the ability to transfer a card from my hand to my graveyard for the low, low cost of R, is not a major selling point for pyroblast. I have NEVER in all my tournament experience seen a situation where a player would profit from voluntarily throwing away a pyroblast simply to pad the graveyard or storm count. I have however seen pyroblast misdirected to a land, multiple times.

What if u neo-duress a hand with no creatures? Duress would have been better.

card A has option A and costs X mana.
card B has option A and relevent option B and costs X mana, but requires insiginficant amount of life.

card B is strictly better. neo-duress is strictly better than paleo-duress.
just like street wraith is strictly better than urza/mishra bauble. 2 life is insignificant in the balls to the wall resource race of vintage speed.

I really hope this card is confirmed or denounced soon. I suspect its incorrectly spoiled. this reminds me of when moonlight bargain was spoiled at 4 mana and everyone was hot for the new fact or fiction. then it cost 5 and instantly became unplayable crap. neo-duress will probably end up costing 1B, or otherwise be nerfed.

vintage: this + duress... sure it's good, but do you really play 4 of each? what happens when you draw them late game? do you really want to risk the 8 life to play all 4?

YES. this is STRICTLY better than old duress. old duress is played very widely. everyone currently playing old-duress will immediately switch to 4xnew-duress and then maybe play 2-4 more old-duress on top of that. duress is Extremely good now, bc merchant scroll IS the metagame. a Better Duress will be the most impactful new card for vintage since Empty the Warrens.

red elemental blast is strictly better than pyroblast. you should either play a mix of the two (to weaken cabal therapy, meddling mage, extirpate, etc) or only REB.
if you are trying to destroy a blue permanent, pyroblast can be misdirected to any permanent. REB however can only be misdirected to another Blue permanent. thus if there is only one blue permanent in play, REB cant be misdirected. of course if your trying to counter a blue spell, then either REB or pblast can be misdirected to the misdirection itself. this is only relevent for destroying blue permanents.

Like I said, off the top of my head, the only creatures I can think of that I might actually want to play from my hand in Vintage are tog and wielder. Maybe negator. Everybody else is thrown into the gf and returned to play at the first chance.

you are wrong. creatures are big in vintage right now. Gat, Flash and fish are all tier decks. all use creatures. welder and negator are certainly not current threats. you are not up to date on vintage metagame.

Vintage doesn't actually need the neo-duress that much though; not when unmask, therapy and the real duress are still around. Furthermore, the advantages the neo-duress has over the old one, the ability to target creatures isn't all that revelant. The only creatures I can think of off the top of my head that I would want discarded in Vintage are tog and wielder.

the two best creatures in vintage right now are quirion dryad and protean hulk. if you duress opponent turn 1 and they are holding, [land, mox, mox, flash, flash, hulk] youd really like to be taking their creature.

Gat has a hard time winning if they dont get an early creature. otherwise theyre just cycling through their deck for no real reason. being able to duress dryad turn 1, is certainly worth 2 life.
neo-duress, as currently spoiled, will effectively replace old duress.

in playing online, so far Ive seen
    -stonecloaker in monowhite aggro
    -red spirit guide in belcher
-sinew sliver in counter-sliver and teamed w muscle sliver in rogue GWU threshold.
-magus of the bazaar in a very bad ichorid deck
-blood knight in mono red burn/aggro
    -extirpate in WB disruption decks

damnation and tomb of yawgmoth have made zero appearances so far. massacre/infest/perish/natures ruin/virtues ruin are all cheaper and effective enough.

I agree Simian Spirit Guide is going to impact more than Extirpate. 8spiritguide.dec is going to be a force.

Dertivore on the other hand is COMPLETE CRAP. I cant believe anyone thinks this is remotely playable in any format. did he not read it as X3R? by the time you pay that cost for a relevent number, you could play Rain of Salt and get the effect immediately! or better yet Wildfire.

So whats the plan vs Extirpate starting one month from now?
If there are any vintage tournaments between now and Planar Chaos's legality, I will bring Ichorid to give it one last hurrah.

the problem is that fish runs like 6 duals and 4 forces which cost >$200 at retail now.
there's nothing top tier that can get by without playing any power at all.
If you can find 5 proxy tourneys, Ichorid is incredibly cheap once you knock off the bazaars.

turn 1. play R&D secret lair, tap for colorless, play Phyrexian Dreadnought from your hand. choose to "bury it" rather than sac 12 power worth of creatures. "bury" does not exist in current rules, so it sits there in play.
