Quote from Rodemy »@dbs: i wish i had died early. It's not that i am not dependable, it's just i have a hard time actually focusing on what people say. I'm a little slow on the uptake, but i usually figurr out at least one scum. I just have trouble conveying why or convincing people why.
I was right about d_v for most od the game. Figured out vezok too late and had a hell of a tunnel on tom.
That being said, this game was stressful and confusing to me, but i tried. I really did.
I actually really appreciated all the effort you put into figuring this out. That was really evident, and in a group full of people who were ready to give up, you were right in there, fighting it out. That was awesome.
So don't pay any attention to DBS' bit about you needing to be lynched because people wouldn't listen to you. I violently disagree with that both in practice and in theory.
That said, DBS had some really good points about what happened to her, here. THere was a point in time for both Iso and I, a while ago, where we would put pressure on people for the sake of seeing how they'd respond to it, on an emotional level. And in the goodness of time, we each reached a point in our development as players where we agreed that trying to stress people out crossed a line, and shouldn't be done going forward.
I really want us to be welcoming community and a good place for people to come and make a mafia home. And if DBS is feeling that that's not what happened in this game, if we were actually making a big issue out of her being from somewhere else instead of welcoming, that's something we've really got to keep an eye on going forward. We've always been a community that welcomed people from all over the place to come here, and play, and make a home here. Being good to one another > being a good mafia player. Let's keep true to our roots on that.

as much as i dislike it

- I really like your point about splitting up a role into multiple parts - reminds me of the time in Hobbit Mafia where you wished that you changed one of Seppel's abilities to put on Caex or someone else.
- As a reviewer and moderator, I'm a fan of one/two shot abilities. Decreases swinginess while rewarding player skill. I feel that it really works best in the case of info roles - roles that hard-clear a player, like a cop, should almost always be limited in some fashion.
- I like to introduce "anchors" in a setup. This was something Megiddo said in the Deathspeaker Mafia Spectator Chat and I really like the idea of it:
- It's really important, IMO, for the scum to not immediately die to a D1 massclaim. "Do my scum die to a massclaim" is a question that should be on the list, and required answering for any game moderator.
- For complex games (Specialties, Minis with lots of roles) I find it extremely helpful to go through a IPOU analysis (Investigative, protective, offensive, utility). This is something I stole from Megiddo who stole it from Iso. The idea is to group up all of your roles into one of these four categories:
Investigative/Information roles - stuff like cops, trackers, watchers
Protective roles - doctor, bodyguard, bulletproof
Offensive - Vig, roleblocker
Utility - anything that interacts with the game mechanics, or doesn't fit cleanly into one slot
If you have a JoaT or something then you just list them in the category where they fit best, or in the utility slot. I feel like performing this type of analysis allows you to look at your game from a different point of view, and it lets you view deficiencies (are there too many investigative roles? Too many killing roles?)
- I also think it's important to determine what kind of game you want to run. For example, I value simplicity and elegance in my games, so in most every game I design I try to figure out a central design "hook" and revolve the game around it. Any game that is just a mishmash of roles without much to tie them together isn't really my forte. However, some other reviewers might delight in balancing role madness games. What I'm trying to say here is - figure out your specialties as a reviewer, and play to your strengths.

Objection!

Brrring... Brrrrring... *beep*
Wendy:
Who is this?
???:
Hey Wendy, it’s me.
Wendy:
…It’s been a while.
???:
I’m sorry, I’ve been rather busy lately.
Wendy:
Now now, that’s okay. What use would a big shot like yourself have with an old lady anyways?
???:
It’s not like that-
Wendy:
Hah! I’m just yanking yer chain. I’ve got to get my kicks while I’m still around, y’know.
???:
I’ve really missed talking to you.
Wendy:
...
Wendy:
Enough sentimental stuff. I’ve had quite enough of that in my life already.
???:
So tell me, how have you been?
Wendy:
Oh, you know me. I’ve had my hands full putting these whippersnappers in their places.
???:
You always did have a penchant for sticking your nose in other people’s business.
Wendy:
You’re one to talk! Is that all you called me for, to tell me that?
???:
Well no, actually. I called because... there’s one thing that I really need to say to you.
Wendy:
And that is...?
???:
…
“Goodbye.”
Welcome to Ace Attorney Mafia, a game for 19 players! This game is co-modded by Atogaholic and I, who designed the game with me.
This game is based on the popular video game series Ace Attorney. This game will span characters from all of the mainline series games and the two Investigations spinoffs. Knowledge of the source material is unlikely to provide an edge, but it will make you enjoy this game a whole lot more.
Ace Attorney Mafia was reviewed by ZeDorkSlipeur, who put a tremendous amount of time helping us with the setup. ZDS made this setup the best it could possibly be, and I would like to thank him for that.
The game features some changes to the normal rules. The game is split up into three phases: Investigation, Trial, and Night.
* During Night, each player may privately vote for players to become Jury Members in the next Investigation and Trial phases.
* During Investigation, instead of a lynch, the players nominate Defendants to be put on Trial. Jury members converse in a separate QuickTopic and may not participate in the thread.
* During Trial, only the Jury members may post. The phase ends when they agree on a defendant to declare guilty. That player will be lynched.
Before signing up, it's important to note that mafia games require an extended time commitment. Please only sign-up if you foresee yourself being able to participate for the next several months, and being able to post during that period, on average, at least once every 72 hours, without many absences of four or more days. Due to the way the game works, I will be very aggressive on deadlines, so keep this in mind.
To join, type /in
To replace, type /replace
To spectate, type /spectate
I recognize that we might not have the playerbase to sustain three large games going on at once, so if this doesn't garner interest in a reasonable amount of time (say, 1-2 weeks), I will bow out until a large game ends and we can run another Micro or something.
This game features:
- Aggressive deadlines.
- Flavorful roles and mechanics, true gameplay-to-story integration. If you love Ace Attorney, you'll love this game.
- A game that has been put through the paces. I feel confident saying that this game has been one of the most rigorously reviewed games in recent memory. We worked long and hard on this game; we certainly hope that you enjoy it.
- Two mods that will provide votecounts every day and will keep the thread updated.
- No nonsense like "flavor to be included later" and then never adding flavor.

It amuses me that the three people who won the PCQ are also people who are currently running games.
