I was hoping for feedback on my most recent sealed pool, played at a PTQ a couple of weeks ago. I thought I had misbuilt it, but the results were better than expected, but I'm not sure if I did things right or not, and what I could have done better
When I laid it out I felt white was fairly weak outside of the Hundred-Handed One but the other four seemed around even. The green had some powerful cards, but nothing at 3 and 4 mana, and a GG 2 drop. The Shipwreck Singer pulled me toward UB but I ultimately went BR because of the removal and strength of the Conscriptor and the Herald. I wasn't very confident in the build, but it outperformed my expectations, but I was left wondering if I left something better on the table. My final build is below, if I could go back I would definitely bring in the Drown in Sorrow, which I sided in every match, probably for the Akroan Crusader, which did nothing all day. I also brought the Eye Gouges in often, where I saw lots of one toughness creatures.
I plan at some point to have a hybrid draft/poker tournament. $30, 10 for packs and 20 for Poker buy-in. Draft first, each win in the three rounds of draft gives you some extra starting chips for the poker tournament. I think would be fun, if you could pull together 7 other people who like both magic and poker
Who here seriously thought they would ever reprint JTMS in any form?
And now that they are, I can't believe there are actually people upset about it.
I would have been shocked if be wasn't included in FTV:20. It's the cleanest way to print him, and he is absolutely iconic and defined standard the years he was available
For prerelease, call the store ahead and see if they are doing preregistration, as the last thing you want is to turn up bright and early and find that you can't play. I play at 401 Games in Toronto (you're in Toronto right?) and they used to get too many people so had to turn people away/cram people in so now they have become quite strict on numbers for prereleases, and you really need to be preregistered.
I've also done midnight prereleases at Untouchables in Mississauga and they have never been too full (while still having good numbers), so I think it really depends where you go, but I would definitely preregister if you can. That also means you can possibly get your DCI card when you preregister which saves a little time on the day itself
Actually, they said that no card on the current ban list or on their internal list of problem cards that might be banned in the near future would be printed in MM.
Given the set was announced the same time that Eggs really broke out as a top tier deck, and was already designed at that point, they may not have had it pegged as a problem yet
This also makes me think it is not a given second sunrise would be included. It barely helps make the product draft able I imagine, and probably wasn't a card modern players were clamouring for at the time
There's a good idea of just reprinting en mass of staples for modern in a new art/design, thus the old ones will keep its value since the older design is much sought after by collectors?
No because the underlying value is driven by the card's usability. Rarity etc contributes to price, but the only reason cards such as goyf are so high is because they are demanded by players. There would be a premium on the rarer one but anyone like me who just wants to play the card will chase the cheaper one, which will mean the value of the more expensive one drops. For me and I imagine a lot of others, the two versions are perfect substitutes
Yes, you it has already been cast, Aurelia's Fury would only stop you from casting another. It doesn't say anything about stopping a spell from resolving, just from being cast
Also, you could cast an instant while Aurelia's fury is on the stack, unresolved
I would suggest mtgo just to get a real appreciation for timing of various actions. Try playing around with the various stops you can set an figure out when each is relevant. One of the most difficult things I'm learning is exactly when I get priority and when the ideal time to use that priority is
I think GP Vegas will be even bigger. It's easy to get there, cheap flights, and the only GP to be able to play MM format... could be MASSIVE.
Totally agree with this, I'm in Toronto and know many people are talking about Vegas.
With regards to Charlotte, I'm hoping it's huge as I am going to Quebec that weekend, the smaller it is, the better my chances
Yes you would gain two sets of life. Once for lifelink, and once for the triggered ability armadillo cloak gives. It doesn't give lifelink itself, if you did you would only gain life once, as multiple instances of lifelink are redundant
I have never paid tax in the mtgo store. You may technically be meant to declare it yourself but I am not sure on this
For redemption, we have to pay international shopping of $25 (from memory). I redeemed a single set and did not pay customs duty, however more than 1 set may cause this to kick in.
The problem is that you can only play paper a few times a week, but you can draft constantly.
If they did it they would likely have to exclude 8 mans.
I think an easier answer would be to cap online pwp at your paper points level. So if I've earned 500 online and only 200 in paper this season, only 200 of my online points count. I can then earn more paper points to unlock the 300 online points
It might even be better to set it up as 2 paper points allow 1 online point, or whatever ratio works best wotc
Sure I would, but would a bowling alley (or anywhere that's not a game store) be an ideal place to put a magic card vending machine? I imagine a drink machine or sports car machine would get more turnover in a bowling alley, so the owners of those machines would pay more rent to the bowling alley owner. Maybe if the bowling alley was next to a game store and you offered better prices than the game store, then you may get enough volume to make it worthwhile

Nothing to do with wizards, and never is. My store always does store credit prizes, never boosters
