I really like your list and congrats on the fnm. Crippling chill seems like a great card against temur since it taps down haste creatures and by the time it untaps I am sure you have cards that can answer it if need be plus you get to draw a card from it which is significant. So I am definitely not surprised to see you go 2-0 against temur and you also have devouring lights too. I mean it's a small sample size of games to be certain but the results certainly show promise and that's what you want to see as a uw control player.

I personally think your list seems like a pretty good direction to go from here for uw control. I also wouldn't be surprised to see you consistently defeat boss sligh opponents with your list as well, font of vigor does seems insane there.

I gotta admit I didn't really like font of vigor at first but with boss sligh running around everywhere at every major standard tournament, font of vigor is definitely a good card to have in the board.

I also don't see any problem with beating any of the abzan lists either with your deck. So great job on the list and keep it up.

Also, I agree with pimpdonny that with temur running around it seems necessary to replace divinations with font of fortunes. After seeing kibler a bit on camera wrecking people at GPLA with his temur deck round after round I am sure it's actually required to have a solid game against temur with uw control because others have been picking the deck up also.

I definitely believe uw control will be an contender in the future of standard because uw control seems to strive when the format is more developed. But this standard format so far has been a brewer's format that's for sure.

I really like the looks of your grixis control deck. I am still wondering why there aren't any dreadbores in the list though. Considering, the card can remove opposing planeswalkers or problematic creatures.

I also would like to see at least one staff of nin for extra draw power that can also ping but that's just my preference. Or consecrated sphinx since the sphinx has always been great in any control based deck. Although, I do see dracogenius and that does the same job as consecrated sphinx but also much better too. Pretty good deck list overall though.

I know it seems wrong not running brainstorms, but i'll still have cantrips with shuffle / fateseal abilities (not to mention jacestorming), and daze along with snapcaster is plain wrong sometimes, but here i have a hunch it might work well.

Any recommendations?

PS i had a thought of switching all dazes with diverts for better synergy with snapcaster mage (more removal/discard for me and less for you, repeat with snapcaster, impossible with daze)

I think the list looks fine. I like the cantrip setup of 4 preordain and 4 ponders. Even though I haven't really played this variant of mono blue control before I'd definitely would like to see like some submerges in the sideboard. Other then that though, I think it looks like it runs smoothly.

No, I was just giving a general example scenario on what could happen and how it could play out depending on what cards each player both have during that time which includes the goblin player having skirk prospector or not. This isn't really referencing to any player specifically hence why I stated "potential" inevitability via stoneforge mystic + equipment.

I would also cut the sphere of the suns for pristine talisman or just play more lands. While adding two more ponders could also be good since then you could run cards like terminus and maybe entreat the angels if you can get them. Seems like your list is good for starters though.

I think people just view the control build as inferior because they lack the skill necessary and prefer the crutch of a geist to carry them within the colors.
UWR flash and UWR control are similar and people I think don't take the time to really learn the in's and out's of the metagames they expect and experience poor results as such.

But honestly, people are sheep and once people see a list they jump on the bandwagon, and since a few people have had success with the midrangey builds with mroe creatures others have flocked to that style over the less creature, more control oriented builds.

I think with the changes to the metagame, a happy medium, similar to the list Kerrick found success with is what the deck needs to morph into to continue to see success, especially with an uptick in zoo but also the junk builds, a deck that can play long but also stabilize early.
