@Lord of Doom: If you're looking to move the last of your collection, can I have a look before you post it to Trading Post/Market Street?

@Prerelease: Went 3-0-1 today. Drew in the last round to give me and my opponent 12 packs each since I was tired and just wanted to get home and relax. My deck was stupid. x2 Scourge of Fleets (one being the promo), Tromokratis, Hypnotic Siren, King Macar, the Gold-Cursed, Temple of Mystery and Chained to the Rocks. So basically, only 1 unplayable rare since I went U/B. I had a ridiculous amount of removal and 2 of those Starfish to scry for days. I don't think I loss a single game.

    Nice job at the prerelease.

Sure, I can give you a look (unless the local card shop guy gets back to me, although he seems to have fallen out of contact recently). I'm going to try to get a list of what I've got up shortly, as well as scans (or at least pictures). I stupidly sent my scanner home since I'm moving back home the 13th and thought I'd send as much as I could out.

So what's the record length of time that someone's been gone and then posts?

In retrospect, this account is obviously super juvenile, but I thought it appropriate to keep it the way it was since it's a really good part of my history.

I last dropped in in my first year of college in 2011, but even before that it had been ages. I apparently joined in '05! I actually remember some of you and hope you have all been well. I'm finishing up my college education and will be headed off to Johns Hopkins for a masters in epidemiology starting next year. Unfortunately, I'm mostly here to potentially try to sell off what's left of my MTG collection from years ago. It's a good thing I remembered that the clans still exist. Is there an inactivity expiration time on membership?

I am getting ready to go to vintage world champs at gencon. I have been looking all over the net for decks that are doing good in vintage, and it seams like the 4 best decks out right now are MUD, Oath, Storm, Dredge.

Mud you have to have workshops... i don't.
Oath you pretty much need full power.
    Storm same as oath.
Dredge - dont have the bazaars.

I have 1 black lotus, and 1 mox jet. Can I play oath, or maybe fish competivly with only those 2 power 9 cards?

I'm sure you could at least formulate some sort of fish list.

    Here's a short bio:

I'm a bit offbeat, but I've made my rounds in various interests for many years now. Although I quit MTG a long time ago, I could never really separate myself from the entirety of my collection or the community that kept me so deep into the game. I've dabbled in building computers, competitive Counter-Strike, being an audiophile, and collecting watches and fountain pens. I'm a student at Franklin & Marshall with an intended major in Public Health and minor in Applied Mathematics. Nothing's off the table for discussion and I love talking to people.

There are 78188 members on this site at the moment. For any one person, the probability that person is born on your birthday is about 1/365.25, if we take leap years into account. That means the probability that someone isn't born that day is 364.25/365.25.

So, the probability that no one else on MTGS shares a birthday with you is
    (364.25 / 365.25)78188
    =8.0232499336059644709737305015124*10-94

Either something is really really coincidental here, or a lot of people haven't revealed their birthday...

In other news, I've been busy lately... I will make more sketches sometime soon. Music composition has been a bit slow... the only things I got done recently are some more 60-Second Etudes, which I should get to uploading sometime.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birthday_problem

You're right, I shouldn't have been talking about MTGS specifically, we have to consider that it was bound to happen on some forum.

EDIT: I'll get to the Bio. CRAP CRAP CRAP rush ahhh

    Happy birthday, LordofDoom! Smile

EDIT: I just noticed you're the only person with a name on the Today's Birthdays list... statistically, that should be really unlikely, should it? Or have very few people actually set their own birthday here?

Just noticed the banner... any plans to update that (since the clan name is simply [The Crafters] now)?

Nah, it's my token of the past. As for statistical likelihood of my birthday, it's more likely than you think. Although it's unlikely in general to have a specific birthday have only one person (especially in the late spring/summer where birthdays are more concentrated), it's in line with likely probabilities that at least one person on this site will have a birthday solo. (I'm minoring in Applied Mathematics/Statistics)

    Nice bed.

@Kank: It looks like Lord of Doom (Also known as Zach, IIRC) and Elemental (Eli) are back and functioning. If they get a bio written up, we may want to add them to our list of members.

I'll get/write a bio when I get back. I keep forgetting today is my birthday and I have a dinner in ~3 hours @_@

I should post to show I'm still alive... been busy, and will be busy this summer. I plan to make more character sketches (I need to get to front-view sketches soon), and I also have a music audio quiz planned that I'll put on Sporcle. <- Warning: This site is addictive!

I do have crossword ideas planned, but they're hard to fill in (my most recent one somehow fell into place quickly).

@Elemental, LordofDoom: Glad to see some returning people. I'm a rather recent addition to the clan, so I'm not sure we've met yet...

@inPhase: Are you joining this clan too? Welcome aboard!

Probably not, it's been ages since I've been here. I'm pretty changed since I first showed up, but some things stay the same...

Even more? They'd better publish a new 40k Ork codex - or at least give me a few errata to keep my army at least half-way competitive!
Anyway, since Ork conversions are only limited by imagination, I won't run out of stuff to convert in the next time ...

Yep, they're changing their metal models to resin and increasing prices across the board 10-30% (I have a lot of friends who play, so I hear about this stuff a lot).

@Emo, A culinary tour of Spain would probably be downright amazing. That's a country I need to convince my family to go to one of these years.

Yes, Lord of Doom, I remember you. Hard to forget. Been a long time. Still packing the awesome computer?

Pat: I'll have to give it a try sometime.

@Moss: Yay! Global Mod. That's right, we've got some incredible power in our clan.

Funny story that, it's been rehashed/rebuilt about every year and a half, and about halfway through this year, I decided it's time to throw in the towel and get a laptop. Over the last year I've sold most of the computers/parts in the house (or am in the process of selling them) and my brother and I moved over to reasonably portable notebooks (no "gaming" notebooks here, but they've got some power...).

I've had fleeting interests in random stuff since I left MTG- watches, knives, shoes, if it's collectible and useful, I've probably weighed collecting it, but I think there will always be somewhat of a void where Magic used to be. Probably most importantly, there won't really ever be anything to collect for me that has the duality of Magic. It was both an enjoyable social facilitator and an almost liquid asset. I started playing about 11 years ago at age 8, I used to trade bulk commons and uncommons for my friends' desserts at lunch in elementary school. And less than a week ago, after thinking I had already reaping most of the monetary benefits of selling my collection, I found out I still had roughly $1k left to draw from it. I've got time now since it's summer, and I'm working through selling this and other crap that's been laying around for years.

Speaking of "other things" (hey let's give ADHD some space here to kick in!), the most recent thing to pique my interest and draw some of my MTG money influx was an interest in having a fountain pen. I invested in a more reasonably priced one (seriously, there are pens out there for >$10k? oh wait we have paper cards worth that much...) and I've been trying to teach myself how to write better and sketch at least better-than-basic figures. I'll scan some in later.

Other side note- is anyone else in college or past and if so where at? I'm at Franklin & Marshall in Lancaster, PA.

EDIT: I'm also going to chime in on diets. I might get yelled at for this, but multiple members of my family have gone vegan and it has done nothing but amazing things for their health. If you're adequately prepared to plan out and execute a vegan diet, you can make serious changes in weightloss and overall health (i.e. blood statistics, as I would call them, like cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood pressure). Specifically, my dad and my uncle on the other side of my family lost 20 and 50 lbs respectively in a year and my uncle's diabetes has receded. I do know someone who successfully lost 25 lbs on Atkins very quickly, but I have my serious doubts about longterm health safety of it, whereas I have confidence in a no-meat diet. My dad's been on his vegan diet 3 years, my uncle 2, and my friend ditched Atkins after about 6 months. Full disclosure, I love the hell out of meat and I make a killing of Ice Cream, but I've fixed up most of my dietary habits (actually I was underweight by about 15 lbs when I first joined this site, on a diet of almost entirely candy and EZMac) and I do 30 mins of endurance biking a day and rock climb with my little brother (college does wonders to your personal motivation).

EDIT2: Your voice is awesome Kankennon!

A hello from days past, anyone here who remembers me (I wasn't important, was just curious if anyone who used to post when I was here still does).

    Smile

EDIT: I remember Slavan! Long time no speak (although I think I dropped by half-of-a-while ago to say hi too).

@ Zack, Wow, it's like walking down memory lane.... which is three blocks over, for some reason always covered in clouds and the air filled with cheesy music.... I remember drawing like that Smile Technically speaking it shows potential (which as a younger youth I always found annoying but it was still true)

It's not great but I was meaning to post it here for a while granted it is a clan about art. I don't consider myself the best artist around, nor a great artist, nor even a good artist, but even in Art 1 I got exactly what I was hoping for, a basic understanding of techniques, styles, and methods. I'm really glad I took it.

On another school note though, today was the AP World History exam and it was probably the hardest exam I've taken to date. It stomps on the SATs and laughs. (However I cannot discuss it past there granted I signed an agreement saying I wouldn't, thank you college board ^^).
