............. WHY IS THOUGHTSEIZE SO EXPENSIVE

Because wizards refuses to print cards the format actually needs Instead they are content to print giants and say the set is for the betterment of the format.

they make a new format which spans the last decade and then pushes it down our throat's without acknowledging the fact that a lot of people weren't here to get those several year old staples the format runs on.

Also they were stupid and made it a rare when it is uncommon quality.

Can't speak to MM specifically(not getting mine till Sunday cause my LGS is closed on Saturdays) But the overall quality of wizards is slipping. In a single pack of M13 I got 3 miscuts and the entirety of RTR block had a lot more miscuts than I've seen in awhile. Not that they are particularly bad the cards are still playable but it still begs the question,"What are they up to if this many cards are getting miscut in the last year of printing?"

But simply assuming someone could do harm using an advancement doesn't mean that advancement should cease to be found. Then again this is one of those topics that go back and forth with no real solution... At least in my eyes :/

With every advancement you need to weight the pros and cons. Do we need this verses what harm could it do?

That makes more sense to me. The bluntness helped me understand a bit more. The thing is I seem to have grown a bit numb toward the thin lines my research walks on (but that is just how it goes with identification software). If anyone recalls last summer I worked mainly with iris and face identification (we even did some work with heat signatures as a form of identification). That is the most intrusive work I've ever helped with, and judging by the think clearance form subjects had to sign, I was right to be a bit hesitant.

The only solace I get in my research is that the data we take is not connected directly too the subject in any way. AKA if the CIA came in demanding information we have to shrug our solders and say 'well, nope'.

To quote Jurassic Park "Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should" Whenever working with scientific advances you must always be aware of their implications outside of the laboratory. True, the data would not be able to be taken by government agencies the methods of gaining the information can be. Once the process is created and knowledge of it spread it cannot be undone.

I must admit, I don't follow. I've been looking at purely the scientific research leading to the decision, not the legal end. Though I am a bit intrigued about how it raises government power? I assume you mean more toward the actual use for identification in it's basic form, regardless of medium? **bare with me, my legal knowledge isn't the best. I do my research following all the ethical guidelines necessary. Also this isn't a counter argument, I just don't know honestly what you're getting at :/

I think, and this is my view which may differ from bunnys, is that science for sciences sake is great. You have moved forward in your field and have discovered/empowered something new. The problem rests with it's applications.

To make blunt, "It is now legal for an arresting officer to, against your will and without a warrant, take a sample of your genetic makeup." If that doesn't send shivers down your spine nothing will. It violates the fourth amendment right against unlawful search and seizure. Once your DNA is put into their system it is their forever. Now put this power in the hands of a government that has a poor track record of breaking it's own laws to get it's way. What part of this scenario is good? Their is no argument for the ethical rights of this procedure. it is wholly invasive both of the person and their privacy. The law states that DNA can be taken from someone convicted of a violent crime and that's fine, but just being convicted is ludicrous.

Also anybody have any 'sleeper' cards they like in the new set(s). Meaning the new rav block? I generally like talking speculation so I figured I'd bring it up here :-p see what the clan mates think.

I feel like when BGX decks realize they can sweep the entire board of an affinity deck by casting gaze of granite with x equaling 0 or 1 it will be sided in affinity heavy metas.

I feel dredgevine could want Rot farm Skeleton. 4/1 beater that "dredges" 4.

Ruric thar is gonna cause some hated games in EDH

Spike Jester could see play in reviving some sort of Rb goblins in modern.

Varolze seems to be picking up steam in modern and standard. At least their is alot more play then I thought their would be.

Blood Scrivner will see play. maybe not until rotation but he will see standard play.

    Their you go.

Any ideas? It's only a rough sketch and I don't really know how to play the format so I am kinda at a lost how to create the deck. The only cards I really want to be on the deck are Blood Vassal and Breeding Pit (old time favourites) but I will accept to tweak anything else Smile Thanks, guys.

Hell's caretaker. He's beastly. Like a better doomed necromancer that can be used over and over. Got him in karador. Him with bloodghast or anything else that is easy to recur without the help of spells turns into a nightmare.

Went up to my lgs and picked up some nice things tonight.

A couple good things. They are in better condition then the scans make them look. The sleeves they are in are kinda old but they are pieces of Karador EDH.

So I would like to take a small detour from our current topics to address the state of our clan activity, the CMB tournament. It was held just this past winter. But with Hasboro shutting down cockatrice and presumably any other program that may resemble it, the question presents itself, "How, if at all, will the CMB tourney survive?" The cost wil make it hard for us to do it on MTGO and location stops us from doing it in person. Thoughts?

What's that celebrity roast? I read the thread but I didn't quite understand what the contest is about. Is that like we are roleplaying Liliana? Sorry for my confusion, Frown

That's exactly what it was. a few of you guys missed it sorry bout that. i did most of the write up for lili. If anyone wants to read the thread and look at any pf the other posts and give their opinions I would welcome the input. I have been lead on this project, having written the majority of CMBs post for liliana. I will say that I didn't like "Jace's" post. very hard to read. It didn't translate well to paper what he was trying to do.

    EDIT

Well, all the clan contest entries are in. feast, do you want to do the judging?

All right. How do I do that? I know the criteria but where to post it? Do I just post it in the thread for the roast? Also before I submit anything I am going to post my thoughts in CMB thread and If anyone has any comments on any particular post they can weigh in first. Also do you know if we critique our own?

I Would play it at BB cause it curves into lili 2.0. That could hurt.

There's always the hope that wotc will print blood in the watering can on their own Nodding the Affirmative

I actually like that card. depending on the cost rack decks may want it. if it ends up costing too much nobody would want it though. Not to say I didn't prefer blood but this card is cool too.

I hope so, I don't have a single copy Slant

Wizards said they would use modern masters to print cards too powerful for standard or those which use mechanics they aren't willing to reprint. Thoughtseize doesn't fall into either of these. It also doesn't fit the requirements for mythic being a basic utility spell. Yes it is one of the best at what it dose but it's not mythic. So I feel within the next 2 years we will see it printed at rare in a standard set. Not until snappy rotates though. This should make availability skyrocket and cost plummet.

    At least I can dream.
