I would highly recommend dumping your cache. I use YouTube fairly regularly and I haven't had any slowdown unless the site was experiencing rather heavy traffic.

Have you ran a speed test to make sure you're getting the speeds you should from your isp?

More than holiday appearances, I assure you. I'm back.

Glad to hear you're getting on well with Hannes. The site's already seen several upgrades in the time I was gone and I'm sure your new partnership had a lot to do with that.

Aramil took a deep breath and exhaled, happy to be breathing a familiar air again.

He rested for a moment before working his way through the sewer network, trying to find his way back "home." He moved cautiously in case his nightmares became reality, and his mission to defend the guild was unsuccessful.

Hey Belgareth. I haven't talked to you in ages, I believe the last time was around the Hyrule clan still being a thing.

Hello all. I've been enjoying my summer holiday mostly by staying home, drinking some great beer, and getting through a few years' worth of my video game backlog before school starts up again in the fall.

Brian, your new red text is both awesome and a bit intimidating. Good on you for getting Hannes to move off of his no tech stance.

Aramil dreamed of the cold, damp aqueducts and sewers that housed the hidden hall, the one place of refuge he knew midst the uncertain cosmos he traveled in.

Aramil dreamed of his home in the forgotten Tenth Guild, of Jeremy, of Circu, and even of the terrible Golgari recyke that he could barely choke down.

Y'know, my old math teacher's band back in the day was going to be famous, but their agent wanted to replace the singer with a young upstart nobody called "Bryan Adams." But they were all friends, so they declined, and just played for fun. True story Grin

To disuade being thought as a gutter sheep, I guess I should explain why I left. The Called just doesn't feel like the same place anymore, more than anything. I don't really feel as comfortable posting. That's in addition to friends leaving thus making me want to post less, and honestly the reaction of people like CharD and votan that just left a real bad taste in my mouth. I don't have ill will towards y'all, I just feel like it is time for me to find a new home.

I may still follow the thread an post from time to time, but it'll be as an alumni. Peace green mana

Congratulations on the staff thing; I hope we happen to be postin at roughly the same increments in the future.

Take it easy, T-lo & CK?

Teefo, I have 0 beef with you, & if you want to be active in here, that's your call. I dunno if we can get the two other players, but it would be cool to see that contest happen.

In other news: Lucknorris wants /in. I'm all for it, are we ready to vote that guy in?

Props to you, Teefo, for sticking around. Talore, CK, and kpaca, I'm sorry to see you all go but I'm sure I'll talk to you on occasion via AIM and whatnot.

Nick, I'll be praying that you find the strength to right that wrong. Your self-removal was admirable but entirely warranted.

I know very little about LN outside of our former staff relationship. I'd like to get to know him better before a yay vote.

I'm good with LuckNorris on two conditions.

No influx of Chuck Norris jokes. That **** was never funny.
He has to have the title "Shortest Member of the Called" in his sig for a predetermined amount of time. Hooray!

This would help facilitate my yay vote.

Anywho, I am thoroughly surprised to come in here and discover that despite all of the hubbub and drama over the past several days, I have remained with a spot on the roster. I am about as guilty as anyone of the "inactive" title. I'll admit, I'm going to have to get used to logging in again and hanging out with you lot. It's been a minute since I was able to do that without other assorted MTGS happenings.

The semester is quickly winding down for me and I have spent the majority of my free time celebrating appropriately with my friends. My nephew also reached his first birthday milestone last weekend, and he adorably devoured his first mini-cake. It's a simple thing, but it was all kinds of awesome.

Past that I have simply been hanging out at the house while slowly working through a backlog of games. No complaints.

So looking around and following that ridiculous thread I've seen that Yuks has resigned his post as an admin. I can understand that. He's pretty much been MIA for a long time now, only popping in when his services are greatly needed. I can understand that because of the personal issues he's dealt with over the past couple of years.

Sad to see him go, but I'm sure he'll be happier just posting random crap again and enjoying his freedoms.

I spent way too many late nights trying to read up on everything that was going on and by the time I'd finished, I was too tired to be of much use in policy discussions and whatnot.

To be honest, I am in one of the better spots in my life at the moment and I have a lot of things around me that I love devoting my time to. MTGS simply fell far down the priority list at some point and it isn't fair to the users or the staff to have an admin that isn't fully committed.

I do like the idea of being able to take five minutes from all of that, pop in and say hey, and perhaps share some pictures if anything interesting enough happens.

For what it's worth, I want to personally apologize for my lack of a role in all of this. For a multitude of reasons, I have dropped the ball in many aspects of my moderating duties for months now and when I should have been around for an event like this, and event that has real-life ramifications that are unimaginable, I simply wasn't.

I'm not going to lie and say that this was the sole reason why I have decided to retire, but my incompetency in this event is something that should not be tolerated and if all the other reasons were not there, I would still be making this post.

Go easy on the guys that are left. They're doing their best with the resources they have available to them to make decisions to improve this site. We're human and we screw up, but from having worked with guys like Sene, rianalnn, Galspanic, and viperesque, I know they are good people with a lot to give you folks.

This has been a long time coming, guys, but it's time for me to step down from my position on the staff. Truthfully, I posted a thread in the admin lounge in December about how my time and energy were finding refuge in many other places besides this site and I questioned how much longer I would be able to devote my time to the site's necessary endeavors.

That was before Extremeicon retired, Azrael came and went, and Annorax had to step down from his position. I still believe in what we started and feel that we're on the right track for getting things lively here again, I just no longer feel like the right man to spearhead those endeavors and truthfully, I haven't been that as of late. Some of that has to do with the good old PC dying a tragically sad death, but that time away from here just reminded me how much I enjoy the other aspects of my life. The passion and energy I once used for this site has been redirected to my career, my schoolwork, my two adorable nephews, and my personal life. I think it's simply time and I hope my replacement will be able to provide you all with the time and energy you all deserve. Go easy on whoever it is, this gig can be rough.

So, yeah. I tend to suck at closing things so I will just leave it at that. Take care everyone.

    Administration

Annorax has stepped down from his post of Administrator. On behalf of the entire staff, I would like to thank Annorax for his contributions to these forums and for all the long hour and hard work he has given over the years.

There is no planned replacement for Annorax at this time.

We are pleased to announce one of the most substantial changes to MtG Salvation policy in the site's history; the change to the banned member policy.

Until today, it used to be that if you get banned, you get banned permanently, with no possibility of a return. Not too long ago, we didn't even have an appeal process for banned or suspended members, and members who got banned, deservedly so or not, had two choices: either stay away from MtG Salvation forever, or make gimmick accounts to evade their bans.

However, this site is now quite old, and members who were banned as irresponsible teenagers might now be adults. People mature, people change. In quite a few cases, keeping these members away from the site is doing a disservice to the site and the community. This is something the MtG Salvation staff recognizes, and as such, we are changing our policy regarding banned members. The new policy is as follows:
    • If a member is banned, that member may appeal his or her ban in the Ban/Suspension Appeal Forum.
    • If the appeal is denied, it's a default one year off, with circumstances considered.
    • After that period, another appeal can be lodged. If this appeal is denied, another year must pass before another appeal is reviewed, ad nauseam.
    • At the point that a user can be determined to show an understanding of their reason for being banned & displays a genuine interest in reforming their character, they will be unbanned under a condition of a 1-year probation.
    • During this 1-year period, infractions are lengthened to approximately the remaining term of the probation (with the 40-day norm still a minimum; infractions will be set to a length equal to the number of weeks remaining to the probation, rounded up). Any suspension resulting in this time period will result in a return to banned member status.
    • Gimmick evasion of these conditions at any time means that the time until another appeal is reconsidered increases by one year.
    • Members who have been guilty of ripping, posting malicious links or other very severe offenses, will under no circumstance be allowed back on MtG Salvation.
    New Banned Member Policy FAQ:

Q: How does this policy affect previously banned members?

A: The new policy applies to previously banned members as well. Meaning, if they have been banned for a minimum of one year, they may post an appeal for the staff to review.

Q: What about members who evaded their ban/suspension in the past?

A: These members will have the same rights as other banned members in regards to a ban appeal. Since it historically has been so that the only way for a member to resume activity on MtG Salvation after being banned, is to make a gimmick, and that an appeal process has been practically non-existent, these members will also get a shot at an appeal.

Q: Does this mean we will be overrun with previously banned members?

A: Unlikely. These appeals will be considered carefully, and only those who show signs of reformation and a clear intention and will to come back and be a productive member of the community, are allowed to return.

Q: Will the community know when a previously banned member has been unbanned?

A: Whenever a previously banned user gets unbanned and is put on probation, a post in the "Currently Suspended/Banned Users" thread will explain it.

Q: Can we request members to be unbanned?

A: We will only consider appeals submitted by the banned member in question. You can certainly encourage this member to appeal, but we will not review appeals on behalf of other members.

Additionally, if a member has been banned from MtG Salvation in the past and is currently using a gimmick account, we ask that that member step forward and tell us in the Staff Inbox. If that member does this, he or she will be immediately allowed to appeal, and may, if circumstances dictate it, stay unbanned on the terms of a 1-year probation. However, starting June 1st, 2012, ban evading members will, once again, be banned once uncovered.

    Thanks,
    The MtG Salvation Staff

So when three administrators post in a smiley thread, do their powers combine and get a Captain Planet smiley?

This needs to be a thing.
