I'm curious to see how a BR or a Grixis Curse deck would do with that Curse of Misfortunes. Surely you can pick up a few curse of the pierce heart and probably a few more pieces of crap.. Iunno, just my inner johnny telling me to try new stuff out

    Pick the alpha, move on.

You'd have to have the Curse of Misfortunes out and NOT have the other curses that you wanted to tutor up in play for it to be effective. It's a hard card to make good use of in Limited, I'd think.

I'd take the Reap, personally. It's no Moan, but it's got a place in a couple different strategies.

Elk is great for green, giving ramp and morbid and still having a decent body. Farbog...seems underwhelming. Maybe I'm underestimating him, but 5 mana seems costly without ways to abuse ETB.

The bird's good, and fliers will almost always see play.

Overall, the Elk is probably the best pick if G/X morbid becomes viable at all.

Messenger and Ooze seem to imply a cycle of triple color cost cards.

"As you inject the viscus vitae into the brain stem, don't let the spastic moaning bother you. It will soon become music to your ears."

The mill and the reference to vitae seem to be a shout out to Amnesia, the Dark Descent to me - vitae was a substance extracted from pain that fueled magical/alchemical processes. Here it's being used to create a Skaab, which has some similarities to the monsters in Amnesia as well. The mill can work as a representation of forgeting something in MTG as well.

    Just speculation. Any thoughts?

I think Thought Scour's flavor text is a reference to Amnesia, the Dark Descent. The mention of Vitae, the flavor of losing memories (albeit in a different way than in Amnesia). Interesting, and nice shout out if that was intentional.

I'm of the opinion that this was done with the intention of provoking a response or an emotional reaction. This is not something done out of simple intolerance or ignorance that can be found occasionally in a small portion of deployed forces.

The video taping and posting on youtube of the event makes it highly traceable, which in this day even the most ignorant of people would be aware of. There is no "oh wow, I never thought they would trace this back to me" attitude apparent here. The soldiers that did this did so, I think, knowing that it would be noticed and not caring. They wanted to make a statement. They succeeded, for better or for worse.

the reason I chose Circle is because other than countering it, Delver decks have pretty much no way of getting it off the field. They can sideboard in 2 o-rings for it..but I welcome that, better than my phoenix! Also, Ashmouth Hound has a 1 toughness and delver pike decks run vapor snag and gut shot which pretty much negate his existence.

Vapor Snag doesn't negate its existence, it provides them tempo, that's all. Gutshot will kill it though.

Circle of Flame won't bother a Delver deck at all once it flips, so it's equally useless to you in that matchup. Ashmouth Hound can also function as an actual threat, which was why I suggested it - I think trying to make RDW defensive in response to a faster aggro deck is the wrong route to take, particularly when that defense doesn't actually affect what it's being used against.

Probably better to play an Ashmouth Hound here, though it won't kill a token swarm in the same way.

Of note, having multiples on the field isn't the worst thing ever either. Having 2 or 3 is actually fairly useful, especially since the damage occurs before combat damage.

Actually a pretty interesting interaction. I like it. Amusing if you decide to have it copy an artifact (it would keep the +1/+1 counter). Works well with Persist/Undying combo decks too.

But that's not what it says. It says creatures can't enter the battlefield from graveyards or libraries. There are plenty of cards that affects. Most notably, Green Sun's in standard and Oath of Druids in Legacy.

We're going to see these sorts of comments come up quite a bit over the next week or two, they'll figure it out eventually. Until then, probably best to refrain from trying to correct the same ignorant mistake borne from not reading the card over and over.

You are incorrect sun titan laughs at hexproofs when this is in the graveyard. Or anything that brings enchantments back from the gy since they aren't cast they don't target they just slip onto a creature.

So what deck are you building that can afford Sun Titan but can't afford better removal than this? Oblivion Ring can do much better for the same 3 mana. Claustrophobia can keep the target from blocking in addition to attacking.

So...my point remains. In the situations you gave where you would be reliably able to use it outside of a single interaction that is highly unlikely to occur without some extremely...questionable...deck building, and which can produce much more damaging effects...it's useless.

If a creature has 13 power id like better removal than this.
However, this is a decent side in vs wolf ramp and
Making his beater a dead creature.

Obv he can change and target another of his creatures but id rather slay with thrun than birds...

This can't hit Thrun, Dungrove, or Inkmoth. WRR won't care about this in the slightest.

As long as you place the Proliferate trigger on the stack after the CoSP trigger, you'll be able to get 2 counters on a creature that currently has none.

You also can't choose multiple kinds of counters to proliferate for the same permanent (ie, a charge counter and a +1/+1 counter on the same permanent)

If a permanent chosen this way has multiple kinds of counters on it, only a single new counter is put on that permanent.

  • posted a message on [Deck] Shimmer Myr Tezzeret
This deck is mainly me trying to explore whatever bit of fun I might get out of Shimmer Myr's ability. There's some amusing potential there (casting hosers like Grafdigger's Cage at instant speed could be interesting) and Tezzeret seems like the best way to do so in a viable manner.

Comments that tend towards "Playing 2 bad cards to make a mediocre combo is bad" will be ignored or reported. I'm aware that Shimmer Myr isn't optimal and has vulnerabilities, this isn't the place to comment as such without suggesting ways to overcome them. I also do not want to see "Remove Shimmer Myr and you might actually have a deck."

    So:

    Cards worth considering:
    Artifacts:
Shimmer Myr (the namesake and main source of instant speed fun).
Grafdigger's Cage - with Shimmer, becomes a 1 mana counterspell with a variety of relevant applications in Standard. The artifact stays to be turned into a beatstick or to help fuel Tez's ultimate and can be fetched with Tezz's +1.
Witchbane Orb - 4 mana counterspell with Shimmer out
Torpor Orb - Can neuter some cards with ETB abilities, but probably better to just play a hard counter here since the deck will have blue anyway.
Cathedral Membrane or Perilous Myr provide a bit of ground defense, are low cost, and can be decent as combat tricks. Membrane can pop in to kill a titan that it otherwise could not (Frost or Inferno could tap/ping it under normal circumstances). This won't stop the problem of their trigger occuring on-swing, but at least it the membrane kill something that it ordinarily could not.
Contagion Clasp kills early 1 drops or can flash in as a combat trick. With 5 mana, it can flash in and proliferate at instant speed.
Contagion Engine Useful against tokens? Doesn't do much at instant speed that it can't do at sorcery speed though.
Darksteel Juggernaut Playing it during the opponent's end step may lead them to be less cautious than they would normally. Hard to get rid of outside of exile effects, especially if you have 6+ artifacts out.
Darksteel SentinelDoesn't need Shimmer to have flash, hard to get rid of. Doesn't match up to a Titan very well, though.
Etched ChampionWon't be too hard to keep Metalcraft up for him, and he has good potential with Tezzeret's -1 ability.
Geistcatcher's Rig Kills Inkmoth, but does so way too late to be relevant most of the time. Contagion Clasp does a better job of this.
Hex Parasite Kills Planeswalkers. Not much else to say here.
Ichor Wellspring Think once? Eh. Unless I'm also going to include a sac outlet, I don't see this as worth a slot.
Isolation Cell Instant speed won't do anything to make this better - once they cast the creature, it's too late to respond to force the trigger.
    Manor GargoyleProbably not good enough

    MemniteAuto-include?
Mimic Vat Flashing this in at the death of a creature might have some interesting results. Also worth noting its interactions with Tezzeret's -1.
    Mox Opal Auto-include?
Myr Battlesphere Probably too high up on the curve, but works well with Tezz's ultimate and can be a wincon on its own.
Myr Turbine Again, probably too high on the curve. Makes chumps and T4 Tezzeret > T5 Turbine is decent but not ideal.
Norn's Annex Flashing it in after attackers are declared is too late for it to trigger, and most players don't spend their mana until main phase 2, so it doesn't really gain any utility via Flash.
Omen Machine With flash it's an extremely narrow counterspell that doesn't do much to non-blue players. Meh.
Palladium Myr Worth considering if using any of the higher cost artifacts, especially Myr Battlesphere, but probably not otherwise.
Perilous Myr Surprise chump block + shock.
Phyrexian Metamorph Instant speed 3 mana copy ability that still has relevance with Tezzeret. Auto include?
Phyrexian Revoker It's my understanding that flashing this into play in response to an ability being activated is too late to interrupt it. Flashing it in beforehand still lets them activate in response. Potential as a sideboard option, but probably not.
Piston Sledge Neat combat trick that sticks around. Probably the only equipment in standard that gains value from flash.
Precursor Golem Splitting into 3 bodies is great for Tezzeret's ultimate. T4 Tezzeret > T5 Precursor is noteworthy.
Pristine Talisman I get the feeling this is too slow to be of use.
Ratchet Bomb Instant speed token wipe, probably sideboard.
Shrine of Loyal Legions Loses a bit of functionality without having white mana in the deck. Probably too slow to be of use.
Spellskite Good already, ruins a lot of spells with flash.
Thopter Assembly Probably too vulnerable. I like what it does with Tezz's ultimate though.
Wurmcoil EngineFlash this in as a combat trick to block their Titan. Have a hearty laugh. Then proceed to turn one of the tokens into a 5/5.

Still looking into non-artifact things to do. Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas is obvious though.

    blue mana
    Argent SphinxToo vulnerable without metalcraft.
    Mana LeakAuto-include?
RiddlesmithCard filtering without having to tap, but Tezzeret's tutor should more than cover that necessity.
Stoic RebuttalProbably want to include this alongside, but not in place of, Mana Leak. Maybe 2/4 or 4/2.
Trinket Mage Fetches Memnite, Grafdigger Cage, Mox Opal, Contagion Clasp, and Hex Parasite. Maybe a 1 or 2 of.
Vapor Snag I love the card, but I don't think it has a place in this deck.
