  • posted a message on [Discussion] Cards That Should be Banned in Modern
Wizards bans reliable, format-warping combos that go off on turn one or two. Don't you think if Through the Breach allowed such, the Pro Tour would have seen more of it? My friend has a deck built to do this. It's average.

I like Wurmcoil Engine. Proactive answer, isn't anywhere near dead without a Crusader on the table, and just kinda laughs when one is dropped.

Clearly you are reading only the words you want to read in my posts. I'll just let the thousands of lurkers on this thread decide who they agree with. I really don't care anymore. You aren't worth my time.

If you through the breach the titan and he's killed you lose 2 cards. If you hardcast it and it get's pathed you lose 1. Losing 1 card is beter than losing 2 generally.

What does having Through the Breach in hand do if you have no other tanks? And if you do have another tank in hand, why are you dropping Titan? When you get the Titan on the table, your mana should jump to the point where you shouldn't need to cheat fat into play. And you should be able to grab Eye of Ugin with the Titan, which can provide you all the fat you need. What exactly is preserving the Through the Breach going to do, help you get a hasty Overgrown Battlement?

    Quote from Deku
Another reason to swing with titan as early as possible then.

False. You leave your mana base vulnerable for your opponent's entire turn. There is no benefit to jumping the gun.

    Quote from Deku
You don't have emrakul in hand, that's why I said fetch 3 CP's and an EYE OF UGIN(Hint:it searches for colourless creatures). If you aleady have one post in play you're untapping with 16 mana from the 4 posts and since you already cast breach you'd presumably have the other 4 mana it takes to search for emmy and cast it on one turn.

Wait, Eye of Ugin searches for colorless creatures? 8D

You seem to think that by presenting corner cases you can disprove me. If you have one Cloudpost, and if your opponent is tapped out, and if they have no game-changing responses, it can be useful to go mainphase with it. The one turn of difference between main phase and end step Breach in that very specific scenario is relevant in the combo matchup, and maybe if aggro blazes out to a quick start.

    Quote from Deku
You said originally you always breached at EOT. I said it depended on the circumstances. Thanks for confirming you now agree with me.

We disagree because I default to EoT while you default to main phase, it's not my fault if I'm a better player. Well, it kinda is.

If your opponent is tapped out during your turn there is very little benefit to waiting on it apart from in situations like the mirror. Once you've decided to wait you're commited to waiting untill the end step to get full value out of it. If they just pass with mana for removal up you're in a super awkward position. If you're playing against a deck that has 4 PTE and 3 Bant charms d you really want to cast the into the breach anymore? It might be better at that point to untap and hardcast the titan and save the breach, at which point you just timewalked yourself.

Also take into account if you main phase it you get 4 triggers for the titan that will be untapped in your next turn. If you wait untill EOT you will have 2 untapped lands and 2 more tapped lands. If you mainphase it when your opponent is tapped out you can assure getting 3 CP's and a Eye of Ugin which most of the time let's you hardcast emrakul the next turn.

    1. If they're tapped out, they're probably playing aggro and there really isn't any downside to Breaching main phase. I wasn't referring to that situation. Against some decks there's little reason to wait, sure, but IN GENERAL waiting is correct.

    2. If they're playing Path to Exile, I'm definitely dropping Titan through the breach. I'm losing him at EoT anyway, if they Path him or Charm him that's just kind of a waste on their part. If I hardcast him and they have the removal, that's much worse for me.

    3. Usually if I'm casting Through the Breach I already have one or two Posts, which will benefit from all the Titan lands as well, giving me enough mana to do anything on the turn I swing with Titan.

    4. If you have Emrakul in hand when you play Through the Breach, you're retarded if you drop Titan instead.

    Learn to play.

Trust me, Deku. Hold the Breach. Keeping the mana open means you can float green over the Blood Moon and Beast Within it, if you've got it. If they counter the Breach, they don't counter the creature, and usually you can just untap and drop it freely since they tapped down on their own turn. Comprende?

Haha, I do agree with the Chrome Mox benefitting Storm before Control in this regard, but do not underestimate slipknot as he vividly follows the Modern format.

Oh, I'm sure he does, but there's no way you can make a claim like that and know for sure that control benefits more from Mox without any event results, testing, et cetera, to say otherwise. I've been playing competitive Magic since Chrome Mox came out and it has seen a home in virtually every combo deck since its printing. Not a chance control benefits more. The only archetype that doesn't want to see it unbanned is probably Twelvepost.

I agree with you on Visions, though. And I think JTMS can come off too, I think the Pro Tour established the speed of this format. Control needs to have a foothold or two to rein in this format (that's "rein in," not "reign in," so don't get confused, guys).

Storm decks cannot afford the two cards it takes to cast mox. Also they already can win on turn 1-2 so all your doing is making it possible to mana leak on turn one, and cast thirst for knowledge on turn 2, and cast wrath of god or gifts ungiven on turn 3. That will definitely make combo decks better wont it.

I'm pretty sure you're just talking out of your ass here, if I were building combo the first four cards in my list would be 4x Chrome Mox for a reason. I'd love to see Chrome Mox unbanned (I really want to play No-Stick) but there isn't the slightest chance WotC is about to unleash that card on a format FLOODED with storm combo. And yes, they would base their decision on the Pro Tour, because it's the only relevant Modern tournament to have taken place.

Also FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, MY EYES. Stop posting in blue when you quote people, you're the only person on the entire forum who does it, and every time you do, it makes me want to gouge my eyes out with a dull, bloody spoon. Not all of us run the default forum color scheme. PLEASE be considerate.

If any of you didn't watch Travis Woo's deck tech video, he talks about dropping Titan through the breach at the opponent's end step. This is the correct play. His ETB grabs two Cloudposts, then you get to untap those Posts, swing with him to grab two more Locus lands, and profit a whole crapton of mana. This prevents sorcery speed LD from slowing you, and is generally enough mana on board to go nuts. Plus if they drop a Blood Moon effect, you can respond to it by getting Forests if you need them. Remember that Through the Breach is an Instant, and that it sets up an end step trigger.

Elvish Piper is cute and plays relatively nicely with Breach (Breach Piper, activate to drop a tank). Since Punishing Grove is really terrible against us otherwise it might stick. But it is cute. I'm wary of cutesy things.

So do it and stop talking about it, hot damn. Mono-green was the shell, the splash is the next level. And I'm pretty sure the red splash is the best, though the white splash for Knight of the Reliquary was interesting.

I like Snapcaster in an AEther Vial based aggro-control deck. BUG, with Bob and Tarmogoyf to maximize the Vial on 2. 2cc counters, cheap removal, cheap discard, and hate for almost every deck. This deck seems really good. I wish I knew a good deckbuilder. Maybe I'll give Verhey a call.
