It really wouldn't be MTGS without people who have no ability to evaluate card power or innovate new uses for cards complaining that nothing in a set is good. I could paper a wall with cards that MTGS has ragged on during preview season that turned out to be fantastic (Hero of Oxid Ridge, Hellrider, Strangleroot Geist, scrylands, flip-Jace)...

I agree this set is awesome stock full of good stuff. I just wished red & black got a chase 12-20 rare. I also found it weird that Hydra Omnivore was green's mythic and not exploration but hey that makes this easier to get a ton of exploration. I already have pre-order 2 cases for 400 each for my group to split.

Because Omnivore is going to be bonkers in a multiplayer limited format and there's no real reason for Exploration to be a mythic other than $.

Seeing that the last time we met Sarkhan it was on a shard, it doesn't seem that far fetched to think that the next block with him in it could be about a wedge.

The last time we met Sarkhan was in Zendikar.

    From the article:

Without doubt, it was most fun trying to work in the space of the draft-influencing cards. After all, that was what really sets this product apart from the rest.

Ultimately, we arrived at having one draft-influencing card per pack. These cards replaced the basic land slot.

Note this that Conspiracy cards are not draft-influencing cards. For those who care (not that I'm one of them), Conspiracy cards are still "junk" after the draft is over...

    ...for Spikes.

They can still be included in Cubes, and guess what...people will pay decent money for good cards to include in their Cubes. But really, the fact is that they aren't any more detrimental to the set's "value" than any other set's junk filler.

I like how you think Spikes don't have cubes

Yes. They had them at GP Atlanta. I took this just before deckbuilding.

It's entirely possible that the art was commissioned for the original version of Extinguish All Hope, which was a white card with the same text. When the card shifted to black, they just said "hey we'll use it for *** in this FTV we have coming up."

Fantasy. This card does not fit with what Extinguish all hope is trying to convey.

Yeah, because it's a black card now. *eyeroll* Obviously the flavor of the card changed when the card changed colors.

Regardless of what you may believe about Wizards' production schedule as it relates to FTV products, if art was commissioned for a set and then not used, it's in WotC's interest to find a use for it. It's happened before and almost certainly will again. I may or may not be correct about this art initially being intended for the card known as Wrath of the Gods.

    https://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/feature/294

This card was designed by Mark Rosewater during Theros design, and we put it aside for Journey into Nyx. It was originally a white card, and had the playtest name Wrath of the Gods. The development team moved it from white to black because white had just received a mass-removal spell, Fated Retribution, in Born of the Gods.

Oh, also, we get locally reflavored reprints all the time. Ravnica Putrid Leech in JvV doesn't mean they were going to print it in RtR block. Jace Beleren on Control Magic doesn't mean we're getting Control Magic reprinted in Standard.

a web browser no one without adult children uses

I'm willing to let everything else slide, but are you *really* suggesting that mozilla is barely used, or is somehow not a player in the browser market?

Currently about 25% of internet users use Firefox http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp with about 50% using chrome, just under 10% using IE, and about 1.5-2% using Opera (woo! go Opera!).

No, FireFox is not "a web browser no one without adult children uses".

I mean, way to veer wildly off-topic without actually effectively rebutting the point you're discussing. Thumbs Up

Ugh. Infertility is a medical concern only insofar as it affects people who want to have children. Birth control is only a medical concern insofar as it affects people who are at risk of unwanted conception. It is inherently ridiculous to create a dichotomy between the two.

You don't shift the format like that because people hate it.

No, people hate it when they're not informed about the shift ahead of time, they're perfectly fine when they know when the format will change, as in the case of Standard. If you simply unban and reban things without them being oppressive, and you don't inform people that you'll be doing such months to years in advance, it seems arbitrary and destroys the confidence and stability people have in a format.

Except that it had been clearly stated that the Modern banlist was always a work in progress. It was a brand-new format and Wizards was obviously going to take a much more active role in shaping it than they do with Legacy. If people weren't aware of the possibility of Modern bans, then that's not at all on Wizards. But it certainly is evidence of the fact that Wizards should avoid rapidly changing the banlist when it isn't necessary.

Really, what's being discussed here is "why do actions have consequences in terms of interaction with other human beings?"

If you don't feel that a person expressing a repulsive belief should change whether or not people are inclined to give them money for kazoos that make ducks horny, or butter-fried butter, or a web browser no one without adult children uses, that is certainly your prerogative. But you're not going to change people's behavior. In a free market, I have the right to spend my money at a business for any reason or to refrain from doing so for any reason. I don't need to ascribe to some mythical sense of purity of business motives. I don't need to have a deep-set conviction that Barilla pasta is inferior to Bertolli. I can just not like them.

That's, of course, setting aside the notion that somehow all opinions have and should have equal weight. There's a difference between "I believe gay people have no right to the civil institution of marriage" and "I believe gay people are equal to others" because one belief is bull*****.
