The majority of cards in the sideboard for dredge are their to beat other hate cards. Pack rat really doesn't do that. Also as a one of and being a card you can't recur from the yard it is functionally useless unless it is in your opening hand and I don't think it's worth running multiples. It does fill the role of a discard outlet but at 2 mana to play and 3 to activate it makes it difficult. It also is a black card and while dredge is a jund colored deck (sometimes even with a blue splash) you have fewer black sources that can cast and activate pack rat. I also can't really see what matchups are made better by bringing it in.
One of the top 8 deck is ANT (the pilot posted a very excited message on the ant primer on source) and we know there was an omnitell mirror so that's 3/8.
What we have found in our resting is that it just gives you a way to close out the game. It gives you options. Vs decks with swords waiting until you either have to block or you have a grove up gives a shrouded blocker and if it eats a decay that's another decay that didn't hit a lock piece. I'm not sure on exact turns but it outpaced goyf reasonably well.
Sorry if there was confusion I'm not limited to those decks they were just examples of obscure decks or ones with high price points! Still thank you for the reply!
Hey guys, I'm looking for opinions on what second deck (ANT as the first) will allow me to have a deck that can do well in almost any meta (preferably more "evergreen decks". Assume budget is not an option (lands, shardless bug and 12post are all on the table) Thanks everyone! The list of decks below is not up to date so don't consider it a guideline or limit!
1. Storm
2. Dredge
3. Miracles
4. Delve
5. Phyrexian mana.
The reason I put dredge over storm is that without very strong yard hate dredge will run a train over your face. Storm is resilient to every form of hate which is why it tops, delve is very strong but usually fills a more supporting role.
I imagine something like this.
combo/midrange heavy meta: R/G
aggro/control(miracles) heavy meta: RUG
meta without graveyard hate: jund
2. Dredge
3. Miracles
4. Delve
5. Phyrexian mana.

Mechanics to keep an eye on: Gravestorm.
