I want to like it because the art, name, and flavor all scream "you like this" to me. But it just looks so slow... I hate when I have to decide between playing a card I like and a card that's good. Maybe with a Thousand-Year Elixir out it could do something in casual games.

FTV: 20 is my only FTV but I thought the box was pretty cool myself. I like the effect on it and the colors.

Yes, they should be strictly better than the original duals which they have never reprinted for power level reasons.

It's like I'm taking crazy pills.

Except the original duals are fetchable and these are not so strictly better is not true. In fact these are far worse for that very reason. I like scry as much as the next person but it doesn't match the ability to fetch.

As someone who primarily plays Pauper I'm getting a kick out of this thread.

Very surprised that Guildgate + Scry 1 = Rare though. If they were uncommons I think they would be better received. The art on them is really good. Really like Temple of Silence. Feels super creepy.

Yep. The art is great and the mechanic is fine, but I never want to open one as my rare. Uncommon would have been the ideal spot for these.

People are as entitled to healthcare as people are entitled to food in the wilderness. Proclaiming that the world owes you something you didn't earn is the morality of death

Except we aren't in a wilderness, we are in a civilized society and a wealth one at that. We can afford to make sure that people can be taken care of so why the hell should we tolerate pain and suffering that doesn't need to happen?

I wouldn't call being trillions in debt wealthy. The fact we have a government that tries to print its way out of debt is silly, and letting that same government run healthcare is a mistake.

Throw one more "these lands should not be rare" comment onto the pile. Honestly I feel like these are about as disappointing as opening a lace would have been back in Alpha.

I think Jason Chan is an awesome artist

His art is good. Haven't heard great things about his personality though Slant I do think it's funny though that he got the most pushed planeswalker ever in Jace and now he's got this guy, another pushed planeswalker that is sure to shake things up.

Oh wow, so that art is Magma Jet? Excellent, I will definitely get a playset of them.

I like this card quite a lot; it has great art and a nice effect. For casual play I can see this being a great tool for decks like Angels who have a lot of expensive big creatures to get out. Mana ramp in a color like white is pretty strong I think. As for standard, wasn't there a white weenie deck at the world championships or one of the other major tournaments recently? I think this card could see some play in standard, if not in an established deck then in a deck that will come to exist after the set is out.

I wont be so sure. Rescue from the Underworld is pretty confusing, but a newcomer may ask himself "why should a enchantment that enchant my land remove and opponent creature from the game?" If not for NWO, i think its still about complexity reasons and because a 1 Mana removal would have been crazy in Limited if at common-uncommon.

Because the card tells you to and one of the earliest rules and new Magic player should learn is to do what the cards tell you to do. Grin Also what Melete said.

What was that? Oh god my wallet is on fire! Yup, Theros is going to burn a hole in my pocket with all these sweet cards.

Elspeth, Sun's Champion - I'm digging her as a 2 of in control decks. She instantly throws down 3 chump blockers or wipes out their fatties, and if you do ult her that emblem will do some serious work. I think she's a card that will definitely feel more powerful once people play with her more.
Underworld Cerebus - It's crazy good and I'm happy Rakdos players got a new treat to play with. The flavor is amazing, as is the case with most of the cards in this set so far, but I'm glad this amazing mythic is not in my colors because I won't have to worry about spending money on his insane price tag that's sure to come.
Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx - Oh boy oh boy! I think I'm in love with this card. Forget standard, I want this to power out my mono white angel deck pronto! Seriously, this card is ramp for any mono color deck and white especially loves this to get out all of its angels. I think I need to pick up a playset of Dawn Elemental now to put into my deck.
Thoughtseize - Oh happy day! This is a card I am so happy to see get reprinted because it may finally come down to a price that I can afford. I can finally start to shift my U/W stoneblade deck towards esper with thanks to this and I'm quite excited about that.
Voyage's End - First of all, I love that art. I also really like when simple effects get to scry. I can see this getting some play because getting to dig through your deck a little deeper as a bonus is always nice.
Read the Bones - Speaking of scry cards, this is a card! Scry 2, draw 2, lose 2 life. I'll take that trade any day of the week. It costs a little bit more than a Sign in Blood but I think the scry effect is worth it and the cost is more splashable which is great.
Commune with the Gods - This is an alright card. Not amazing, but not bad. Probably a limited card but who knows. I could see LSV calling this the "green impulse" on stream while drafting Grin
Rescue from the Underworld - Oh my, that flavor is something else. Solid card and I love that it's instant speed and happy to see that it's an uncommon to boot. Not sure how much play it will see since the creatures don't return until your upkeep and will be summoning sick but still a sweet card.
Rageblood Shaman - More minotaur love is not a bad thing! I like this card a lot; it's not quite the same level of awesome that Knight Exemplar is but it's still a solid card!
Cavern Lampad - Alright not the most exciting card, but it's a common that will probably be nice in limited and I for one am happy to see them push the complexity level of common a bit with bestow. Theros is an expert set and I don't mind complexity at any rarity outside of core sets.
Akroan Crusader - I like this guy. In limited he'll be a Young Pyromancer whose tokens have haste and only costs one mana. In constructed who knows but depending on what kind of enchantments we get this block he could be quite nice. And he's a common!
Chained to the Rocks - I like this flavor a lot! I don't like being forced into red so much, but it makes too much sense not to. I can just see a Polukranos being chained to a rock, lol.

I like the DD art for Polukranos more, I think it had a better angle to it. Still looks like an intimidating creature to face down though.

I typically don't like the art of modern Magic sets but most of these have been a refreshing change this time around and I like it a lot. I'm definitely excited about this block and the story of Theros. I love that flamespeaker art by Maciej Kuciara and am happy to see him drawing for Magic finally this year (I've used some of his artwork for custom cards because he's so talented).

It's nice art but I have to question why they chose to reprint Vindicate as a judge foil for a second time. It'd be nice to see it in another promo form.

I love the design of this so much. If ever a mechanic felt like it was bringing the game to life for me this would be it; the way the gods manifest through devotion is genius imho.
