile it, so you don't.

Chandra doesn't specify casting without paying a mana cost (not that it would matter for emerge)
You cannot use emerge if you're casting a spell without paying its mana cost, because emerge is an alternative cost. Otherwise you are correct.

I know, but my phrasing was bad in that sentence. The thing that was not mattering was whether the spell was cast for its emerge cost or not, since emerge is largely a cost reduction mechanic anyways.
Emerge is not a cost reduction, it's an alternative cost. This is the exact reason that it doesn't work with "without paying its mana cost", because that's an alternative cost too and you can only apply one alternative cost to a spell.

This should help alleviate some confusion:

I had to look up what you're talking about. They don't seem any different than any other perfect fits except for the color. If that's the case, then I don't see any problem with them. Ultimately, it's up to the HJ and my opinion is irrelevant. If you're ever unsure if a card/sleeve is ok to play, always check with the HJ before the event starts.

What you should do is call a judge. If the TO (Tournament Organizer) has not designated a HJ (Head Judge), then it defaults to him/her.

The FOW was cast and needs to go to the graveyard. The blue card remains exiled and the player lost 1 life. As previous posts indicated, the casting of FOW was not illegal, he simply made a bad play. If he continues to refuse, he is Cheating at this point. That's a DQ.

It's important to note that your opponent cannot rush into combat without giving you priority first. If they declare attackers without giving any other indication that they've moved to the Combat Phase, you may back the game up to the Beginning of Combat Step to cast Nibils of Frost.

    Call a judge. Most likely...

    Competitive REL:
Your opponent gets a Warning for Hidden Card Error. They reveal their hand and you choose a card from it. This card is treated as the drawn card and is returned to their library. If the card was previously unknown, the library is shuffled.

    Regular REL:
A random card is taken from their hand and placed back on top of the library.

The game then proceeds with his draw spell on the stack. You may counter it at this point.

    1) Definitely not missed. You could be casting your counter while the triggers are still on the stack. If you intend to wait for the triggers to resolve before casting your counter, you need to specify this (basically reminding your opponent about the triggers).

    2) You missed it. TITI trigger must resolve before the Path does. If you resolve the Path, you're already past the point where the TITI trigger should have resolved.

A trigger is missed when it would have a visible effect on the game state, or needs targets to be declared (and you don't show awareness of either).

  • posted a message on TO and head judge.
I would suggest politely talking to the TO, explain your rules knowledge (perhaps mention that you had passed the Rules Advisor test when it existed), and ask if he minds you being the HJ. One of my friends has a small shop. He is, self admittedly, not very good with the rules. He loves it when he has a knowledge player(s) around.

Well....considering Ixidron says "nontoken creatures", nothing happens to the tokens.

Your brother is correct. A "nonland" card is any card that is not a Land.
