    Quote from Dechs Kaison
My vote is one in a sea of millions; Pennsylvania is decided without me. By casting my vote at Gary Johnson, the vote is still documented and at the end of the day, it's one more vote from the last election that says "I'm fed up with the two parties." As long as people think that voting for a 3rd party is useless, it will remain that way. I'm putting my money where my mouth is and finally doing something about it. Next time around, I hope you join me.

For the record, Gary is very close to 5%, which is all it takes to receive equal funding from the government for his campaign.

    Quote from Surging Chaos
If you're going to go there, my vote for President doesn't matter in Oregon because Obama is virtually guaranteed to win the state. So I voted for Gary Johnson, especially since he is the candidate I agree the most with. I've got nothing to lose and everything to gain by voting for Johnson, especially since if Johnson gets 5% of the vote, he will qualify for federal funding in future campaigning. That will be an important step, especially since Johnson's fundraising is literally orders of magnitude less than Obama and Romney's fundraising numbers.

That's the spirit! I really don't like either major party candidate, but I'm still going to the polls and casting a vote for President. I know the guy I'm voting for (also Gary Johnson) isn't going to win, but every vote counts for something..

Plus, it''s not like the only thing on the ballot today is the Presidential election. Make sure you've read up on everything else you're voting for, and please don't blindly vote for bills you don't understand.

Because the first thing they did was cram a Marvel level into KH:3D.

What you speak of is possible, certainly, but I doubt it would happen. Disney seems to be smart about not just mindlessly mashing their properties together. More than that, unless my impression is off base, they are good about realizing, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. MtG is a money maker. Why would they screw with it?

    Thank you.

Disney isn't stupid. Stupid companies don't get to buy Hasbro (or LucasArts, or Marvel, or etc). If they bought Hasbro, there is no reason to believe they'd negatively influence Magic. Or make a crap crossover movie. A Jace & friends movie, maybe.

Okay.. coincidentally, over the last month I've rewatched the entirety of Buffy. They would get destroyed. I don't get how they're in 2nd in the poll. Ditto for Dracula (also 2nd!), which, while one of my favorite books I was forced to read, shows that Dracula's strength is approximately equivalent to 2-3 Keanu Reeves's.

Blade takes this, hands down. Team Blade has guns. GUNS. GUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNS. I'll bet my last dollar that if anything can put away Twilight's OP vampires and their marble skin and crazy hypno-powers, it's Blade. With a gun. A gun that shoots vampire-killing bullets.

Assuming the average magic player probably spends the cash he receives for his cards within weeks (hours/days?), I don't think inflation is even worth considering.

imho the logical consequence is a ban for second sunrise and faith's reward, for the same reason of the ban of sensei's divining top

Saw that too.. If Eggs were to be nerfed, that'd be the reason. I think there was 1 in Day 2 at GP Lyon. That's not a deck you ban on the basis of power level.

Moat is maybe a bad example because of the lofty value, but if you substitute in FoW, Wasteland, or Jace TMS, he'd be right. I can count on one hand the amount of times I've been able to trade Standard to Legacy on equal price values. I can't recall how many people have inquired about my Legacy staples and were willing to trade more value in Standard cards.

And with the Atheist stuff - I had always been under the impression that right wing America believed that if you were Atheist you were immoral, because morals are a religious thing and if you don't subscribe to religion you can't have morals.

No, that's really only a small percentage of right wing Americans. Probably around the same percentage of far left Americans that believe if you're religious you must be uneducated, because science can disprove parts of the Bible, and if you don't believe in science, you're practically worthless.

For the record, I say this as a pagan Libertarian, so I have no lot with either party. WAR casting meaningless votes

Well, I needed a name for non-GP player, so I wen't with Timmy (partly because Timmy is not competitive, partly because if I named one guy GP guy, you can infer I wasn't spending time thinking of naming my examples in a forum post). And if he's not waiting for the Worldspine Wurm, his primary purpose there is still to win packs or have fun. If said player wanted to drop to me and still play our match for kicks, I'd gladly oblige, but if he doesn't want to go to the GP, he can't care that much about winning the event.

I can't see any logic in someone intentionally losing the game.

seems to me like its just better to win the tournament with no intentions of going. Forget about etiquette. lol

Etiquette is key. As CorpT said, if you want to play competitively, having a playtest group is important. You would not be welcome playing with me if I offered to let you have all the prizes we would win minus the byes and you said, "No thanks. I don't want to go to the GP, but I'm going to play out anyway." You'd be surprised how much you can gain by helping other people out and scooping (more prizes! potentially a playtest partner/group!).

EDIT: I don't get why anybody would want to play out in this scenario. Does no one understand strategic decision making? The options are:

GP guy wins: gets byes + big prize
    Timmy loses: gets small prize

Timmy wins: wastes byes, opens Worldspine Wurm in big prize pool, freaks out
GP guy loses: gets small prize, smashes Timmy's bike.

    Split
    GP guy: gets byes
    Timmy: gets all the prizes

*assuming GP Guy's only goal is GP byes, and Timmy wants to get some sweet cards for his Dumb Green Creatures deck*

Split is by far the best result for both players. There's no logical reason to play out. "Winning" is not a logical reason. If you're at the event, you're either there because you want to win and earn byes at the GP, and would benefit from splitting, or you're there to have fun/win/win prizes, in which case, you still benefit from the split. Unless of course, you would rather be listed as the event winner and let the byes go to waste than earn more prizes. In that case, you're an illogical person, so my point still stands.

On doing fake tests: Be careful bend testing older cards.. even real ones will crack if you bend them enough. Nothing like bend testing your dual lands and accidentally destroying them. (or bend testing someone else's and having to buy them)

The Tournament Rules allow players to play out any matches they please. To try to deny them a right given to them by the documents through social pressure is disgusting.

Tournament Rules > All the random opinions of all the random players around the world

There's a huge difference between what you can do and what you should do. You can play it out, but why do that when you and your opponent can both win?

A GPT might be the only modern/legacy/vintage event that happens in a given month.

Right, so if you drop in the Finals, you still get to have your monthly Legacy/Modern tournament, you still get the 1st place prize, and the guy going to the GP gets the byes.

If I made the Finals of a GPT, and something somehow happened mid-event that prevented me from going to the GP, I'd surely drop to the guy actually going and split prizes. It's the courteous thing to do.

And what's all this talk about Feeling of Dread?

Feeling of Dread is an insanely powerful card against aggro, and one I feel is necessary to my decks success. Turn 2-3, this deck is a sitting duck for aggro. Feeling of Dread stops aggro cold in those turns. Centaur Healer/Azorius Charm are good and competes with Dread, but I've had better success with the latter keeping myself form dying before I can start dropping bombs. I've run all 3, and all 3 have some amount of late game versatility, but flashback on Dread is such a beast.

@Heartworks: Do you actually play UW control? I can't see you beating anything but the durdlest decks in the format if you don't run Restoration Angel, Centaur Healer, or Feeling of Dread. The only remaining early game strategy is hoping you get lucky and have a bunch of Azorius Charms in hand. Your deck would be way to slow to not get murdered by GW, RDW, or Zombies.

I snap dreadbore, izzet charm, cyclonic rift, pillar, and mizzium mortars in grixis control. I still think he's rad in standard

Oh, Snappy is great in Grixis, where you're reusing cheap kill spells and filtering. He's just terrible in Bant.

  • posted a message on Why no snapcasters in bant control?
Because Snapcaster Mage isn't as good in a deck that, against most decks, want to play 1-2 spells, wrath, and them tap out to chain massive overpowered creatures/planeswalkers into play (at which point the only use for that Azorius Charm in your graveyard is to cycle for more Thragtusks).

What are you going to bring back, anyway? Feeling of Dread (has flashback)? Farseek? your 1-2 of Azorius Charm? Getting a wrath back is ok, but you have 4-8 in your deck already, and you rarely need that many.
