Can Skysovereign, Consul Flagship (or any upcoming legendary vehicle) be used as a Commander despite technically not being a creature card naturally since it's printed with creature characteristics (power, toughness, and subtype)? Now That some Planeswalkers can be used as commanders, I couldn't help but wonder if this card's unique design and template allow it to circumvent traditional restrictions based on its inherent ability to become a creature. Lest we forget gods are only creatures with devotion met. Thanks!

What are the odds we see the Diamond and/or Medallion cycles reprinted? Between the two, I'd think Medallion, but I could be wrong.

Medallions would be nice, but diamonds are obsolete in the new order so most players would prefer a coldsteel heart reprint instead.

JTMS likely wouldn't be included since it was already in FTV:20 as previously mentioned.

That being assumed, I would hope for something along the lines of...

Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury (awesome in Commander, not yet foiled, and I really want a foil copy)
Nahiri, the lithomancer (equipment are popular in commander and I want a foil copy)
Liliana of the Veil (I may have 8 copies including a foil, but she's playable in virtually any format but pauper, and honestly, who doesn't want more shiny copies of her?!)
Chandra, Torch of Defiance (Because this iteration of Chandra surpassed my expectations and needs to remain in the spotlight)
Tamiyo, The Moon Sage (Underrated by many, but my favorite mono-blue walker after JTMS)

Ajani, Mentor of Heroes (because the other walkers in the box need a mentor)
Venser, The Sojourner (He may already have an alternate art foil printing in his Duel deck, but flickering is fun and this set should pay homage to such noble deceased hero)
Garruk, Apex Predator (Because no other iteration of Garruk looks nearly as intimidating and he can directly kill other planeswalkers)
Xenagos, the Reveler (It only seems appropriate to include the only Planeswalker who ascended to Godhood)
Sarkhan the Mad (Because he's the only planeswalker without a + ability)
Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas (Because he's awesome, the set needs an "artifacts matter" walker, and he also represents the disabled demographic since he's the only walker with a prosthetic arm)

Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker (or the likely upcoming iteration yet to be spoiled) (Honestly, what would the this FTV set be without the original surviving elder dragon, and the most evil and powerful planeswalker of them all?
Ugin, The Spirit Dragon (the only walker to be brought back from the dead in card form through time travel
Karn Liberated (the only card in Magic which can restart a game and eliminate the emblems of other walkers deserves to be included)
Jace Beleren (book/promo media insert art) (because Jace has long been the most popular and recognizable walker in Magic, this original iteration was the test and foundation for upcoming planeswalker design, and because we'd all love to have this foiled alternate art without having to pay a fortune)

What would the MSRP be? hopefully not more than $180 USD

Can we finally get a foil didgeridoo?

    *gasps*

    Two words: Reserved List

(...and I sincerely hope this "Masterpiece series" doesn't have a hidden agenda, and isn't some clever attempt or ploy to circumvent the policy)

    Yes!!! Finally Smile
I've been patiently waiting for this and am very happy to see the recent update.

Now if only the advanced search had 'omit' fields where you could omit certain words or other variables from search query results.

For example, it would be nice and more efficient if one wanted to pull up all 'non-human soldiers' (perhaps a 'match only' checkbox for the 'type' field), or say any card with the word 'planeswalker' in its rules text while being able to omit any cards with 'trample' and/or 'myriad', as the word 'planeswalker' is in the reminder texts for said abilities, inadvertently causing such cards to also be included in the search results when they're not particularly applicable to the search parameters. Similarly, it would be great if there was an 'exclude' checkbox option which omitted reminder text from searches entirely. Then the site would be absolutely perfect.

well they went and made two more, garruk apex predator, and this. I think what they mean is, they will never print a 4 ability walker, unless we really want to push it

Lest we so easily forget Liliana of the dark realms which has a modal -3 that can either pump or reduce p/t.

Either way, I'm very pleased with this new Chandra.

Buy every card that has multiplied in value many times over when they were cheap, then profit in the future.

    Wouldn't we all!

In all seriousness though, I would unmake JTMS.

In all not-so-seriousness though, unmake can't target Jace, the Mind Sculptor Wahoo!!

A time machine would be good for getting rid of the ante cards which probably never should have been printed.
Seriously, just imagine the other bulk rares we could've had in their stead!

Haunted crossroads does this in black for creature cards.

    As does...
    bone harvest
    footbottom feast
    gravepurge

(note the second and third are functionally the exact same card with different names, but functional reprints like that are occasionally good for edh/commander and other singleton formats if you want duplicates of a card)

Just thought of a few more...check these out:
    reinforcements
golgari thug puts another creature from the grave to the top when it dies
Arashin Sovereign can put itself on the top of the library when it dies
enigma sphinx puts itself third from the top of the library

    Just thought of one more!
Albeit zombie-specific, lest we forget unholy grotto!

  • posted a message on Twinflame + Precursor Golem(s)
Before I accidentally miscalculate and come up with the wrong numbers, I wanted to ask here to be certain...

    1. If a player controls a precursor golem and the two other golem tokens it originally created, how many golems will he or she end up with if...
    a) twinflame is strived/kicked once targeting the precursor golem and one of the other golem tokens?
    b) twinflame is strived/kicked twice targeting the precursor golem and both golem tokens?

    2. If a player controls two precursor golems and the four other golem tokens they originally created, how many golems will he or she end up with if...
    a) only one precursor golem is targeted by twinflame?
    b) twinflame is strived/kicked once targeting both precursor golems?
    c) twinflame is strived/kicked twice targeting the two precursor golem and one additional non-precursor golem token?

If context is important, the reason why I need to know these numbers is because I recently modified (hopefully augmented) my purphoros, god of the forge commander deck which also runs cards like kiki-jiki, mirror breaker and splinter twin so I want to make sure I know the accurate values for creatures entering which is relative to subsequent etb damage to players.

    Thank you!

I'd also like to see an Explosive Vegetation effect that grabs any land and puts it into play untapped, perhaps it could be limited to two lands with the same name (to prevent modern Urzatron decks from getting too much of a benefit) or it could also be like a double Crop Rotation except maybe cost it at 2G and make it a spell that sacrifices two lands to search for two lands and puts one onto the battlefield untapped and one into your hand.

The reason why I'd like to see this is that I'd like a card that could fetch 2 fetchlands and basically have the potential give the player 4 landfall triggers in a turn for 4 mana or less.

Maybe it's just a pipe dream, but wouldn't it be nice if we got a Skyshroud Claim reprint?
Alas, we'll probably just end up getting a reprint of Walking Atlas.

Cool. I appreciate the prompt reply. That seems...a bit unusual, but that's what I suspected and it's interesting to know that a player who (in the unlikely event) controls both token copies of such creature cards as well as identically named creature tokens created by the spellshapers would still need to make a distinction between the two seemingly identical token types since that subtle difference could potentially affect other variables.

Do the llanowar elves tokens created by llanowar mentor and the festering goblin tokens created by skirk ridge exhumer inherently have converted mana costs of G and B the same way token copies of the actual cards created by rite of replication, cackling counterpart etc would? In other words, would such tokens named after specific preexisting cards count towards devotion/chroma?

I'm just wondering if all game objects named "llanowar elves" represent the same game piece and by extension have the same characteristics (with the exception of being a card vs a token), or if a player could theoretically have multiple llanowar elves tokens (or cards and tokens) in play, some of which have a converted mana cost and others which don't. Thanks in advance!

  • posted a message on Jace's Sanctum + Spatial Contortion
Thank you all again for your thorough replies, insights, explanations, and examples.
I can assure you that I wasn't trying to be difficult or create unnecessary confusion.
I also understand that when it comes to cost reducers, cost increasers (or "taxes") are applied beforehand, and if applicable trinisphere applies last. I actually have a Grand Arbiter Augustin IV edh deck which runs pearl medallion, sapphire medallion, and sphere of resistance, so I get that part.

What confused or rather still confuses me slightly is that in the absence of any colored mana symbols in its cost, a colorless instant (or sorcery) spell which may indeed require colorless mana as part of it's printed converted mana cost could still have that portion of its casting cost reduced by an effect created by an ability on a permanent which reduces one colorless mana from the total casting cost of that spell (type) once it's been announced, and that the reduction itself doesn't necessarily need to be taken from the generic mana portion of that instant (or sorcery) card's converted mana cost, but from either part of it's total casting cost which is "one colorless and one of any type". Perhaps I didn't use my words precisely enough initially, but does that help make more sense? (I'm basically asserting that since the <> is not technically a colored mana symbol but a colorless one, this makes it exempt from cards which can't reduce the colored (not mana-symboled) portions of spells. As such, I was speculating that perhaps such cards allow for a cost reduction loophole to the current templating where 1s on any card which aren't part of the card's converted mana cost, or part of the cost of an activated or triggered ability on that card always mean "one colorless mana" and not "one mana of a generic nature" or "one mana from among the generic mana portion of a card's casting or ability cost"). In any event, I don't want to flog a dead horse and create a longer cyclical debate, so I'm just going to admit defeat for now and accept what I can't seem to fully understand until the new rulings on the mana symbol come out and there's hopefully something official which can give me confidence and put my lingering doubts to rest. Perhaps I was just overthinking it from the start. Perhaps it was just pie in the sky and I wanted spatial contortion to be the new dismember.

In any case, this is getting really off topic, so hopefully the OP understands better about the interaction of the cards he/she originally asked about.
I may be something of a gender non-conformist since I have hair longer than most women, but I'm still very much a "he" Smile
