I have the feeling this is one of those cards that started out a lot stronger and got watered down so it wouldn't be broken. At instant speed its great for blocking and destroying attackers. If you could make an army with their graveyard than you would always have more blockers. The god I was most excited about is the biggest disappointment.
Red standard decks just got faster. This reminds me of old school Magic. The self burn won't be an issue at all and can't wait to run a deck with them.
I have not put much thought in this card but pulled a foil and started to think how does this card actually work? On the face its straight forward but says nothing about what happens after the effect. I can put my auras in one pile and creatures in another pile. Afterwards can I put the auras on different creatures? What about a bestowed creature, does it stop being an aura when it goes into a pile even if the creature it was on is in the same pile? Or does it remain an aura and can go on a different creature when it comes back into play? Either wayThe Cheese Stands Alone would be a funny way to play this card.
This card represents blue very well, so it is appropriated to fill a slot even if it is duplicated with M14.
Personally, I don't like this card, because you spend one card (itself) and three mana just to recover the spent card and get a new card. Very little advantage at CMC 3. At CMC 2 it is too good. A design question.
The Satyr is cool but I feel he is a sideboard card. The true power comes from having 2 or more copies in play to get the multiple triggers for one spell. Fun effect.
Breaking // Entering along with a few others could really ruin your day with the oracle. I think he was a very well made tribute card and wish the others were this way. It really makes the person consider their options before just paying or not paying the tribute. Not a great draft pick but still a good card.
People forget there are more than just Spike players. Mill is a very popular type of deck to play in many formats. But the same people that hate Phenax miss the days of blue draw/go decks. Well here is a perfect card for a draw/go deck. Inspired gives more creatures to mill without losing your own creatures to attack. Defender gives high toughness creatures at low cost. Easy standard deck could mill you out in two turns after he hits the board. Deck full of control cards and you never have permission to do anything.
I like the random part. "Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order" it appears someone thought what if they pay 50 mana into it and can arrange their whole deck for the rest of the game. If a person could find a way to break the card they deserve to arrange their whole deck for the cost of that much mana, no need for the random part.
The spirit will go into my RW deck. Chandra, Pyromaster will still work for card advantage. It will see lots of play I'm sure. with similar work around.
Tribute was a good idea that was done so badly. The hydra seems to be the only card so far that was made correctly. This one is why we didn't see a reprint of Acidic Slimeand it doesn't even come close to what the slime did. What were they so afraid of they took away Fiend Hunter?
I always love a new Phoenix but I don't like this one. The threat of the return gives the Phoenix its flavor and its power. This card removed that threat 99% of the time its best to pay the tribute for a 5/5 vs. 3/3 haste that can be played again.
For this card the tribute should have given it haste and +2. That would make a person decide between a flying creature with 5/5 haste or 3/3 that will return.
I'm trying to like the Firedrinker but with Rakdos Cackler and Bellows Lizard in standard I don't think it will see any real play. Cackler is a great turn 1 play with little draw back and I've never seen the lizard played. Yes a 2/1 is much better but I don't get the jump from common to rare requires that much of a draw back. The +1/+0 should have only cost R but be limited to the number of activations per turn.
Design - nice little card.
Flavour - WOOPS! So any common spellcaster can effortlessly kill any God he likes? Come on.
And not just that, but exile has become WAY too overused. Things can't be destroyed anymore, they've got to be completely removed from the game. And bury? Pffff, that's so outdated. It's all about the exiling now, even on commons.
Right on. When you hear creature type God you expect it to be tough to deal with. Flavor made sense when they were indestructable. So why can anyone take one down the turn after they hit the board? Exile has been a pain from day one with Swords to Plowshares but atleast it wasn't on every other card. The legend and planeswalker rules were updated to make it more fun to use the cards but now they have made it far to easy to kill the cards before you get any use out of them.
At CMC of 2 in modern you get Altar's Reap, Dangerous Wager, Desperate Ravings, Goblin Lore, Hatching Plans, Ideas Unbound, Ior Ruin Expedition, Night's Whisper, Perilous Research, Scarscale Ritual, See Beyond, Sign in Blood,Vision Skeins, and Wild Guess. So any draw spell that nets you more than 1 card must have a drawback or cost at least 3 mana.
T1: Springleaf Drum
T2: Kiora's Follower
T3: Siren of Silent Song
Game Over
For this card the tribute should have given it haste and +2. That would make a person decide between a flying creature with 5/5 haste or 3/3 that will return.
Either way I would love to Mindslaver a Firedrinker to attack with a Boros Reckoner to block.
