MTG Salvation

I decided not to play in the WMCQ. Standard is too expensive and stressful for what it is. Trying to playtest, the format wasn't fun, it was just disappointing. I decided I will play in the Modern event that weekend instead (1st is 2 Thoughtseize). This is what I'm going to play:

Dux, I'm talking about the WMCQ, which is competitive Magic. I think you're being pretty insulting, and I don't understand why. Are you saying I'm a bad player, or that I don't enjoy the game, because I don't (or admittedly, can't) brew my own decks?

I made the top 8 of a GPT in Sealed today, then got to the finals of the draft. I came second. I had never made top8 at a competitive event before, I was pretty stoked. Picked up 3 shocklands in my pool, as well as one in prizes and a foil Restoration Angel! I don't like foils, but it will get me two normal ones, so I'm happy.

I'm now looking at playing Prime Speaker Bant in standard, just borrowing the expensive stuff for the WMCQ and that's it. There is also a Legacy event at the WMCQ weekend that has a first prize of two Polluted Deltas! Pretty exciting.

I haven't been up to much, just working. It's my weekend off, but when I get to this point in my roster I'm so exhausted I never want to leave the house, just sit around doing nothing.

The GW Midrange lists that have been placing have not run Sublime Archangel, but I think it is ridiculously strong. In a fast, aggro dominated format it seems great. I think I will run 4 Cloudshift as evasion, running 4 Thalia maindeck is amazing against spot removal too as they wouldn't really have much mana open to blow it up in the first place. Selesnya Charm is great removal too, especially against Bloodrush. I run Wolfir Avenger, too, I think it is ridiculously strong. I like the idea of running Blind Obedience or even something like Heroes' Reunion in the board against the faster aggro decks.

I am qualified for the WMCQ this year, which means Standard... I hate the thought of playing that format but I have pretty decent Selesnya Midrange (Sublime Archangel etc) so I think it should be fun enough. Last time I played it (pre-Gatecrash, to be fair) I went 4-2 in a GP Trial and came 9th.

Aside from that I'm just saving saving saving. Really hope my extra week of holidays get approved this week so I can book my flights.

I'll try, but I like the cold! I'm on a pretty tight schedule for the trip but hopefully I'll have some extra time. I need your help picking a deck for the event, at the moment I'm thinking either Bant Stoneblade or UG Enchantress.

I went 1-2-1 in Legacy tonight with my Bant Stoneblade, it was pretty disappointing but I had some weird matchups and awkward games with too little/too much mana to get going.

My passport arrived today! Pretty exciting, I am booking my flights to Europe either this week or next depending on how long it takes for my leave application to process at work. I realized I am going to be able to attend the amazing Bazaar of Moxen event (hopefully) and that has made me SUPER excited. It looks like my trip will be:

3 Days in Stockholm
Travel to Geneva and get a Train to Annecy for Bazaar of Moxen
Back to Stockholm, then on to Gothenburg
A weekend in London
A week in Stockholm

I can't wait!

I have been pretty sick the past few days, have to miss three days of work. I decided to risk it and headed to play Legacy tonight, and did pretty well, 3 wins and a draw to come 3rd out of 30. Bant Stoneblade is my new favourite deck! I got $20 store credit for my trouble which was pretty great too.

Other than that, all I have been doing is coughing and sleeping. Hope y'all are well.

Daggs, that girl sounds like an absolute jerk. I wouldn't dwell on it.

Started picking up some stuff to make BUG delver in Modern. I guess I'll play it in Legacy this week and see how I find it.

I don't follow sports, but GOD DAMN Beyonce's half-time was incredible.

I went 2-2 in Legacy again with Bant. I think it definitely needs Geist of Saint Traft, Vendilion Clique, real dual lands and NO Progenitus to be really good. I guess that covers all my Magic spending for the next year or so:

I played Bant in a Modern GP Trial on Sunday and went 2-2 as well. It was a good deck but obviously not as consistent as the Legacy version. I want to build and test a good Bant or 4 Colour brew for the Modern GP in my city in October. I might even just say "**** it" and build BUG Delver because it'd probably be mind bogglingly good, even in Modern. Deathrite Shaman is NUTS!!!

I am thinking of buying a box of Gatecrash, Dux. How were your pulls?

We have been having crazy weather. Insane storms and now floods.

Prerelease was fun, went 3-1 with Boros. I think my next standard deck will be RDW with a white splash. I can't see selesnya being any good in the format now. Might trade or sell my Sublime Archangels.

Legacy tonight. Picking up a 3rd Force of Will. Next thing I need is Vendilion Cliques and Zendikar fetches.

Ran Modern and a Vanguard tournament tonight, I am so tired! Is anybody playing in prereleases this weekend? I'm playing one on Saturday and that's it.

@digi: I played against MUD (by far my worst matchup), BUG control (also bad), BUG again, Doomsday (I won that one) and RUG Delver/Stiflenaught (I can beat RUG Delver pretty easily but I was totally taken by surprise by the Stiflenaught). I didn't play modern, the GP was sealed - my pool was nuts, I went Bant with an Armada Wurm, Deathrite, Precinct Captain and some good beaters, but sadly no removal. I could have had a decent Grixis control but I don't have the skill to build something like that well in sealed. In Vintage I played unpowered Dark Times.

The important part of a GP is really to have fun. Enjoy the experience. If you get a good result, fantastic, but even if you don't, not all is lost

I don't really understand you saying "appropriate card pool", since the deck I was running wasn't a budget deck - Dark Confidants, Lilianas, Wastelands, etc. You can be pretty condescending sometimes about Legacy... I know just as much as you do. I do play tournaments with 20+ people literally every week. I have played against every tiered deck in the format, and my mono-black deck has gone 4-0 in tournaments with 35 players.

GP weekend was a lot of fun, went 1-4 in Legacy, 3-3 in the GP, and 2-3 in Vintage. Such an amazing atmosphere. I picked up 4 Noble Hierarch and 2 Sylvan Library, and then a Force of Will today. I played Bant in Legacy tonight and went 2-2. It's been a good couple of days!

Off to Sydney tomorrow for the GP, wish me luck! Playing Legacy tomorrow afternoon, then Day 1 on Saturday. If I don't make Day 2, I'm playing in the Vintage event. It's going to be an awesome weekend!
