So what's the consensus on Light Up The Stage? It seems like most people are either playing it 4-of or not at all. I'm currently running straight Boros burn and don't even know what I would cut for it.
I have only liked Light up the Stage in the Rakdos Bump Version. I wouldn't play it in straight Boros.
So after seeing some lists and stuff, I decided to sleeve up Mardu with Light up the Stage and see if it was good. This is the list I ran tonight. I wish I had some blackcleave cliffs, but alas
I ended up 4-0 beating amulet titan, G tron, U tron and Vannifar pod. The pod deck was the only deck to take a game from me and the deck felt very smooth and consistent. I did board out light up the stage every round, but the match-ups were not about card quantity. I think the reason I like this, is that it is obviously a burn deck, but sequencing your spells is slightly different than in boros, so it almost feels like a different deck. Also, your game ones are just brutal against most opponents. I will, in immediate future, continue with this build. It honestly felt better than Boros and has felt better in my testing. But obviously more testing must be done.
Did you get to live the dream and Rakdos Charm against the pod deck?
On a side note, do you guys like shatter effects against amulet, or are we just supposed to race and hope they don’t have the nuts?
A few notes include:
1) Is 0 Snapcaster a sin? Mission Briefing is slightly harder to cast but is a Spell for delver, fills the GY for Drake, certain interactions (like surgical) can’t interact with surveil as well, etc
2) Not entirely sold on Crackling Drake yet. I love that it doesn’t care about GY hosers, so I can play it with RIP. Just wish there was a way to protect it on 4, Shame we can’t support Disrupting shoals.
3) The counter suite I chose doesn’t work the best with Path to exile, so any recommendations there would be appreciated.
@TheGratGig How does Tallowisp fetching Steel of the Godhead sound? I really like the toolbox angle that can be added to the deck, I’m just wondering if it’s worth making the slots for?
Hey mnesci, I think you should give firespout a try over pyroclasm because of the situation that comes up once in a while where you get to wrath the board, and still keep flipped delver around.
Hey Chaughey, I have been messing around with your technology, and wanted to get your thoughts on a lingering souls + godless shrine SB package for a way to become more inevitable against midrange or control decks that can remove our threats pretty easily 1 for 1? To compliment this, I have worked more Arid Mesa and Polluted Delta into the manabase. I’d love to get your thoughts on this and I’ve also considered trying Nacatl in the main to increase threat density (but maybe that’s going a little deep).
I’m wondering if Shard Volley becomes a stronger pick main board now just to speed our clock up a bit more if everything else is slowing down. A two-of may make sense, possibly putting some combination of Lightning Helix and Skullcrack in the sideboard.
Splitting D-Rev and Smash to Smithereens has always been weird to me because you are already putting stomping ground into your deck. If my opp has a troublesome enchantment, I’d want to make sure I can destroy it rather than drawing a smash or only being able to board in 2 D Revs. The split seems better if the goal is to beat affinity for example.
As far as Shard Volley goes, I have a friend that loves jamming the full set, but I usually can only go as high as 1-2.
I have always liked Ensnaring Bridge in a burn sideboard because not many people see it coming. With the result of the last GP, do you guys think Bridge lost its surprise appeal? Or is it too good even if people do see it coming?
I figured I should jump in on why Deflecting Palm is bad. The two main reasons are already mentioned by a majority of thread followers with 1) Palm is too reactive for a proactive deck and 2) Just because it was amazing in one experience, doesn't mean it deserves space in your sideboard. I have a few personal experiences that go into more detail on why I'm not a fan.
The decks that it's fantastic against just don't show up much at all. (Such as bogles, infect, goryos, etc.) I can't bring it in against the decks I really want it against such as Death's Shadow, goyf decks, eldrazi tron because of the heavy discard spells. Most times against Etron they are either going to strip it with TKS or put chalice on 2 causing palm to be a fog(at best). I don't even really like it in the mirror because of skullcrack.
*The only good thing about Palm is that sometimes my opponents will make extra conservative lines to play around the palms that aren't in my 75.
When crafting a burn sideboard, is it usually better to avoid mising because we don’t really have filtering in our deck? For reference, here is my current board that I’m thinking for the weekend:
I'm not sure what you're asking, but if it's whether playing singletons in your side is fine even though there's no filtering, the answer is yes.[/quote]

I agree on Firecraft vs control. I'd rather have Firecraft than SS in general.
Very situational, but Firecraft can be Spell Quellered, while Sudden Shock cannot. This has actually come up for me in testing against UW/Jeskai as it's one of the tougher match ups recently lol.
side: Nothing (At first I wanted to, but then he said "Yup, don't have a lot against burn in my side" which Prompted me not to in the end. It was true, but it Could have been a nice bluff though.)
Even if you have nothing to sb, you should at least pretend to sb because it just gives your opp. less info.
