Bedrock Tortoise actually seems like deceptively bad creature-based combo protection. While it doesn't leave itself open (all the time) unlike Shalai, Voice of Plenty, it only protects about as well as Grand Abolisher. Spellskite at least still lures removal any turn it wants.
Pit of Offering is horrible mana fixing early, but just like Bojuka Bog, its real power is in the mid- to late-game. A shame that opposing Wrenn and Six and Life from the Loam encourage you to exile (opposing) lands with it.
Hmm, maybe the Fomori made those "Coin Empire" coins Quintorius is researching if it wasn't Ixalani who created them (like this block's stories imply)?
Built my first Modern deck with this card on Cockatrice. (The deck is an RG Midrange deck.) I've consistently been able to meet the flip condition by the turn after I play Matzalantli, but good gosh is flipping this expensive (and leaves it tapped). The Core has tapped for over 10 mana every time, though.
Looks like a pretty good card! The front side is Yawgmoth, Thran Physician at home, but you're really here for the backside, and quite a few (part-)black decks dump their hands quickly enough to flip this in the mid-game.
Looks like finality counters still let you dodge them with Dash (especially on Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer).
I haven't done a deep dive into the lore yet... Has it been mentioned what, flavor-eise, is the reason for the gnome tokens? Anything is possible in a Magic set, just never figured gnomes would be found on a plane like Ixalan.
Apparently, the Oltec are huge fans of making (Kachina? Dogu?)-like construct gnomes.
So, of course, graveyard hate prevents this god from recurring.
This god also can be delayed for at least 2 turns (attack-wise) by flinging a kill spell at him.
At least its flip-back condition is the easiest I've seen so far. Flipping this back to Aclazotz the turn after he dies and retreats into his temple seems realistic and fairly consistent.
care to elaborate why? i mean the deck will be dedicated to forcing people to discard. but arent the number of card draw spells in decks very large.
Sorry, I mainly play Modern and otherwise pay the most attention to 1-vs.-1 formats (e.g. Legacy, Vintage).
Aclazotz looks like a fairly easy fit in Mainly Black, Totally Not Blue Midrange or Control, where you're the player with 1 or fewer cards in hand.

The heads from each art look a bit different. That's the only complaint I have. Aside from that, An "A" grade card to me! Will find play in treasure-themed decks, for sure.
You should see the arms. One of them is a pterosaur. The other is a dragon. You can tell by the arm placement.
I was expecting fixed cascade, but that is just more flexible cascade and why is there someone whose name is just "Grandpa."
At this point, I expect a "Discover 0" or "Discover 1" statement on a 1-2-mana-value card. Yeah, Discover is too flexible alright.
To be fair, there's an important character named "Grandpa" in the first Klonoa game (no better name is ever given!) and another supporting character named "Gramps" in Final Fantasy Dimensions (better name eventually given).

Your 1-card enabler: Urza's Saga for Heap Doll/Hope of Ghirapur/Haywire Mite!
