This guy could see play in Zombies for a few reasons, yes. Taking counters off of Messenger is one of them. The other is that Extort is going to be awesome with Gravecrawler's being cast from the yard. If this card had been a Zombie it would have been grossly powerful; instead, it's only great. Sweet art, too.
I meant in the unique and interesting aspect, outside of a few janky interactions and combos Tarmogoyf is a million times better in a performance aspect but is completely outclassed "coolwise". I mean I look at Tarmo and I see Rare (looking at his cousins Boneyard Wurm and Splinterfright), there is no mind blowing, envelope pushing design that is put on the Mythics we are getting presently.
replying about Zombie matchup while i don't have many experience against BR ones but i can say due to my casual play against my cousin who run BG Zombie that BG Zombie was unfavorable matchup for Sligh red.
especially the annoying Lotleth was perfectly immune against Pillar and annihilating fire which our best answer against zombies
o k for the last time i write about Instigator gang here's my review based on the game:
for Rakdw it's decent body if somewhat my opponent couldn't handle it early, just send some creeps like Cackler or Crawler and when it flips its turn out to be a win con...
but as expected its lack of haste & makes him attracts removal & burns too often before he can give a board presence
I really don't see any place for this dude on the current list over Hellrider or Falkenrath Aristocrat . The ones I mention might win you games as soon as they enter the battlefield by their own, I don't see Instigator Gang doing that other than a few creature kills and a random win. But then again, try it on your deck and see how it goes.
I think until GTC comes out, this variation of zombies will always be seen as inferior to the others. I have high hopes that the simic and dimir guild add something nice (not even necessarily in the form of zombies).
I also think grimgrin is an underrated card though. Most decks swing to win in this format now, and when they attack you can sac a gravecrawler to untap him and block anything on the ground that's power 5 or less and he will live. on your turn, you attack with grimgrin, destroying their biggest threat. if they don't block they are taking some serious (potentially lethal) damage. If they do block that's another creature gone. Pay B to bring back the gravecrawler and repeat. In a round, you've destroyed 2-3 creatures all for just one B. Grimgrin is a card that if you don't deal with, the game will quickly slip away from you. Sure, there are answers out there for him. But none as universal as dismember was. Dismember really messed up grimgrin and now that its gone, i truly feel grimgrin is able to throw his weight around in the tournament scene.
You guys say diregraf captain is worth splashing blue for, but grimgrin is already blue. and having 1 island out isn't hard to achieve. after all, if you have the threats you want in your hand, you can always grisly salvage looking for the proper land to play. I'll admit, the skaab ruinator has been a little tougher to cast. However, he's mostly discarded to lotleth troll and gobbles up abrupt decays, etc.
I might drop grimgrin back down to 2 and the skaab ruinator down to 2 as well. then put in the captains and fit a blood artist in for kicks.
i would rather dropping all Ruinator and put 3 grimgrin along with blood artist.
Gravecrawler, Captain and Hexproof Grimgrin was the win condition here while the greedy ruinator jsut waste a place in the deck.
Cloudshift IMO was pointless(not worthless) for offensive minded deck like BR Zombie
i would ask how about Thrull Parasite just to add stings to Geralf's messenger & Gravecrawler
especially with Falkenrath aristocrat as sac outlet, this little guy turn every our Creature to Messenger with his Extort
my feeling was this card reminds me to Deathrite shaman when underrated at first as underpowered bird of paradise or grim lavamancer
anti PW's Control.
Undying resets
and pinging with extort..
even for Geralf's Messenger & Gravecrawler combo he's welcomed as the last piece,
you can cast Gravecrawler in Graveyard, which would trigger the extort everytime in zombies,
finally Zombies got a buddy from thrulls
this reminds me to goblin lackey rarity status
the rest mythic was just meh. unplayable on competitive...
especially the annoying Lotleth was perfectly immune against Pillar and annihilating fire which our best answer against zombies
for Rakdw it's decent body if somewhat my opponent couldn't handle it early, just send some creeps like Cackler or Crawler and when it flips its turn out to be a win con...
but as expected its lack of haste & makes him attracts removal & burns too often before he can give a board presence
i give him 6 of 10
well i agree for shred-freak part...
shred-freak often give 60% damage whenever i go heavy R
i read the whole 4 page but i think you're just bashing based on your personal 'experience' without describe how your match with those jund players.
im not jund player but i know how irritating the removal for jund nowaday as mentioned before
there's a reason why they so popular
well that's what i want to try for next fnm...
easy to splash to other color, i think its only competition in rakdw was aristocrat although its somewhat has beautiful synergy
but the question is it safe to put 3 or i just keep 2?
cause there are too many 2 drop for Rakdw
i would rather dropping all Ruinator and put 3 grimgrin along with blood artist.
Gravecrawler, Captain and Hexproof Grimgrin was the win condition here while the greedy ruinator jsut waste a place in the deck.
yet i convinced Troll wasnt good for this deck
