That card actually seems kinda cool. Flying and Haste on him really helps.

Based on this which was posted in the Event Decks thread, it looks like the foil rare for the blue/red deck costs UU3. To me at least, someone else might have a better idea.

He can target another Phantasmal Image. However, what I assumed he tried to do is have a Grave Titan enter the battlefield. With it he wants to regrow a Phantasmal Image, have the Image copy the Titan, putting the ability of the copied titan on the stack, sacrifice the Image, and regrow the image again.

With this, he would endlessly recurr the Image and grow Grimgrin infinitely. However, this does not work because you have to choose the target for the ability when the ability enters the stack and you can't sacrifice the Image before choosing a target.

Thankfully, assuming it works with two Phantasmal Images + Sun Titan, you can get the two Phantasmal Images by playing a Sun Titan the turn after you play Grimgrin. We just got some new W/B dual lands too, so this could work well in a casual deck.

I think his main argument for it being bad was the OPPOSITE situation, where in you go to sacrifice a creature to untap grimgrin, and they dismember it in response to that. Honestly, this situation is going to be the more common one, as it is the better play; no reasonably good player is going to just randomly dismember your 5/5 that is tapped and can't untap, they are going to wait for you to try to untap it so that they can 2 for 1 you, which means that you need to have at least 2 other creatures besides Grimgrin to not get blown out by dismember. Granted, you then have a beater that is quite a force to be reckoned with, but it is still a lot of work.

If you sac two creatures in response to the dismember, you'd get a 7/7 that destroys creatures when it attacks. You could also just counter it. If they would really waste 2 dismembers on your creature, the 8 life might be worth losing the 3 creatures, especially since they just used 2 removal spells.

Granted he will be rather cute with some Reassembling Skellies and Endless Ranks of the Undead but to focus your strategy on just one creature for your entire deck isn't that great. But as is right now for what is being spoiled I don't see that much potential.

Using him, Reassembling Skeletons, Mortar Pods, Diregraf Ghouls, Grave Titans, and blue control and black removal might work.

Unplayable in standard unless they ban Dismember. This isn't a "creature dies to removal" argument. This is, 5 drop that gives no value until next turn gets wrecked by the most played card in the format argument. Dismember is in every deck. expensive 5/5's that dont do anything when they come into play or before your opponent untaps aren't getting you anywhere. Ever wonder why Obliterator isn't played at all? same excat reason, and the fact that BBBB means your deck is full of other bad cards.

Sure you can sac a creature, but thats still a minus overall since u have to do it every turn u want to attack, and unless you have a way to generate value from it (tokens, oculus/solemn) type effects it's not worth it.

Like others have said, you can sac a more useless creature in response to Dismember. The fact that you can follow up the next turn with a Grave Titan (a nice token producer for your Grimgrin) or other 6 drop doesn't hurt him either. He's also got a few other good token producers in Moan of the Unhallowed and Endless Ranks of the Dead, as well as good fodder cards like Reassembling Skeletons gives you a lot of potential fuel for your killing machine.

Don't you lose a creature if you redirect a kill spell using Spellskite (kite?)? But even that's not considered bad, considering if you protected something more important. If they waste 4 life (which is almost as powerful as him swinging at them anyways) to get rid of a creature that's irrelevant enough to sacrifice, I think that's a fair exchange. He also doesn't compete for the same slot as a Titan; you can easily drop him, and then drop a Frost or Grave Titan next turn. He can also buff himself quickly (I'm not sure, but I have a feeling you can use his first ability multiple times even if he's untapped), and he kills an opponent's creature every time he attacks, so he's definitely not a bad card.

Dismember says no to the zombie legend or any other mythic without Hexproof and x/6 at least, and Temepered steel says no to anything to slow.

Dismember says no to just about every card in standard. And so long as you have another creature out, he won't die to dismember, since you can sacrifice in response and make him a 6/6.

Yes, he lands as a 5/5. On the first turn he isn't summoning sick you declare your going to combat. Sac to untap him, tap him to attack, they sac a creature and his first swing will be as a 7/7.

This might seem nit picky, but you would untap him right before the Declare Attackers step right? I don't think you have any time during the step itself to untap him before you've missed your chance to attack with him.

I can't wait to watch someone play Essence of the Wild and then follow up with an Army of the Dead/Damned (whichever the zombie token one was). That 6 damage kill a land and creature card seems really good as well.

Well, why? You should almost never (meaning: never ever!) be the defending player when you attack with Grimgrin.

He gets one +1/+1 counter when he untaps, and he gets another one when he destroys an opponent's creature when he attacks, right? So before you even go to the blockers step, he'll have two +1/+1 counters.

Arcaia If he was your general and you had Rooftop Storm online (set: Innistrad), would that mean he would cost 0 for every time you bring him back?

No. I am not sure on whether or not the 0 would apply, but either way you'd have to pay the 2 colorless mana you're required to pay when your general dies.

EDIT: Looks like I just got Nath'd?

He's essentially a 7/7 for 5 mana if you can untap and swing with him, which isn't that bad. This guy has potential, that's for sure. Especially in EDH, I bet he'd make an awesome commander. The one thing that COULD go wrong is that you might not be able to attack with him if you don't have a creature to destroy, meaning if he's the only thing on the field...well, yeah. Anyways, he seems good, that's for sure. And like someone on the first page said: Reassembling Skeletons, HOOOOO!!

If the game has a measly 100,000 players, and it's evenly split as the community here (our only frame of reference) is, then that's still 50,000 people who recognize it as a screw up. Hence, 'fan base of thousands'.

Aw, come on, now that's just uncalled for.

It's one thing to think it's a bad idea, but before you totally dismiss the idea and say it's failed, maybe we should give it a chance? I think it might be cool. I was iffy at first but I've slowly come to recognize why they had to do it.

It's a little disappointing that it's not G/R werewolves, but I guess white did need another deck though. I would have to throw my dice in with LuminumCan here, G/B Morbrid, G/W Humans, R/U Flashback (maybe minor ghost subtheme?), W/U Spirits, and R/B Vampires.

If R/B really is Flash back, I could see it having Devil's Play, Silent Departure, and Grasp of Phantoms. I could also see Dearly Departed in the Green/White humans deck.

I would not be surprised if that Red deck turned out to be R/B Vampires.

I think this guy and Call To Mind are very different, considering Call To Mind doesn't "increase" the cost of the spell, but you can use it at any time. This guy requires that you use it in the same turn (making it "more expensive", I suppose). Either way, aside from Consecrated Sphinx (and maybe the swords), what did Blue get in the Scars block? At the very least, red got Hero of Oxid Ridge, and Koth of the Hammer.
