Stapler posted a message on Club Flamingo ☆ Exclusively for Custom Card Connoisseurs and Great PeopleHello, and welcome to the dumb.Posted in: Custom Card Contests and Games
Since I'm an Izzet mage at heart, I decided to judge each of your cards in two different ways.
The cards that represent your personality will be judged using the red, expressive side of me and is done through pictures. The card art represents my overall feelings about the card, while the doodles on the card are general comments.
The cards that represent your playstyle will be judged using the blue, analytical side of me and is done through excerpts of made-up journals from various professions and people. I tried avoiding using magic terminology at all, but I think I made it clear what I was referring to for the most part.
Please enjoy and don't kill me.

Surveillance on the Bloodhound Gang remains difficult. They got their hideout locked down tighter than a pickle jar. Can't imagine them boys like being stuck inside all day. I know I don't. Least they got booze. This case might not be for me; I was never much for stake-outs. Never much liked steak neither. The money's not even that great. Dear Mom,
My first day of bootcamp was rough. All the other boys were laughing at me when I told them my skillset; they told me I was way too plain. The sergeant yelled at me for wearing two different colours of clothing when I really should have only been wearing one. I even got criticized for doing the drills in a way that was "too obvious". I'm not sure if I'm cut out to be a soldier.

A book review by Glenn Stone;
Escape by Cynthia Morane is a fairly interesting adventure-mystery story. Its plot is fairly open-ended and leaves a lot to the imagination; there are many possible outcomes of the events that transpire in the book for the reader to make up on their own, and the book actively encourages. However, it does require prior knowledge of a number of books from the author's back catalog, and the ending is fairly lackluster. I look forward to future releases from this author, but I wasn't entirely impressed with this one.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Johnson;
Sarah's progress in school is being impeded by her difficulty in understanding concepts fast enough; she is being limited in what she can do, and I cannot help both her and her other schoolmates in equal measure. She also makes frivolous distinctions in her work; she will write "one", when "he" or "she" is more appropriate. She is a perfectly fine and charming student otherwise, but she cannot continue under my tutelage until she has caught up with the rest of her peers.
VERDICT: Sarah must get a bit faster to continue studying under my watch.

KittyCupCake posted a message on Mafia Theory and DiscussionPosted in: MafiaQuote from VoidWhen do you type of the flavor for your game? As in, do you create the flavor when the Start/End of Day/Night occur or do you have everything pre-typed so that when the Start/End of Day/Night comes you can just post it?
For my games, I've had a skeleton of most of the flavor ready pre-game, and filled in some more personal details when the time came for them.
For example, in Zodiac, I had notes on every player's death scene, as well as notes on their post-game flavor if they end-gamed. But, I filled in details when posting them at the start/end of nights to reflect some events of the day and/or the players involved in those deaths.
For Deitriptychos, I had a much more complicated flow chart of possible events and their general effects on the flavor, but with very little detail. I only fleshed out those ideas when typing them up (and I started writing them at the start of Twilight for Night scenes, as soon as the mafia decided on a kill for Dawn scenes, and for the Day scenes, some were written during the preceding Night and some on the fly when posting Vote counts, depending on how important they were).
I don't think I'd ever fully pre-type lynch scenes, because I like to let their flavor be influenced by the players's actions leading up to a lynch. -

MOON_E posted a message on Club Flamingo ☆ Exclusively for Custom Card Connoisseurs and Great PeoplePosted in: Custom Card Contests and GamesQuote from TacticalCelebrantThat's my problem with unleash. Being able to block and a +1/+1 counter seem like pretty weak options to choose from. Not very splashy, but at least it's a balanced enough to allow you to choose once in a while. Doing something cool with unleash usually prompts you to add a bonus when you get the +1/+1 counter. While this gets you to choose to unleash more often, it makes you actually 'use' the mechanic less. In the sense that the mechanic is about making a choice. Eventually it gets to the point where you just get a big creature that can't block with the option of having a chump blocker. Kinda like cycling.
I like Unleash the most of all the RTR mechanics because of this. Unleash actually forces you to think about what you want to do and make a decision, each with it's own pros and cons. This leads to a much more interesting mechanic IMO than say something like detain or scavenge, which are options (something you can choose to do) instead of a choice (a desicion between two things with pros and cons.) Even overload, which could have been a choice, was turned into an option by only ever affecting the permanents you want it to.
Yeah, unleash is pretty one-dimensional in a hyper aggro deck that wins on turn 5 with unleash creatures, but when you're deck's not full-tilt, unleash starts to get a lot more interesting. -

Everything points to it being better to start a new thread and archive this one. -

Summon_Legend: IMO, this turns the game into chaos that I wouldn't run. UR is all about casting more spells, and you want a chance for your opponent to have them? Also no IIW.
Cythare: This is just too swingy for a coin flip mechanic. Heads, you virtually win. Tails, you can lose quickly.
MDenham: "Double or nothing!"
Emocakes: This card is actually pretty cool after I think about it. This is a nice card for controllish RB decks. Yay.
AI: I just don't like this all that much. The wording seems clunky and it's a pain to do. I like the concept, but the design I'm iffy on.
Phyrexian Editor: Isn't that good, because you're paying 4 mana to turn your next spell to a cascade. That means that most of the time you're cascading a cheap spell, which probably isn't what you want.
Oculus: Simple, solid, printable.
Winterspring: How do you pick something with specific characteristics at random in a private zone?
MirrorEntity: Zone changing galore. This is quite interesting because it effectively can be a wrath for anything. I don't like how it makes you card advantage sometimes, though.
Prophylaxis: Mizzium Dragon just spews out the spells. Interesting.
xoqolatl: This suffers from the problem of "I NEED ONE SIDE NOW" to kill off the Serra Avenger.
Nick_Sharp: Nice find. This is really simple and printable. But..

Pancho: Seems like the decks that would benefit the most from this (White Weenie, Aggro) don't since you are focused on emptying your hand.
FoxxyEDarko: Discard at random kills this card. You can't really use it to set up a (limited!) tutor unless you have one card in hand.
Ninja Caterpie: Red polymorph? Hm.. I probably would not have it let you target your own stuff with this, but otherwise,
Rudyard: This seems like a good fit for Goblin decks. I would to hate this being cast in Pauper.
swishh: I actually love this card. It pulls off Divination + green with aplomb.

[07:34] <@CC> "Low hanging design fruit" one could say.
Stapler: This rewards you for not playing anything else in EDH..? I like the design of it, but it just doesn't fit the play style for red all that well.
avatarz: Yay, troll entries (?) Now I finally want to get tails. The problem with him is that he dies quickly. Also some people hate repeated flipping.

I've been altering some cards with my basic paint set (has all primaries, green, black, and white), but I can't really get the colors right. Is there an introductory acrylic set for alters?
First of all (I feel dumb saying this...) I know squat about paint vocabulary. Is there a web site that I can obtain this information?
Thanks for the critiques, guys. I'll try to alter another one hopefully in a few days.
