Pithing Needle is a great card. It is the only card that can counter a spell that was played a turn or more before or a turn before its even played. In addition any color can run the card. Sure it doesn't offer a perfect solution to any spell but there isn't a card in print that does. I do feel that it will force people to alter their net decks. I don't know how many decks I've seen that if you play this first turn without it being counter by force of will will force them to concede. Running 4 of these in a deck means you can make 16 cards ineffective, 4 counter spells only stop 4 cards. Using the 2 cards together and you will have a powerful control deck.

Ravinca should be a great set, once again Richard Garfield has a hand in card design. It will be nice to see gold cards make a come back but I hope its not over done. After Mirridin I started getting tired of artifacts.

There has never been a gold card printed in any of the 8 core sets, seeing how wizards makes the core sets for new players it is safe to say that the art work is not one of the gold specters.

I could see a new replacement for the 10 painlands in Ravnica. We already know that birds of paradise are not in 9th but in Ravnica. The block is being designed by Garfield and is supposed to be heavy in gold cards. I could see Garfield trying to rework the painlands for the block to make them different but better.

It can't be Abyssal Specter because the art is on the 9th box top, a spot that always shows a rare card's art work. That would leave Blazing Specter, Doomsday Specter, Entropic Specter, Hollow Specter, Silent Specter, and Hypnotic Specter (was only uncommon but today would be rare like Sarra Angel) as rares. Blazing adn Doomsday are gold cards and Silent has morph so we can rule those out. Wizards in an article about discard effects said that random discard was falling out of flavor but not that they would never print it again, but at the same time Hypnotic hasn't been printed since 4th and had 7 specters to replace it none of which with random discard. Out of the possible specters for 9th, Entropic, Hollow, and Hypnotic, Hollow is the most likely being the most recently printed with a non-key mechanic. Entropic is also possible being a black version of Maro that was in 8th. While Hypnotic is possible it is very unlikely, either way you can't say Hypnotic is confirmed as of yet.
