May 21, 2018We are doing the 1 vs 1 brawls with the adjusted range of 20 life. This is a key fact as aggro decks tend to be a whee bit too fast when going first. I am already playing Abrade + Lightning Strike main and shortly considered adding Shock + Filigree Familiar, but simply switched to Kumena for 1 vs 1 Brawl atm- ;-)Posted in: Decklists

This said, I am in the lucky position of playing M:tG for more than 20 years (with some breaks in between that is) now. Owning stuff from Legends and other older sets for more than 15 years now means there are nearly no budget constraints for me for this format. This leads me to the question whether you considered Adding a Chains of Mephistopheles somewhere in your 100? Also, when looking at the Satyrs, Mulch & Grisly Salvage, is there a way to incorporate Commune with the Gods? How fond are you on cutting Victimize?

I'm been playing black + red for a few years now in EDH and I will tell you Wheel of Fortune really works against you. Your best bet for draw in red, (especially with Godo) is Skullclamp and packing creatures like Siege-Gang Commander who poop out dudes for you to clamp.
Consider Jaya Ballard, Task Mage as a replacement for beacon, shes very awesome. Please run Basilisk Collar to turn her into a death touch gun, (works awesome with Inferno Titan and Siege-Gang Commander as well.)
You really don't need all those different swords in my opinion; pack more utility equipment's as mentioned above.
If your playgroup allows you the 10 card wishboard consider running Burning Wish and move Insurrection to the wish board as it really sucks drawing that early.
Recoup is an awesome red recursion card.
Stranglehold is a grief card, I know mono-red needs all the goodie goods it can get but people are not gona have fun with that card out.
Buried Ruin is a hidden gem, run it--you need all the recursion you can find in red and this helps you get back utility equipment.
You may agree Blasphemous Act is better than Chain Reaction.
Tenza is cute for the theme but its a **** card; I can understand if you're leaving it in for flavor though.
Hoarding Dragon is an awesome little bro.
I prefer Ingot Chewer over Manic Vandal.
Run High Market and you can also run Word of Seizing which can take planeswalkers whos ultimate is about to go off or if you take a creature you sacrifice it with market after attacking. Trust me I've had Nicole Bolas, Planeswalker about to ultimate taken from me--it burned.
Thanks for your reply. About your suggestions:
- I haven't thought about Argentum Armor in Godo, but I will definitely try it. The Exoskeleton was in there, but I didn't like it - it's a tiny bit too good with Godo, and nobody wants to be killed by poison on turn 6 and watch the game go on for another hour.
- I don't like Jaya for the steady card disadvantage she produces. Additionally, in a longer game she wouldn't kill any relevant creatures without also having the Collar out. I could imagine adding her and the Collar if I add some additional pingers sometimes. I already tought about Grim Lavamancer and Goblin Sharpshooter, for example.
- Recoup was in the first sketch, but got cut shortly afterwards. There weren't that many playable sorceries in the deck back then, so it might be worth a second glance.
- Stranglehold is not a grief card in my view. It fits the aggressiveness of the deck and permits other deck's tutors to better establish it's own gameplan. A tutor for removal might be some deck's game plan to handle aggressive strategies like this one, so hindering them to do so isn't more dickish than the tutor strategy itself. Playing mono red and watch other people using tutor after tutor isn't fun as well. Additionally, as you mentioned on your own, mono red needs all the toys it can get.
- I play Skullclamp in too many other EDH decks. My build of Godo uses Mask of Memory for this purpose.
- Sword of Light and Shadow is in there because it adds a little bit of recursion and therefore CA. Additionally, it grants protection from the most efficient spotremoval available. However, I might change the equipment package a bit and test some other configuration. I love Tenza in here, though.
- Buried Ruins is great indeed. I use it in Karn, but it would be nice here, too. I think I'll add one.
- Hoarding Dragon was in the deck for a while. Then I added one to my Brion EDH, which is much better at controlling when the Dragon goes to the yard, and as I try to avoid too much overlapping of cards used between my decks he was cut here. On the other hand, he is one of the more reliable red tutors, so maybe he deserves a slot.
- Word of Seizing is nice. I overlooked it says *permanent*... I think I have to give it a try.

One thing I'm wondering though is, why is this a creature-heavy aggro deck? Godo's strength is Voltron, since he doubles the power bonus and on-hit/on-attack effects of any equipment on him. Hitting 21 general damage should be a breeze in Godo, to the point where playing other non-utility creatures is probably a waste of time and resources.
I'm going to second the suggestions to add Argentum Armor and Grafted Exoskeleton. In addition, I'd suggest Nim Deathmantle. It makes Godo incredibly hard to remove, more so even than effects like Lightning Greaves and Darksteel Plate. As long as you can keep at least 4 open, Godo is immune to all forms of destruction, edicts, and clones, and in fact playing any of these spells just lets you fetch another piece of equipment. It also grants him evasion, which can make him lethal very easily.
I think I already covered most of your suggestions. Until now Wheel effects were great every time I played them. Suspending Wheel of Fate usually speeds the play up a bit as people are eager to use the cards in their hands before they will be gone.
For the same reason this deck is not Voltron, but more an aggro-controllish build. Some efficient creatures (as far as you can say so for red) with added abilities and some control elements for staying in the game long enough. Turning creatures sideways aggressively is a nice way to force more early interaction and tends to innervate table politics and discussion.
Nim Deathmantle is a very good suggestion. I think this is a nice way to cut the two 'classic' swords from the deck, as it provides another way of generating CA and therefore lets me reduce another overlapping of cards used in my decks.

With Azami (currently dismantled) being combo, Xihaou Dun MBC and Omnath ramp + fatties at the time, I wanted Godo to be a mixture of red beatdown, nastiness and chaos in a big-red stylish way. Akroma, Angel of Wrath closes the circle as #5 is an angel-themed control deck.
I played and tweaked the deck for more than a year now and came to a build which I think is good enough to present to you. Nevertheless I am happy for your suggestions and input. When proposing possible cards to add please also suggest what to cut for them.
A classic problem for Mono-red in multiplayer is generating enough CA for keeping up with the other players. Some choices reflect this problem and my way of trying to solve it. What a great challenge for deck building!

Jun 20, 2010I played Rofellos too, but from the beginning I wanted it to be a big-green deck and not an elf-ballish deck. I played Staff for exactly one evening and pulled it from the deck after one game. Sick piece of artificial craftmanship.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
With Staff of Domination getting the axe the potential of abusing Rofellos (and others) diminished a lot. But as much as I loved playing the deck, it always felt a bit like cheating. There were these games where you drew your first 7 and knew that the group would have a hard time beating you if there won't be spot removal during the first 3 turns. Hands containing at least 2 Forests and some assortement of fat and draw (or a combination thereof like Primordial Sage) were very strong.
I never saw Channel being played, but with the printing of the Eldrazi I was a bit worried about it.
Seeing Tolarian Academy leaving the format makes me a sad Panda. Maybe I'll rebuild my not-even-finished artifact deck (Sharuum) into Karn? However, Academy is a very strong card and was abused in whatever format it was played since it was printed. Therefore I do have a fine grasp for this
Jun 20, 2010I am also considering an angel-themed deck as one of my next projects. Contrary to the other suggestions I considered going with Selenia, Dark Angel as my General, as I'd like to show some corruption of angelic creatures. Fallen Angel and Fallen Ideal came to my mind as well as some other goodies fitting this subtheme.Posted in: Commander (EDH)
