A New and Exciting Beginning

The End of an Era

piracy charm was designed as an alternate win, that was still useful in normal situations. so if Iona gets exiled, I get time+volt and cycle twister and regrowth indefinitely, and every iteration, I piracy charm them and then extirpate what they discard until they have 6 cards in hand+library and then twister kills them.

    however...
this would take forever to accomplish, and I thought since it constituted an infinite loop, I could just demonstrate it once, and then get the win. but Ive been told that since it involves random elements that I actively control, its not an "infinite loop" under the formal magic rules definition, and so would have to play it out, meaning it would be a draw every time.

Ive since replaced piracy charm with fire/ice, which I am not a huge fan of, since in normal situations, red mana is a little hard to guarantee.
Ive also considered faerie conclave and jace in that slot as "useful in normal situations + alt win"

regrowth and reclaim are both undervalued cards, w obvious tremendous synergy w ancestral recall. reclaim is also slightly important to the combo, since it lets you put twister on top of library during yawgwill turn so it doesnt get exiled, which is relevant if you have to play through certain kinds of yard hate, or have lost Iona.

    I would not cut library

the spraypaint technique is innovative, but this is the first one that really makes good use of it.

retro art nouveau style is very under-explored genre. great exceution

I finally overcame the inertia to buy acrylics and make cards again. here is my first acrylic card, just used for the background, and sharpie for the stencil portrait

photo is a little blurry. I'll post a scan when I get to office tomorow

Working on a playset, and not sure on which frame is better. Votes are 2-1 for the left one, but I could use more opinions.

emphatic vote for frame on the right. the way it sinks into the crops is almost surreal in an Escher architecture way.

    @Lupe

I like the Pixie Queen. Quinton Hoover's pseudo-cell shaded style doesnt get enough love.

    I like blue mana battery.
I dont like thoughtseize. purple things attacking your head = discard, is cliche.
harold mcneil (aka nether void) is by far the worst mtg artist of all time

theres always one that slips under the radar. Ingot Chewer makes it as sideboard tech at SCG top8. for same cost as oxidize in better color, it dodges chalice@1 and thorn amethyst, and removes bridge from below.

-gaddock teeg is underwhelming. marginaly disrupting, and legendary is substantial drawback, making him guaranteed vulnerable to chain of vapor and spot removal.
-spellstutter sprite is a fine fish card. the most broken cards are broken specifically bc they cost 0 or 1. the tempo advantage of just throwing this guy down to snipe off a brainstorm is worth it.
-mirror entity is not cheap. jotun grunt and t-goyf are good bc you put 2 mana into them and they beat face for 4+ etc. m entity is a mana sink, and thus unplayable.
    -ponder is solid for gat.
-rings of brithearth is kiddy stuff. if your playing metalworker you have 2 card win already w staff of domination. theres no way the interaction w fetch/wastes etc is worth continualy paying 2mana.
-sower of temptation is imo strictly worse than control magic. enchantments are by far the most durable permanents. if you stole a darksteel, for example, you want to be as confident as possible it will stay on your side.
-eyes of wisent is probably scary for blue decks, but the problem is if your playing green based fish, theres not that much you are doing that a good control player will feel the need to counter. this is easily played around.

I would add moonglove extract to the list. Ive heard talk of this as sb material for workshop decks that dont want barbarian ring for some reason. weldable shock. free activation might make it playable where pyrite spellbomb was not.

I would be surprised to see anything other than thoughtseize, thorn, ponder, and spellstutter appearing in tier decks.

I disagree. psychatog is finisher of choice again. you will want to kill that w REB more often than you'd want to simply dump a card for lavaman. I agree this is narrow case, but it is relevent. barely.
