I took this deck to FNM and got first thanks to a five-way tie.
Won round 1 2-1 against G/W aggro though it could have been 2-0 if I remembered that Fleecemane Lion isn't hexproof right away
Won round 2 2-1 against an Izzet tempo deck that was running Guttersnipe, Spellheart Chimera, Steam Augury, Chandra and Jace. I lost game 2 after keeping a 4 land hand (a really bad habit of mine) and getting mana flooded with my opponent at 5 life. I should have lost game 3 because I was at 9 life and my opponent had Guttersnipe in play and Chandra ready to go ultimate; he bricked, except that it did reveal Voyage's End but he didn't cast that because Guttersnipe was the only creature on the field. He also had Magma Jet in hand and only realized his mistake after conceding.
Won round 3 2-0 against G/R midrange. Fanatic of Mogis was the finisher in both games.
Went into round 4 as the only undefeated and feeling good about my chances to get first... and promptly got destroyed 2-0 by what looked like PyroRed (though he was playing Purphoros instead of Hammer and also had Legion Loyalist in the main deck).
I'll need to add at least two Frostburn Weird's to my sideboard for the mirror match.
For my maindeck I'm still undecided on whether I want Chandra's Phoenix or Gore-House Chainwalker. I might just switch in Phoenix for next week to see how that turns out.
RakdosDW is going to have to become more of a thing than it currently is, IMO. Then you might see this in the 4-spot.
The problem here is that if I'm playing an Rakdos aggro deck then I'm likely going with Exava in my 4-mana slot. Is this Chandra good enough that you would want 8 4-drops?
For all those saying that she'll be a perfect fit in red aggro decks: What card in the current decks would you have her replace? And in what way would she be more useful than said card?
If you think that's being unfair since there's no way she should replace Hellrider or Ghor-Clan Rampager then do you think she is a better fit than other red four drops post rotation?
So which talking head is going to overhype Chandra? My guess is Mike Flores since he was still trying to tout Tibalt as 'waiting for a deck to fit in' recently!
Having the Kamigawa dragons at mythic would have been fine if the packs didn't cost twice as much as a regular pack!
From the very beginning Wizards made a big deal about the price and that this set would help provide hard to find cards for modern. In what way are the dragons useful for modern?! Even worse, isn't one of the dragons banned from EDH?
The only good thing about this is that I now don't feel bad that I didn't buy a box. Imagine buying 2+ boxes with each costing over $250 and most of your rares/mythics wind up being the dragons, Pyromancer's Swarth, Squee, Oona, etc!
now we want chandra to be playable in legacy and modern?
Yes because if you've been paying any attention you would notice that red has been really shafted there lately.
by that logic, green and white are also due for a good planeswalker and have been given the shaft. this is ludicrous thinking.
...
Elspeth and Garruk.
Try again.
also, red has ALWAYS been powerful and hasn't really needed new cards to see use in either of these formats.
There are way too many hate cards in both for red decks to ever truly be tier 1 in modern or legacy. And, as much as you will hate to admit this, a very good Chandra won't suddenly make red the deck to beat in either.
and the 2 most winning fair decks in modern have red as part of their color pie (UWR and Jund).
...
Did you just try to use a blue deck to justify why red players shouldn't complain?
+ Loot (everybody loots?) or 'add R (RR?) to your mana pool'
-X ~ deals X damage to each creature (and player?)
would IMO not just be more realistic but frankly more playable as well.
How is that in any way pushed or even playable?! You're sounding like one of those 'pros' who tried to convince us all that Tibalt was a playable card and that there would soon be a deck that makes good use of it. One year later....
For those that forgot, the article on dailymtg that introduced Tibalt told us all that with his ultimate we could have the privilege of stealing an opponent's Grave Titan and zombies! I'll give you all a minute to understand what's wrong with that scenario.
In all honesty you're not owed anything, except a playable Chandra. In addition, Red has received quite a few good cards of lately to compensate. Some may mention Tibalt, but he was more or less an experiment in card design.
Sorry, but if the newest Chandra isn't very good and playable in eternal formats (at the very least in modern) it would be a failure. Red has had some good standard playable cards lately but how many of them will have any impact in modern or legacy like Snapcaster, Delver, Liliana, Lingering Souls or Geist do?
I find it hilarious that people here complain about planeswalkers not being balanced - JTMS too good, ablaze too bad, etc. and then go on to design stupidly imbalanced cards. The planeswalker you designed is better than Jace, the Mind Sculptor - and that's not an okay level of power.
Also, Chandra 1.0 did see a good amount of standard play. Still, here's hoping for a better fourth chandra.
Considering how red's been screwed a lot for some time, why can't it get a strong, slightly over-powered planeswalker?
holy pushed to high ****ing heaven on both of those.
i'm glad you're not on the R&D team.
You think that's actually pushed?! Damn, I'm glad YOU'RE not on the R&D team... then again you probably would agree with them that Tibalt having normal looting would have been overpowered.

Right you are!
0: Now this is what will determine how good she is! It allows you to cheat in an extra spell each turn!
Overall, she should definitely see some play. Maybe even in modern!
