Bolas is very powerful no doubt but as a planeswalker he comes with a high risk and a high reward. I have a 5 color control deck which i play glittering wish and Bolas in the wishboard. I think it's the perfect spot for him. Fairly hard to see coming. Never a dead card in the hand, and can come out at an optimal time

OBV depends on the deck. I personally dont like top in any of my blue decks. I feel more card draw is better regardless. But for a mono green deck with a lot of mana and limited options, top is a great addition.

  • posted a message on [[Competitive]] Azusa Question
I used to play azusa, and loved every minute of it. If you're going for semi-competitive to competitive I could give you some suggestions.

Crucible of Worlds - Probably obvious Great with strip-mine, wasteland, but also if you add fetches or even just terramorphic and evolving wilds you can guarantee 3 lands a turn even late game.

Chord of calling - Great way to get pretty much any creature in your deck with your amount of mana.

Kozilek and Ulamog - Very powerful and with eye of ugin it is hard not to always have one to play. Even with no card in hand and a mountain of land and eye of ugin you are probably in OK shape.

Storm Cauldron - IMO the most unfair card in azusa. Other decks become crippled while you are only slightly affected.

Oracle of Mul Daya - Great in ANY deck, with azuza and maybe sensei's top you can rip though lands off the top with ease.

What I think You can CUT:

Ant Queen, Rampaging baloths, Omnath, tornado elemental, tracker and vigor.

I have played all of these and they all ended up underperforming. I would imagine you could feel the same way.

I also dont like any ramp SPELL other than cultivate and kodama's reach. in azuza a land in hand is as good as a land in play, and too may ramp spells muddles up the deck. Your general is ALWAYS your #1 ramp spell.

The rest is a matter of feel. You appear to have a token theme going on, doubling season could be good especially with garruk primal hunter.

    Best of Luck

Mental Misstep I used to get criticized for playing it, but the more these one mana tricks pop up the more relevant it is. And always great against turn 1 sol ring.

In EDH my opponent has a gemstone caverns with a luck counter in his Karn deck. If I have a exotic orchard can it tap for anything in my commander's color identity. Thanks in advance

So if you have a Mimeo as a copy of skull briar with 5 counters, if it gets blinked and comes back as something else it should still have counters. It shouldn't have to come in as another skullbriar. Or no??

As for the token, again, its the opponents fault. He didn't call a judge to dispute it, he accepted it. Should the token have appeared? Yes. Should he have argued it, yes.

I think its clear the opponent should have called a judge but to me it sounds like Sam tried to get away with one and succeeded. Players at his level should have a very good idea about the rules so to tell his opponent he does not get the token seems like a cheat.

Obviously this would be hard for a judge to determine, but I can't help but feel he would know how batterskull works and was telling the opponent something he knew to be false for his advantage.

If I put a blaze counter on a player's land in edh then I DIE, does the counter leave with me leaving the game??? Thanks in advance

  • posted a message on [SCD] Rhystic Study
Am I the only one who gets frustrated when nobody but me pays for a players rhystic study and that player easily overpowers the table? Don't get me wrong I love the card and play it in any deck with an island, but its ridiculous when I pay the extra one for my spells and try to convince other players to as well, but everyone has that attitude like, "he can draw w/e I need to play my stuff." 9 times out of 10 that player is just going to overpower the table at least in my experience.

Is anyone else having this problem with king making, or do people just not foresee the dangers of a letting a rhystic study run rampant.

  • posted a message on Overvaluing Tucking (Why Remand is better than Hinder)
1v1? Remand, 4 player pod? Hinder.

It's probably been said several times already but this is correct, of course you can make an argument for both cards, and they are both great for what they cost, however in my opinion you must build your deck to be as versatile as possible.

If you're playing in a metagame where every player is trying to fight over who can "go off" first then tempo is king. However if you are trying to play a realistic game of EDH against fair but powerful generals, Hinder and spell crumple have a better chance of being crippling against certain players. Obviously everyone's area is different and people may just play the same decks over and over, however in my area we do switch things up quite a bit so I always include hinder and spell crumple in my blue decks as a bomb against general-dependant decks and as "just a dissipate" in the worst case matchup.

  • posted a message on Commander Question
I play a Sen Triplets deck, and usually get out celestial dawn to be able to spend white for opponent's spells that aren't of my color, however a card that caught my eye was drain power and I was not sure if this would work.

If I target a mono red player with Sen Triplets, and in the same turn Drain Power them, I would assume I would be able to use their Red mana to cast their spells as I'm not the one producing it. Is this correct???? Thanks in advance.

  • posted a message on Quitting the Game to Prevent Combat Triggers
I would say your triggers would all still happen. People have posted things about sacing a permanent when it becomes targeted, or that when a player leaves the game everything leaves with them. However these examples are not good because a player conceding the game is not an actual action. Of course it is usually an accepted thing to do, however an opponent picking up their cards and leaving is not listed as a "way to win (or lose)" in the comprehensive rules, in the same sense you cannot mindslaver a player and decide to concede.

I would never scoop if I got mana screwed early, or someone jumps on me while im still setting up, thats fair game. The only time I ever scoop is when it is obvious players are conspiring together in a free for all game. Things like Fact or Fiction 5-0 or Trade Secrets to both draw most of their decks. I've been in games where one player just time stretched the guy who was already killing everybody anyway. At those points I figure its not worth my time, pick up my cards and ask them why they bother playing.

  • posted a message on Why Red Sucks
I can agree that red is pretty bad, I do play Godo but he's practically MUD.

Which is why in my red deck I don't feel bad playing Boil, Price of Progress, and Ruination. I justify it with the fact that red in pure garbage and needs every advantage it can get.

  • posted a message on Abyssal Persecutor
So my friends and I got a large EDH game together so we decided to make the game have a range-of-influence 1. Abyssal Persecutor came down and nobody really knew how it worked with the range. We assumed it was too busted for that player to have two indestructible players fighting alongside him so we just assumed it worked for the whole table. Now I was just wondering if played it correctly or if anyone even knows if there is some official ruling on this. Thanks in advance.
