    I really was looking forward to the "three wishes" ultimate. Maybe "Search your library for three cards and exile them. You may play each of those cards without paying its mana cost for as long as it remains exiled."

    What is the idea behind this particular planeswalker though? It seems less general Djinn flavor.

    I'm always disappointed when Tibalt is reduced to being cheap - that's like reducing Elspeth to always having two +1-abilities or Nissa always refering to a card by name. This Tibalt in particular seems incredibly mechanical. If anything he is missing a better thematic card.

    ASHLING THE PILGRIM: PHOENIX'S ASHES


    The aim of this build is the take advantage of Phoenixes and Ashling's repeatable board-wipe to offset red's poor card advantage. Wins mostly through Repercussion and damage over time using Spellshock and Sulfuric Vortex to help get players in the red zone and Rite of Flame, Mox Diamond, Mana Crypt, Simian Spirit Guide and Lotus Petal all help to get out turn 1 Ashling.

    Thank you Rupananda. And yes, non-combo and versatile was the aim of the deck. Although games can tend more toward being linear (stalling board and casting eldrazi) there is still enough variety to keep the games new and exciting for me each time. I will update the Budget recommendations tomorrow sometime for those aspiring to expand on my current playstyle decklist.

    Played two games yesterday with a table of 4-Players. The first game one player (The Author of this Primer) was taken out quickly by a big Multani, Maro-Sorcerer strike early on. Later, at 12 and 14 health, the Multani player and myself respectively each took 14 damage to the Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord who sacrificed Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger twice to Jarad with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed on the battlefield. So the Jarad player won that match.

    Next game, again with Barrin, Sliver Queen, Jarad and Multani ...

    Started off really slow, missing 7 land drops in a row. With 4 lands on the table I was able to top and draw for a Surveyor's Scope and restabalize my lands base and begin to catch up to the rest of the table. The game escalated until I was able to drop Omniscience and land several permanents including Kozilek, the Great Distortion managing to snag other cards to cast before passing the turn. At which point Reclamation Sage destroyed my Omniscience leaving me to hard cast spells again as I had just become arch-enemy. Luckily, by being able to bounce Kozliek with Barrin, Master Wizard and recast him, I was able to counter the removal targeted at Kozilek by discarding the cards I kept drawing until I could swing in for 12 damage a turn on the other players. To ensure the win I cast Intuition for Time Warp, Spelltwine and Snapcaster Mage striking the Multani player for 24 damage over 2 turns winning the game.

    Hoping to get a deck-tech video posted and revamp the strategy guide and card analysis in the original post to reflect the recent changes soon.

    I had both in my list for a time. I ended up cutting back on small anthem effects though as I had more of them in my list such as Angel of Jubilation. My concern offhand on the anthem creatures is that I have to be swarming fairly hard for them to add up so I tried running effects that do more than just pump for one to try to make situations where I just have like 3 or 4 guys a little better. When you start getting to the what if I have like 6+ creatures it starts becoming a question as to why nobody has wrathed you yet. If I had a higher concentration on tokens I might consider running more anthems but I feel like generally anthems dont quite do enough in commander so I tried going with some that add up more than just a single +1/+1.

    Soltari Visionary I had it in my list as well before I paired it out. I like it but its more of an attrition card than one that really gets in for numbers. There is nothing wrong with killing enchantments but they are also generally the card type that sees the least numbers in a game of EDH assuming someone isn't like playing enchantress. Often the enchantments are valuable and good but at the same time I feel like his extra value is questionable often and I have other evasive creatures that are 2/2 for 3 that I feel have a better chance of generating value like Thada Adel and Daxos. The difference is kind of that proactive value generation is a lot more reliable than reactive value generation. My objective for this deck is to get in for numbers so I would rather do some proactive rather than reactive value generation here because of that generally speaking.


    I like the analysis here on these, it helped me to smooth out a mono-white list I was brewing up, with regard to being more proactive. For me in general however, the Champion I decided to keep in my list for now, not only for the anthem effect, but because he comes down early and carries Sword of the Animist and other Equipment well like Captain's Claws.

    Phantasmal Image also seems cheap and good for this list.

    Yosei is one among other targets such as Archon of Justice , Wurmcoil Engine and other misc. ETB creatures that can help push value and control with reanimation effects such as Nim Deathmantle and Gift of Immortality. Enchantments also used to shut down artifact ramp and draw off of Mesa Enchantress and Kor Spiritdancer.

    Alright so big update concerning the deck regarding everything that's come out recently. I did a lot of knob twisting with some artifacts and lands to get the flow of mana where I wanted it for the most part.

    Some changes to finishers, swapping Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur out for Kozilek, the Great Distortion and other creatures like Duplicant and Clever Impersonator to help facilitate that change with cards like the new Conduit of Ruin.

    Also with instants and sorceries ... Thwart and Surveyor's Scope are cards I'm going to be testing as Intuition can make an interesting pile with Thwart , Force of Will and Pact of Negation.

    Other cards are also helping to facilitate draw as despite the Timetwister cards, I would consistently come up top decking... So Jace Beleren makes his first visit to the list! My playgroup is finally becoming activate again after a long hiatus mostly due to all of us being between jobs ect. Should be getting to a overhaul of the guide sometime early February at the latest.

    Also with the current testing of dropping Extraplanar Lens Snow-Covered Basics may soon be turning into 21 Unglued Islands!

    As far as Oath cards, or any Battle for Zendikar stuffs, I'm just going to be running the new Kozilek, the Great Distortion and Conduit of Ruin. I played three games today and lost all of them but most due to mana floods. So I'm going to be making some changes tonight or the next few days and give the thread a big overhaul. Sorry for lack of activity, my playgroup has been someone hibernating due to cold weather as of late and I've been busy working on some custom MTG sets (Links in my signature!!)
