Easiest thing would be to have a notification occur on creation of the extra window. I'm gonna guess though you have no idea where to start with this at all though. And I'm not really sure where I would start with that either. Maybe auto-hot key, I think that has some event based triggers in it.

I'm going to go ahead and just say something I feel ridiculous saying. The system resource requirements of the MTGO V4 client seem way too high for tablet use.

I got MTGO to run stable with this graphics card.

    http://enuinc.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1773

The key is the 128-bit memory interface for the VRAM.

It worked on my AMD and Intel systems. with 16GB of system RAM I ran MTGO for 12 hours with no crashes and intermittent play.

Lessons learned from the V2 to V3 switchover: Lots of players sold out their collections because we had a bad implementation

Solution for V3 to V4 switchover: Make it REALLY hard to make trades and especially to make your whole collection trade-able at the same time.

It's going to more complicated than that for you if you've uninstalled 2 times. It's highly likely you have another piece of software causing the faults.

Yea it could be trusted certificates. It could be a lot of things. It could be that those WRT54s are nearing the end of their functional lives. I've been seeing those get replaced a lot recently for fails. I had to retire mine about 4 years ago because it wasn't working well anymore.

But hell, according to our esteemed forum mod, it can't be hardware related (although my years of experience, certifications, and degrees scream at me intermittent hardware faults, incorrect set-ups) you should check those trusted certificates.

Also, that is your router, and not your modem. Your modem has it's own IP address that it isn't showing you when you trace. Your modem is the Hop 2 that isn't responding (even though your modem should always respond to an internal ping).

Also, you never did mention whether you have cable, dsl, or what going on. If you have a modem supplied from your ISP that also has a router (non-wifi) embedded in it, with your router plugged into that, you would be seeing these issues because the ports would not be open between NATs. Also, this would be a valid reason for the hop 2 to be non-responsive as your network isn't properly configured.

Most games and internet services don't have strict port forward requirements and home users can run all sorts of terrible configurations without ever having trouble.

Tickets consumed isn't revenue. The revenue is only reported when tickets are purchased from the store. I used to be work on websites and games using similar structures (LIKE POKER!!!!!) and we were CONSTANTLY trying to slow down people going "infinite" because they are the biggest GD leeches around. The best case scenario is that no one but the house makes a profit, or at least as few people as possible. It keeps the entire economy healthier.

Any accountant will mark a ticket sold as a dollar added to revenue and a dollar (or perhaps slightly less) added to future liabilities, and a ticket consumed as a dollar (again, maybe slightly less) removed from future liabilities. Profit (not revenue, but profit) is affected by changes to future liabilities, otherwise you could achieve a million dollar (short term) profit just by taking out a bank loan for a million dollars.

People that go infinite in Magic or poker provide a goal to aspire toward for non-infinite players, keeping them spending.

Things would be different if variance was lower (both Magic and poker have similar degrees of variance; in both games, an outstanding player in a field of solid players can expect about a 30% event win rate in 8 person events, whereas in a lower variance game like chess, the outstanding player will win 95% or more of the time, and in a higher variance game like best of 7 rock-paper-scissors, the outstanding player may only manage a 15-18% event win rate). If variance was lower, the presence of outstanding players would dissuade unskilled players from entering fee-based events. But, the key fact is, weaker players can and do win MTGO events - they open a Soul of Theros in Limited, or their decent-but-not-great Blue Devotion deck is paired against red decks more than anything else in Standard and never sees a Supreme Verdict deck.

Most importantly, weaker players get close to winning often enough that they feel it is in their grasp and continue supplying revenue.

As for slowing down infinite players - if that was WotC's goal, they would make multiqueue play against the rules. (Even if they lack the ability to enforce rules against it, they would tell people not to do it). Instead, they offer significant rewards to becomes or aspire to becoming infinite, such as promo Gaea's Cradle this month, and Show and Tell next month.

Do you have a CPA? Because, when I worked in the field, the accountants did not do what you suggest at all.

I don't think anyone is saying Grinders need to be eliminated, but the amount of infinite players has to be kept to minimums and not allow to balloon out of control. Infinite players are a net loss, sure they might buy a special package every now and then (like a FTV if they are a collector) and sure they take cards out of the system frequently. But in all honesty Grinders are resource consumption bloat and they leech more than they provide.

It's important to keep people putting tickets into the system.

I'll make it clear. Every year the $ buy price of tickets from Bot Chains (and their purchasing price) gets closer to $1. You can directly chart that to the increase in infinite players. Infinite players put very little new tickets into the system. WotC only pays out tournaments in packs. Infinite players get 100% of their tickets from Bots and other players. Bots get their tickets from other players. As more players become infinite, bots get less tickets and hand out more tickets, this pushes ticket prices closer to parity. As ticket prices approach parity bots need to turn over more volume to counteract shrinking margins, but as more players approach infinite, they switch from being ticket providers to ticket takers, which shrinks the pool of tickets.

This is a real breakdown of the MTGO economy, there are too many grinders and infinite players. Ticket prices are too close to parity, and that is because there are too many infinite players.

WotC is making money, but they aren't making as much as they should be for the size of the playerbase. I would bet that when choosing between putting their cash in development or infrastructure they have to choose infrastructure to have a greater weight. They don't want to drive players away so they need to slow down the amount of players than can go infinite in order to keep revenue at pace with infrastructure needs.

The trend is there. The high price of MMA and VMA, the continual lowering of payout value. But heck, I'm a casual player it benefits me for you guys to put the Bot Chains out of business eventually.

Who provides your internet service? Is it Cable? DSL? There is a faulty piece of equipment causing network crashes. Can you stream a movie or show still? A TraceRT doesn't use a persistent connection, it sends out a packet and receives pings back as that packet goes through the internet.

Usually when hop 2 has issues it has good upstream sending, but is crashing handshakes (not returning the packet to your computer) Faulty connections show up as an * with the following connections still good. If a route point was totally dead, you would see the TraceRT terminate at that point.

My assumption is you have a failing router, or modem and given you level of technological expertise shown I would suggest calling your ISP and asking for a service call. Hopefully the problem is in the wires and not in your equipment. I've seen it both ways.

A few years back squirrels chewed the cable to my house, and I could browse the net and download stuff, but everything was SUPER slow, and I couldn't maintain a persistent connection to game servers without my ping going to 9000! (seriously I'm not making just making a DBZ joke here)

Network infrastructure problems are tricky to trace.

    What's your internal network infrastructure.

For example, my TraceRT goes hop 1 is my bedroom hub, hop 2 is my main router, hop 3 is my cable modem.

Also, like right now at work I just did a tracert to Google.com. 1st hop is our firewall, 2nd is our modem, 3rd is the fiber hub next door, and 4th is google's data center down the freeway from me.

As to the killing of block constructed. I'm not surprised, it's got a reputation for being the fast track to going infinite. It's in WotC best interest to limit the amount of players that can go infinite.

I don't think you understand how WotC make money.

People that are 'infinite', or those close to infinite, are their BEST customers, not their worst. (Except for one category of customers, the people that bulk-open boosters).

Every 8-4 draft that fires makes WotC USD 64 (rounded) whether it is won by a shark or a newb. That's $8 of revenue for each entrant. Those that are infinite enter drafts much more.

This, incidentally, is why online poker sites do not try to get rid of the sharks there.

Thanks. I reported it, but it's good to know it's a known issue.

I did do a Google search for "Gifts Ungiven bug," but all I found were lots of Gifts decks with Abrupt Decay and Liliana. Smile

Although...I wonder why this comes up in the new client. I thought all those card interactions were handled server-side.

It is handled server side. It's not a client issue. I would guess that the programmers (who in my experience with bug reporting don't play Magic) figured there must always be a set of cards going into the hand and a set of cards going into the graveyard in order to make the code simpler because they are total HACKS (I've put MTGO under a de-compiler, the client is a POS). So instead of writing a complicated piece of elegant code, they brute forced it and 1 card will always go into the grave and 1 will always go into your hand.

A couple things, those 5 card packs feel like the analogue to those rip off $2 impulse buy packs they put in big box stores during Conflux and Alara Reborn. Wouldn't mind those being in the store for those rare times I want to waste money on ripping a pack online, but for an event payout they suck. However, when they were printed in paper, it was 6 uncommons for $4, and a very fast way to pull Path to Exile or other value uncommons.

As to the killing of block constructed. I'm not surprised, it's got a reputation for being the fast track to going infinite. It's in WotC best interest to limit the amount of players that can go infinite.

My guess is it comes back next block with the 5-card booster payout.

And, I'd enjoy playing Sealed with 15-18 of the 5 card boosters over 5-6 regular boosters. Double the uncommons means a doubly better deck. Me and some pals did some sealed and drafts with those because there was a Target right across the street from the college when they were out. It was probably the best sealed experience I ever had.
