why the snaps with tasigur? seems like swiftspear would be better
Swiftspear seems pretty bad right now. It was a lot better when you could chain Ancestral Recall into Serum Visions into Lightning Bolt and so forth. Now you run your hand out and Swiftspear stays pretty small. You don't have to continuously cast spells to buff up Tasigur. He's a phat booty 4/5 for life.
And Snap with Tasigur is beyond manageable. Thought Scour alongside fetches is easily enough fuel for both. Ran a few games with Grixis Twin tonight and didn't have any issues casting both.
I got a Modern 5K rolling into town in a few weeks. Torn between playing Grixis Twin or Grixis Delver. Feel like Tasigur is the real deal, though I wonder if less people would be ready for Grixis Delver. Thinking of running something like this.
I've been meaning to ask everyone here, but how much does acquiring UR twin on MTGO roughly cost? I've been meaning to get into MTGO just was never sure if i was ready to invest in virtual magic and finally decided i want to.
It's actually toward the higher end of MTGO Modern decks, price-wise. MTGGoldfish has UR Twin lists running around $700 and up.
On another note, I've been trying to make the move to Grixis, and I'm liking the look of the Grixis lists that pop up on this thread. I'm expecting the meta to be heavier on BGx. Grixis seems a little more balanced and it's better at handling multiple Siege Rhino/Tarmogoyf, which is something that straight UR Twin struggles with. This is the list that I'm thinking of running over the next few weeks.
Trying to be a little lighter on the combo and heavier on alternate win-cons, which might be a huge mistake. UR has slicker mana/tempo, but opening up Tasigur and hard removal for big-booty threats should work. In theory. Wondering what tweaks I should make (probably need to make room for Murderous Cut), and the sideboard probably needs help. It's a bit of a pile.
The green splash seems interesting, considering that Abrupt Decay and Siege Rhino seem to make every deck better. I also really need to test with Abzan Charm, as every mode seems solid, and it exiles a number of relevant creatures (Primeval Titan, Tarmogoyf, Siege Rhino, nearly everything in Zoo, etc). I'd try to make room for 1-2 after you pick up Chandra, Pyromaster.
People talking trash about Birds, and I want to run some Birds . . .
Hoping for some critiques on a build I'm thinking of running next Monday at my shop's weekly event. Been on that UR Tempo/Twin plan but I want to try something different. I'm also really into Junk cards (it's only platonic), but I'm missing basically every key piece (Tarmogoyf, Dark Confidant, Liliana of the Veil). Been trying to figure out another route, reading up on Junk variants here and there, and I've come to this.
I'm trying to go for an aggro list with some hatebear elements. Not sure if this will be decent or watered down. But the general idea is to play creatures that are difficult to deal with and/or generate value, with a bit of efficient removal/disruption thrown in. I also really want to try out Knight of the Reliquary. I got crushed last week by a Zoo list running it and now I'm intrigued.
Ideally, I'd probably want to go down two Voice of Resurgence for a Noble Hierarch and a Brimaz, King of Oreskos. As usual, I'm lacking in cards. Aside from glaring omissions (traditional Junk staples, Zendikar fetches), what could I do to improve this list? Total Junk novice here, seeking answers from those more knowledgeable.
Went out and had one last hurrah with Dig Through Time. Managed to go 3-1, though I'm not entirely proud of that result. Played a pretty stock UR list, with a single Hallowed Fountain for some sideboard goodies.
This is nearly the same deck that was in Standard a few months back, except worse. No Falkenrath Aristocrat, no Hellrider, etc. Opponent has a bunch of clunky creatures like Pack Rat and Geralf's Messenger and some discard. I still manage to lose G2 because I can't find lands (again), but this is kind of a walkover, which makes me feel bad. 1-1
Match 3 - Vial Zombies
G1 he goes Mutavault into Aether Vial on his first turn. So it's Merfolk, of course. His next turn he plays a Swamp and a couple of Gravecrawlers. I raise both eyebrows. He plays funky Zombie lords, which I save removal for, to keep his Gravecrawlers small. I slow the clock until I'm able to get Twin together and he has no response. G2 is a blowout. I pick up Anger of the Gods in my opener, and I let him commit three creatures to the board. I take some damage, but the 3-for-1 from Anger sets him back a lot. After this he runs out two lords and a Mutavault. He swings in, I drop a Timely Reinforcements, bolt a lord and triple block his Crawler to kill it. Next turn I resolve a Keranos, God of Storms and it takes over. 2-1
Thought this deck was pretty interesting, but it ultimately seemed like a worse, slower Merfolk.
Match 4 - UWR Kiki/Control
G1 is pretty grindy with a lot of back and forth. I keep him off Restoration Angel because I fear the combo, and he keeps me off my combo. Get to a point in the game where I have the combo ready, but I think I'm open to countermagic/removal. I gamble on a Vendilion Clique. His hand is a bunch of creatures and a single Mana Leak. I take Leak, hope he doesn't draw into anything relevant, and I go for Twin on the next turn. He doesn't have it. G2 he gets way ahead on resources and resolves a Resto that I can't deal with. It slowly slaps me about the face and neck until I die. G3 is wildly close. I'm at four life after a bunch of Bolt/Clique beats, and I go for a Blood Moon. He goes for the Remand and I Spell Snare it. He has no non-basics, so I'm feeling pretty good. Next turn he drops Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and drops me to two life. I play a Batterskull and hope he doesn't top-deck a bolt. He doesn't and I get it from there. 3-1
Felt a little dirty going 3-1, as I had two relatively easy matches. Also felt depressed thinking about Dig Through Time. I'll never forget you.
Going forward, I'll probably make the following changes.
This all sounds pretty interesting, and swapping the four Treasure Cruise for four other powerful Delve cards seems very good, especially if you still run a couple of Thought Scour for Delve fuel. I'd probably want to test 2 Tasigur, the Golden Fang, 1 Murderous Cut, and 1 Tombstalker. Tasigur definitely seems like a really solid source for mid-late game gas. And this whole time I thought that an opponent could send a land back to your hand. Realizing that I was totally wrong on that one, which makes him look a lot better.
Running Tasigur would also give me a great excuse to avoid buying Dark Confidant. That's just not happening.
Instead of straight cutting discard in red splashes, maybe Mardu Charm is an option. Instant tokens, kills most creature, or if needed it can be used as discard. I know you really don't want to be spending 3 on discard most games, but I doubt it will be a problem in most games you want that effect. The big problem is how stressful it would be on the mana base running it in the same deck as Spectral Procession, but the modern card pool can handle that stress fairly well.
I'm surprised Mardu Charm isn't more popular, but it's probably looking for a deck in Modern. But every mode seems good. The discard being at instant speed is also pretty impressive.
Abzan Charm could be reasonable in the Junk lists as well. Slightly overpriced Night's Whisper for gas, toss some +1/+1 counters around, and the exile creature mode seems really good. Hits Delver, Rhino, Finks, etc. I need to test with that sometime.
It feels like a lot of 2-color decks need to splash another color at this point. RUG Twin seems a bit better than straight UR Twin at the moment. Naya Zoo went ahead and splashed B for Siege Rhino and Abrupt Decay. Some UWR Midrange/Geist decks are now splashing B for Slaughter Games and Crackling Doom. BW Tokens probably needs to do something similar.
The red splash seems good. Burn, lifegain from Lightning Helix, Young Pryomancer, opens up some sideboard options. Slaughter Games would be really good against combo strategies like Scapeshift that traditionally give BW Tokens a lot of trouble.
Hello, hello. First time posting in this thread. I came across this list and I'm pretty interested it. Seems pretty tuned against Delver/Aggro decks, and the pilot has put up a few results with it. As someone who's still seeking a set of Goyfs, but also likes lots of the Junk cards (Rhino/Abrupt are so good), would this be a reasonable deck to build? Also wondering what changes you guys would make to a list like this, aside from adding Tarmogoyf. I figure that the mana-base could use an upgrade, maybe the sideboard too.
Liked the MD Keranos. I run a MD Batterskull because I'm bad at MTG, but I'm guessing that MD Keranos is more correct. I'm not about to argue with Dickmann. Guessing it's just a solid late-game source of advantage if you have trouble getting the combo together. And Keranos can totally blow out fair decks.
"I want to play Pod but I don't think it's better than Cruising."
"[C]ruise and dig are both getting banned. [V]ery confident of that."
I would flip every table in my house if this happened.
At least leave us Dig. Everyone acts like Cruise/Dig are these unbeatable cards, but Pod/Junk can still crush everything now that they have Siege Rhino.
The top decks before Khans are still the top decks after Khans.

Match 1 - Naya Zoo
Surprised that he wasn't running Tribal Zoo, or at least Dark Naya with Siege Rhino. I think those versions of Zoo are better, so I liked my chances. I'm on the draw G1 and I keep a 1-lander with a couple of Serum Visions, feeling sure that I'll get lands on time. It doesn't happen. In G2 I don't let him stick any creatures. Lightning Bolt a small guy, Snap/Bolt another small guy. Dismember comes through big and gets rid of a Loxodon Smiter. I put together Splinter Twin and get there. G3 I keep a hand that has Anger of the Gods. I like my chances. Then he plays two Loxodon Smiter and I have no real way to deal with them. 0-1
Match 2 - BR Aggro
This is nearly the same deck that was in Standard a few months back, except worse. No Falkenrath Aristocrat, no Hellrider, etc. Opponent has a bunch of clunky creatures like Pack Rat and Geralf's Messenger and some discard. -3 Dig Through Time (RIP)

I hope that'll be enough, though perhaps Sleight of Hand/Peek is better. Maybe Telling Time?

I'm probably going to look at building a Junk Tokens. Voice of Resurgence has potential, and you might as well play Siege Rhino right now if you can. Could also see dropping a few anthems and going with Gavony Township for mid/late game pump. Also opens up Abrupt Decay, Maelstrom Pulse, Choke, Thrun, the Last Troll, etc.

Recently came across a deck like this after looking up Mardu Tokens on (the) Google. Really like the look of this list.
Has anyone else had any success with this list? Went back through this thread and it seems like everyone is more on a creature-based plan.
